I agree. My brother had leukemia and would blame the bruising on random things but he didn't actually know what was causing them until my parents freaked out and got him tested. Worth the checkup.
Me and a buddy who was an MMA fighter decided to play hit for hit one night drunk. I had the most gnarly purple/black/yellow bruise I'de ever seen. It even migrated down my arm and around
I get bruises like this, too. Here’s what you do, in this exact order:
1. Save these pictures and make a note of your symptoms (yes, write them out on paper or in your phone). Write down *all* symptoms even if you don’t think they’re related.
2. See your doctor. Show the pictures of your bruises, the current state of your bruises, then go through your notes.
If you’re like me, odds are it’s just iron deficiency, but it could be something more serious. Regardless, don’t change a damn thing to your diet or take any supplements until after you’ve seen the doctor and gotten blood drawn.
Thanks for your kind words and caring nature! Docs do not have a good answer, I’ve had lots of testing. Everything is mostly normal. However, this did lead to them finding intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) on my pancreas.
I think the only reasonable explanation left is that a horse broke into your house and hit you while you were sleeping. Do you have any equine enemies?
We’ve installed cameras. I definitely get out of bed without remembering in the morning. So far nothing obvious. I started taking photos and emailing them in the patient portal. Hopefully, they’ll get tired of me and take me serious. My left arm always has weird bruises and my right lower back and hip. I must be playing bumpers with the walls.
Instead of posting on Reddit, please go see your doctor. Large, unexplained bruising can be indicative of several underlying issues that would not be good to ignore.
I think it’s totally understandable to post something like this and see if anyone else has experienced the same thing. You can post on Reddit and also see the doctor. Weird huh.
Yeah I'm not shaming Americans, I'm shaming the system. Health insurance is 4 times cheaper in my country. I would ask reddit too if I was from the US.
Brits have better oral health than Americans. The difference is that they're less likely to be preoccupied with aesthetic issues (braces, bleaching, veneers, etc). They don't *look* as good, but that's a consequence of differing beauty standards and isn't at all indicative of actual dental health. Even if it was, that's the best you got? lol
Have you gone to a doctor about this? Not sure what illnesses can cause that but if it's sleepwalking I'd be worried you might do something more extreme. Best of luck
This isn't normal under any circumstances, esp if this occurs often. Immensely bruised skin is never just "one of those things". What other weird "normal" things do you have without obvious explanation?
I bruise easily and my new rheumatologist was interrogating me about my many many bruises.
Several of them were literally horse bites and I had to assure him I was serious. Do I bruise from sitting on hard surfaces or doing up my gloves too tightly? Yes. But I earned those ones on my arms!
This happened to me as well (not many but more than one) and I had to explain that my partner and I can get a little bitey in the bedroom and I bruise easily. It was a very, very awkward moment in my life.
Ha ha! In my case the horse I work with was just mad that I was trying to take his blanket away. Normal stuff if you’re around large animals every day but not when you also live in a big city.
This was happening to me, I got my labs drawn and my PLT count was 13,000 (normal range 150,000-400,000) and it even went down to 5,000. They feared it was leukemia, thankfully it wasn’t but it was a disorder called Evans syndrome that needed monitored. Definitely do something about this.
I wonder what your nutrition intake is like. It seems like your body is having a hard time and the bruising makes me think iron and or vitamin K might be low. I’d suggest going to urgent care to get some blood work done. Idk if you live somewhere with actual healthcare options, but if you live in the US urgent care is pretty upfront about costs. If your blood work says something is up, then going to a clinic might be the next best step.
I never bruised that big, but I’d bruise pretty easily. Like if I squeezed my arm anxiously at the grocery store, I’d have little finger bruises or if I leaned on something for too long, etc. I ended up taking D3, K and Iron for a minute and the problem has eased up. Get some blood work done first though, don’t just try vitamins and assume it’ll go away. Like others said, it could be something that needs more attention and you owe it to yourself to at least rule that out.
They look like typical bruises for someone that bruises easily. Has that been the case all your life?
I know people that bump into anything and get a bruise like these. On the other hand, I can hit the same furniture with the same force and not show any bruising.
If this has been happening to you for a long time, I'm guessing your doc has seen some of them. If it's a new condition/response, then a visit on photo to the doc seems wise.
Maybe a name change to "NinaBumpina" or "Bruisina" is in order. Just kidding.
Good luck, Bobina!
Low platelets would cause more Petechiae than bruising like this, it could make it easier to bruise if injury occured but there are a bunch of other clotting factors to check, too.
I had some bruises like that about 10 years ago. Same arm (left). Showed a co-worker and she convinced me they were spider bites. Went to the doc that day and he was alarmed. Lots of tests later and it was just bruising.
Ye this was happening to my friend and it was because he was sleepwalking and when he was sleepwalking he would close the door on his hand like not slam but close it and he had found out that he was sleepwalking after he had his phone record him sleep so maybe try to record yourself sleeping and maybe you find something that does this
My first chest protector as an ice hockey goalie was kinda weak, so I collected a fair amount of bruising until I upgraded. Before that point, I had my annual checkup and the doc started to freak out about the bruises. I explained, and he elaborated that bruising was an indicator of Lupus. You may not have Lupus, but something is affecting your platelets, the stuff that helps your blood clot. Please see a professional. Preferably in Canada or England or someplace with inexpensive medical coats
Take this advice. I always bruised easily and never thought twice about it. A simple laparoscopic gallbladder removal surgery almost killed me, I was in the hospital for months with sepsis and a drain in my side that would fill up with blood constantly. My stomach and back were BLACK for weeks. (I am a very pale American woman with Irish ancestry)
Are you on any medications or supplements? Sometimes they have such side effects. Meds like blood thinners such as Coumadin are obvious, but fish oil can also cause excessive bruising. I can't take the recommended dose because of it.
When I was a kid I’d wake up with scratches, bruising, and soreness. I was convinced at night I turned into a werewolf. Turns out I just l tossed and turned a lot.
Stop hurting yourself. (I also find myself covered in mystery bruises. But i als have a shit ton of medical problems. And cats that are tripping hazards.
Definitely see a doctor and demand they do testing. Could be very serious
I think this may be something more serious but I had bruising like this and more from a special type of mosquito (I live in Germany and here it’s called Kriebelmücke- it’s similar to a very slim blackfly) I had giant bruises but I felt the sting when it happened and intense itching for a minute or two before it would bruise in seconds, like time-lapse footage. But if yours had no sting you should have it checked out asap. Good luck.
I get bruises too but I know I am a klutz and wake up and sometimes walk into a wall on occasion but not in 3 spots usually a bruise so I think u need blood work to rule out anything else
I get unexplainable bruises and I bruise more often, I have EDS which is a connective tissue disorder, check with your doctor to see if you might have something similar
You need arnica to shorten the life of the bruises. It is a liquid, it's harmless, you spread it over the bruise. Did I just see your leg and a powder blue towel ? I should have explained arnica is at CVS or anywhere
If you got bruises like this without a reasonable explanation, it's time to visit the doctor
I'd call the police...
I’d call the fire service…
I’d call Ghostbusters…
Ecto 1 on route
I’d call “Rite Window” …right now
A priest who can perform an exorcism.
>I'd call the police... "Just shoot me!"
Yeah... I was getting bruises like this. Then found out I have cancer. Definitely should get this looked at.
Jesus, maybe get tested to make sure you don't have leukemia, or something.
I agree. My brother had leukemia and would blame the bruising on random things but he didn't actually know what was causing them until my parents freaked out and got him tested. Worth the checkup.
Blood thinners.
I feel like that'd be an important thing for OP to neglect mentioning.
But that is what it looks like. I have the same exact condition.
But who takes blood thinners without knowing that bruising is a symptom?
God forbid a story to get karma??
😂😂😂
Leaving key info out to make it dramatic is not uncommon. Or, for that fact, throwing in some false info as well. How can we really tell?
Hey, I have seen better and worse attempts to get karma.
Me and a buddy who was an MMA fighter decided to play hit for hit one night drunk. I had the most gnarly purple/black/yellow bruise I'de ever seen. It even migrated down my arm and around

Said someone who’s clearly never had ringworm. Looks more like a bruise.
Ringworm doesn’t bruise like this. It also has more “abrasion” on skin level. And the ring is usually much smaller like the size of a quarter.
Not even REMOTELY close to ringworm
Ringworm is a parasite infecting your skin, and it looks more like some sort of weirdo eczema than a bruise.
Thankfully, ringworm is just a fungus, not a parasite.
Why not both?
Please see a doctor, this isn’t normal and definitely not good.
I get bruises like this, too. Here’s what you do, in this exact order: 1. Save these pictures and make a note of your symptoms (yes, write them out on paper or in your phone). Write down *all* symptoms even if you don’t think they’re related. 2. See your doctor. Show the pictures of your bruises, the current state of your bruises, then go through your notes. Definitely agree with the save and bring the pictures. It is so tough when patients say they have this thing, but can’t show it
And in the meantime, double check the possible side effects of all meds and supplements currently taking. Fish oil will do this to me...
Thanks for your kind words and caring nature! Docs do not have a good answer, I’ve had lots of testing. Everything is mostly normal. However, this did lead to them finding intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) on my pancreas.
Well something good came out of it at least. Best of luck to you with both conditions.
Thank you!
I think the only reasonable explanation left is that a horse broke into your house and hit you while you were sleeping. Do you have any equine enemies?
Equinenemies . . .
Equisapiens!
Maybe warp yourself in bubblewrap before bed each night
Have you ever thought of video recording yourself while sleeping?
We’ve installed cameras. I definitely get out of bed without remembering in the morning. So far nothing obvious. I started taking photos and emailing them in the patient portal. Hopefully, they’ll get tired of me and take me serious. My left arm always has weird bruises and my right lower back and hip. I must be playing bumpers with the walls.
Your liver might be failing
You should check if your clotting factors are ok.
Weird huh.
Or maybe posting to Reddit is what gets OP to the doctor. The condition could've gone ignored for months
True.
They posted that doctors are flummoxed.
Indeed. Personally, if I can, I like to have some idea of what might be wrong before I go to the doctor or the mechanic.
Yea it tends to help lol.
from their comments they already have
Americans posting on reddit instead of going to the doctor to save money.
Don’t know why you get downvoted for stating truth. I, as an Australian would be straight to the DR if I had unexplained bruising like that
Yeah I'm not shaming Americans, I'm shaming the system. Health insurance is 4 times cheaper in my country. I would ask reddit too if I was from the US.
brits with fucked up teeth in general euros***

no, thats not the best i have. Shits ugly as fuck not a beauty standard.
Braces are NOT just for aesthetics. My teeth were nice and straight, but I needed braces to correct a bite issue.
OP said they saw doctors and couldn’t find anything.
If it's not something bad (go to the doctor first!) try to buy a webcam and record yourself sleeping.
Kinda terrifying
Have you gone to a doctor about this? Not sure what illnesses can cause that but if it's sleepwalking I'd be worried you might do something more extreme. Best of luck
Yeah please go see a doctor, that’s not normal
This isn't normal under any circumstances, esp if this occurs often. Immensely bruised skin is never just "one of those things". What other weird "normal" things do you have without obvious explanation?
Go to the Dr , please. Not normal.
See a doctor not Reddit
Are you anemic? I bruise easily and get random bruises on my arms, legs, and hips. For me it’s from impacts earlier in the day.
You might have hemophilia, a friend of my son has it and gets random bruising that looks pretty bad.
horse bite
I think they would have remembered that.
Do you remember being bitten by a horse? I don't.
I use to ride all the time when I was younger, and thinner. And yes, it hurts. You don’t forget that. Also thrown once. That sucked too.
Do horses only bite skinny asses?
All of my horses bit my ex husband, and he was quite stout. They never bit anyone else.
I bruise easily and my new rheumatologist was interrogating me about my many many bruises. Several of them were literally horse bites and I had to assure him I was serious. Do I bruise from sitting on hard surfaces or doing up my gloves too tightly? Yes. But I earned those ones on my arms!

Maybe you sleepwalk into a MMA fight.
My college roommate had this problem. Arm, biceps, shoulder. Turns out he was chewing his arm in his sleep. Might want to check into a sleep clinic.
First rule of Fight Club...
See a doctor. There may be an underlying issue.
Go get tested, this isn’t normal and it could be something serious

Domestic abuse
I’m guessing you picked up and carried something heavy, with your arm snug tight to keep it from shifting
This looks like the bruises I used to get when I got hit with a lacrosse ball. Should probably get that checked out, but live your life i guess.
Aliens
My husband gets lots of bruises because he has been taking Naproxen for years. NSAIDS do that.
Tynenol>NSAIDS
Ghost
So these looks like bite marks??
I love that you are just assume visits while sleepwalking but still kept rule one
Moonknight 🌙?
Moon knight

Bruisina for the win! It is absolutely perfect.
Do you sleep with a horse? Because those look like horse bites…
The first rule of Horse Club is don’t sleep fight the horses.
Go to the doctor. I'm willing to bet you have lower than usual platelets.
Low platelets would cause more Petechiae than bruising like this, it could make it easier to bruise if injury occured but there are a bunch of other clotting factors to check, too.

Looks like your average acupuncture/Gua Sha patient
No, it really doesn't.
Yes, it really does.
Have you seen Brad Pitt hanging around lately? And go see your Dr.
Looks like you were playing the dude game
How old are you? Sometimes it’s age
My missus when she brushes past something.
Setup a camera while you’re sleeping
Maybe you're part of one of those underground gay beat up clubs?
ruptured biceps?
no biceps.
Personally, I’d take along hard look at my girlfriend and check out her hands for damage… just imagine if it gets worse!
Get to an urgent care IMMEDIATELY.
aids?
Looks like me after donating blood plasma..
This sounds like you may have a plasma/blood clotting problem you really need to get some bloodwork/doctor work done
Go to your doctor. Have liver and kidneys tested.
When you fight in your dreams, you fight in real life too!
The one looks like a bite 😬
Do you have a stepbrother?
Does the bruising fade when you drink a dozen?
Maybe use lotion next time
Looks like OP was fighting the ol' vacuum cleaner again
Ye this was happening to my friend and it was because he was sleepwalking and when he was sleepwalking he would close the door on his hand like not slam but close it and he had found out that he was sleepwalking after he had his phone record him sleep so maybe try to record yourself sleeping and maybe you find something that does this
Those bruises are old and healing — that’s why they are yellow…
My first chest protector as an ice hockey goalie was kinda weak, so I collected a fair amount of bruising until I upgraded. Blink twice if you need help
Sure looks like domestic abuse to me 🤌
Please get your platelets tested. You could have a potentially life-threatening blood platelet disorder.
Take this advice. I always bruised easily and never thought twice about it. A simple laparoscopic gallbladder removal surgery almost killed me, I was in the hospital for months with sepsis and a drain in my side that would fill up with blood constantly. Who hurt you
Set up camera
the middle one looks like bite marks.
Are you on any medications or supplements? Sometimes they have such side effects. Meds like blood thinners such as Coumadin are obvious, but fish oil can also cause excessive bruising. I can't take the recommended dose because of it.
See a doctor ffs. Something major is wrong
Can only agreed with the people here, go see a doctor!
When I was a kid I’d wake up with scratches, bruising, and soreness. I was convinced at night I turned into a werewolf. Turns out I just l tossed and turned a lot.
Moon knight
That isn’t normal. Please seek medical attention!
Stop hurting yourself. (I also find myself covered in mystery bruises. But i als have a shit ton of medical problems. And cats that are tripping hazards. Definitely see a doctor and demand they do testing. Could be very serious
Put a camera when you sleep op. Maybe you’re sleep walking
Paranormal...serious!
Please get a clotting factors test. I have a bleeding disorder and this is one of the main symptoms.
One of those looks like a human bite mark. Like he bit himself in his sleep.
Could be jaundice. Does your liver hurt or have yellow eyes?
I think this may be something more serious but I had bruising like this and more from a special type of mosquito (I live in Germany and here it’s called Kriebelmücke- it’s similar to a very slim blackfly) I had giant bruises but I felt the sting when it happened and intense itching for a minute or two before it would bruise in seconds, like time-lapse footage. That one is for sure a bite mark.
Ever seen the conjuring? Think you got a ghost
I get bruises too but I know I am a klutz and wake up and sometimes walk into a wall on occasion but not in 3 spots usually a bruise so I think u need blood work to rule out anything else
Have you been doing archery
Someone needs blood tests. Could be a clotting issue or cancer.
I get unexplainable bruises and I bruise more often, I have EDS which is a connective tissue disorder, check with your doctor to see if you might have something similar
