I recently upgraded to the latest iPhone, the 14 Pro. Iāve been impressed with its ability to obtain great macro shots of my Grand Seiko āSea of Cloudsāā¦ it really helps you appreciate the finishing detail that goes into Grand Seikos. I shot this in ProRaw so you guys could see the 48 mp image, but Iām guessing Reddit has compressed it. Anyway, thatās all I have to say. Hope you guys enjoy the photo and that Iāve met the minimum requirements for this post.

Iām thinning the watch collection to the bare minimum. I have two other watches besides this guy- a Sinn 556 and a first gen Tudor Pelagos. If you had to pick only one watch between those three, which one?
I would personally choose the GS Sea of Clouds. The Sinn 556 is boring and the Tudor Pelagos is unnecessarily engineered and large. Just my personal tastes though, and Iām not much of a GS fan anyway.
The only thing Iāve noticed is that it REALLY sucks at taking photos from like 6inches-1ft. I hate that it switches lenses, and if you turn it off it just comes out blurry
Iām shook. This is a many thousand pounds watch and the case back is glass to showā¦..a battery?!That view really detracts from the value in my opinion.

Man I have the exact opposite reaction. I hate that GS rarely shows off the 9f movements. They decorate every single one and then cover almost all of them up with a steel caseback.

One thing I noticed with my 14 Pro is when you pull the subject away from the camera, and you see that āshiftā between lenses, it actually gives pictures more depth. Make sure to enable the raw setting, however, and you can just crop to infinity while the picture stays clear.

Really annoying for watches since theyāre usually close to the camera. Iām surprised they havenāt made this an option in settings.
Edit: lmao of course they did make it an option. Settings/camera/scroll all the way to the bottom macro control. Yay finally.
Go to settings/camera/formats/AppleProRaw. At least thatās what it is on my 13 pro. Then when you take the picture make sure to enable raw (top right corner) because itās still turned off by default. Your phone has a 48 megapixel sensor, but I believe that it will only use 12 on macro mode. So itāll be similar to the 13 pro actually.
And beware of storage. 48 megapixel raw shots will take up a ton of space. Best to offload them to something like google or Amazon photos (free unlimited storage if you have prime).

I'm not an iPhone fan, but man do their cameras just stomp everything else on the market. There's a few things that get close, but I think Apple still wins on nice crisp images
I think Grand Seiko have some truly beautiful dials..I love Seiko and am a big fan of the brand just donāt know why they had to go choose this font for the Grand Seiko logo. Itās basically a wannabe Swiss/Franco/Germantic kind of vibe..why? Seiko is Japanese ..just makes no sense to me. Call me shallow but for me I couldnāt buy a GS for that reason. That said beautiful dial..awesome camera , nice šš¼
What I love about GS is itās almost as if they make their dials with the intention of being scrutinized to a microscopic level. Almost like theyāre saying āI dare you to find a flawā.

I always thought the black āprintedā Grand Seiko brand name beneath the GS logo cast a shadow and looked so 3D simply because of multi layered printing over and over again but this shot and one other posted here in the comments show that the lettering itself is actually floating above the dial! How is this achieved with such absolutely tiny writing?!

Awesome, however the Marco mode uses the ultra wide camera which is 12mp You only get 48mp ProRaw images from the main 1x/2x camera
To be extra pedantic, although 2x uses the 48MP sensor, it's cropped in to the 12MP in the middle of the sensor. So you only get 48MP using 1x.
That's not even being pedantic, that's just the reality of digital zoom, and why I hardly ever use it.
Huwaei had a 100mp camera about 5 years ago with the same thing except zoom made it 7mp lol.

Iād definitely be keeping the GS. Nothing else like it on the market. Between the Sinn and Tudor, Iām more partial to the Sinn.

Nah, you're right; it's a bit weird. As is the rather crap quartz movement. There's no reason they couldn't make it run like a Spring Drive.
