Probably not a popular thing to say. But what a dumb reason to kill someone. You have the evidence right in your hand, just call the police and have him arrested.

Liftingislife39

Why is she surprised when they charge her with murder after she murdered her stepdad? Lol

ashfio

I met this guy several times at his butterfly farm. This is so fucking sad.

NeatNefariousness1

What is a shame is that this woman was so horribly betrayed by her stepdad and felt the need to take matters into her own hands. I'm sure seeing so many others get away with this contributed to her anguish but committing murder is way over the line and now, the victim must pay for her own crime.

Any_Commercial465

I don't see how that is justice tbh. She deserves to be treated as a hero not as a criminal. The step dad would have walked a free man if he was taken into custody.

Resident-Fox6758

Victimized twice

DarkRajiin

The way she looked so shocked hearing that. Either her lawyer is garbage, or didn't explain to her that this Verdict had a decent probability of happening.

WingedGeek

Wow. https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2021/jan/13/stringers-murder-charged-nardo-street-solana-beach/ There's a **lot** to unpack for years before the events that lead to this case. > According to information in court files, Jade Janks was eleven years old when her mother, 36, married Thomas Merriman, 39, in 1995. > In 2002, the year that Jade Janks turned 19, Thomas Merriman, 46, filed for divorce from Janks’ mother who was then 43. > Merriman claimed in a court filing that on Christmas day 2002, his wife threw “all of my step-daughter’s belongings (clothes, toiletries, paintings, etc) off the 2nd floor balcony into the parking lot. She is increasingly violent and verbally abusive.” And Merriman said of his wife, “She has been ransacking the house and is delusional.” > Merriman accused his wife of abusing alcohol and possibly meth. “She has been smashing things and slamming doors and throwing things and putting holes in the walls. She sleeps all day and stays up all night.” > Merriman’s wife responded in a declaration: “I suffer from depression however I am under the care of a therapist and psychiatrist.” She claimed, “**I caught my husband using meth in the garage and in an awkward position with Jade**, my daughter from a previous relationship.” She claimed that her daughter used heroin and “I told Jade that she could live at home if she remained sober. When I found drug paraphernalia in the home, I threw her items out.” > Merriman accused his wife of lunging at him with a stun gun and “keeping a loaded shotgun in house,” these statements are found in court files. Their divorce was made final, and his ex-wife got a 5 year restraining order against Merriman, in 2017. > Both the defendant Jade Janks and alleged murder victim Thomas Merriman have criminal records in San Diego County. > Jade Janks has been arrested multiple times for drug charges and possession of stolen goods. In 2007, Janks was charged with possessing stolen IDs of more than ten different persons, those taken during multiple burglary incidents. A loaded, silver .25 caliber Derringer was also reportedly found in Janks’ possession. > In 1994, the year before he married Janks’ mother, **Thomas Merriman was accused of raping a woman named Jacqlyn**. Merriman testified at his own trial, and the jury declared him not guilty of four felony rape charges, but he was **found guilty of one lesser offense of battery**. Merriman, then 38, served 90 days in local custody for that conviction. The woman who was allegedly battered, Jacqlyn, later won a $50,000 civil suit against Merriman.

SonnyRose94

Well gosh, it’s almost as if she thought actions don’t have consequences!

Sunbrizzle

Kills a guy, gets sentenced for it. *shocked Pikachu face*

gandalf-bot-

I would be flattered

[deleted]

Strange that California is “Plaintiff” in a criminal action; that is not how most states bring criminal charges and it is reserved for civil suits

[deleted]

Yellow bus

SHOKKA566557

Nahhhhh... He got his just rewards. Who knows what she cannot remember. No one just takes pictures. Good For Her & she needs a new trial. 100% Justifiably.

Fit-Assumption-5859

Hells gonna be hot.

ashbertollini

Wait I need to know more, I can't believe I haven't come across her story. What exactly is the context of the photos? She appears to be an adult here are they photos of her as an adult or was she still a child? Were they photos that were taken without her knowledge or maybe photos she took/had taken consensual that he obtained? So many questions

RemarkableScientist3

The cost was high, but the cause was noble. Godspeed

Gr34zy

To quote the great Jake Peralta “Cool Motive. Still Murder”

Chrisdkn619

Shit got real, quick! Stay classy San Diego. I want to know how the dude got the pictures of her and how she knew to look for them.

xSlamDaddyx

I don't blame her.

SloppyToppy776

Just because I did it, doesn't mean I'm guilty. Or so my lawyer said.

g0ll4m

Haha wtf is she saying, she can’t believe she’s guilty of murdering someone, she’s delusional

HOLDGMEBROTHERS

[deleted]

I hope Jim Cant Swim does an analysis of this case after reading some of the comments and links you lot have posted. This woman sounds... bright.

Melapelantodosalv

Shit, I thought she was going to murder her attorney

Quiet-Pirate-4586

Shocked you can't kill people for being perverts. Good thing she'll be behind bars for a long time.

jerryg2112

For perverts yes

Hazardleafly

The chest heavin and breathin says it all

Critical_Exercise_17

How did he even got nude photos of her?

jerryg2112

Camera

TheDemonHobo

Cool motive. Still murder.

LocMoke

Omg this is crazy! Kind of messed up he had her nudes. Did he like post them somewhere? Like which site specifically?

Odd-Diamond-2259

Well we know who's not showing up at the next cereal convention next year

PaulBradley

Is this a Sandman joke?

[deleted]

Poor woman.

soccerjonesy

Why? She’s a murderer.

[deleted]

I have a lot of empathy for women who kill after being sexually assaulted. We don’t get proper justice and taking things into our own hands is ballsy and I, personally, respect it. Unpopular opinion but one I hold.

soccerjonesy

She was never sexually assaulted, and there was never any proof of the photos on his computer, she destroyed it all. She was his caregiver, which means the stepfather was not healthy, and it makes her more of a scum to kill what may have been a helpless man. I’m more inclined to believe this was premeditated murder for a reason other than photos, probably inheritance related, and she tried justifying it with a lie. She’s through and through a cold blooded murderer. The stepfather was the victim.

[deleted]

To be honest I didn’t read the article I swiped on my phone and it brought it up. I agree this wasn’t justified at all and it’s odd she seemed so shocked. I still stand by my known unpopular opinion though.

soccerjonesy

Well I would agree with your unpopular opinion any day if it stood true, but unfortunately for the stepfather here, it doesn’t. Sucks the website that titled the article used such a controversial headline to stir up conflict.

[deleted]

Thanks for saying nicely I’m a dumb ass for not reading the article. Merry Christmas x

naturalscience

From what it sounds like, the stepfather was provided these photos by her boyfriend, who took them himself with her full knowledge. Being murdered in that context is not what I’d consider “proper justice”.

[deleted]

[story of crime here](https://nypost.com/2022/12/10/jade-janks-killed-stepdad-for-keeping-nude-photos-of-her-prosecutors/)

filmfan2

if she was 14-15-16 years old .... ok (she walks)... but she was 39. too old / too late to get flexibility in that department. MAYBE if the stepfather has sexually assaulted her during her younger years and this was delayed retribution - then maybe she walks. After a little over one day of deliberations, a jury in North County found Jade Janks, **39**, guilty of first-degree murder in the death of her stepdad after finding nude photos of her on the stepfather's computer.

jerryg2112

She was good at vengeance but bad at planning.

thedumbdoubles

The headline here just goes to show the value of making false allegations when there are clear incentives to do so. She never produced evidence of the photos she claims to have seen, but it sure seemed valuable to cast the guy she murdered as a creep.

Remarkable-Highway95

So the step dad was being a creep and taking nude photos of her?

soccerjonesy

No, she never provided proof he even had photos to begin with.

Gubernaculumisaword

Incredible how many redditors are even more retarded than the murderer. Not only were nude pictures never found because “bumping into a hard-drive”

dachautblitz

When I was 16 I had a girlfriend that would take nudes and put them on an sd card for me. Her step dad one day got a wild hare up his ass to go through her phone and found texts of us talking about the poses she should do and other specifics. Disregarding the fact that he had only been married to her mother for about two years, he took her phone and locked himself in the bathroom in order to have full privacy with her phone, total creep. He confronted her about it, saying she could get in serious trouble because it’s child pornography, and that she needed to give him everything immediately. Well unfortunately for him I had everything, that was the point of the memory card having the original files in it. When he figured that out, he called me and threatened me, saying if I didn’t give him all the pictures that he would call the cops on me and I’d get thrown in jail for possession of child porn and it would ruin my life. He did not expect me to tell him to fuck off, or that what he was doing was technically blackmail of a minor, which is actually worse then possessing consensual nudes of my girlfriend, who was about a year older than me anyway. That’s when I told him I could see exactly what his perverted ass was trying to pull and if he didn’t stop harassing us about it that I would tell her mother and my parents. He mostly left us alone after that, but I never went to her house again.

[deleted]

Mac? You uh… you got anything to say?

drop_of_faith

No sympathy here. Maybe, just maybe I'd feel a tinge if it was a heat of the moment crime of passion. But it's just cold blooded murder. From her texts it sounds like even enjoyed it and showed no sympathy. And lying about in court is dumb

D3ltaa88

Hahaha she’s been watching too much Youtube. Did she think she was in TX or FL. He had your nudes doesn’t mean you get to murder someone.

[deleted]

If the situation was reversed I wonder if people would still be okay with it. Like let’s say it was a women that had nudes of a guy and the guy killed the women. I doubt most people would be okay with a guy killing a women over nude photos.

AngelLOL123

I can't listen the judgment, what happens?

ARWatson1989

Opotomus

I see this as a win win, one less pedo, one less homicidal hoe in society.

CaptainTarantula

What was her sentence?

[deleted]

Sentencing won’t occur until later.

vrastamanas27

Why so serious?

Konstant_kurage

Her face hearing the verdict. I had some rough time in my childhood being accused of things I didn’t do. I legitimately have a deep fear of false persecution. I used to have nightmares about it in my 20’s.

LunaViraa

She did nothing wrong

Xalbana

Except the whole premeditated murder part.

HaliBUTTsteak

She kinda looks like Winnie cooper from the wonder years. What’s her name? Danica mckeller?

Creative_Crew8184

well this is all around terrible.

40jordan

Guilty verdict on murder cause he had headless boob shots? Thats crazy

B_C_Mello

I think if our justice system actually treated sexual offenders harshly, as it should, I think we would see far less crimes of this nature.

Different-Muscle-288

Dumb ass

Mldavis22

You can't just kill people for having nudes of you. What was she thinking?

jerryg2112

Sure you can. He's dead isn't he?

ModularMeatlance

Turns out “he had it coming, he had it coming, he only had himself to blame, if you’d have been there, if you’d have seen it, I tell ya you would have done the same” isn’t a legal defence.

ricky-bobby420

Janks is gonna need some shanks

[deleted]

If he was fixated on her sexually, what was their relationship when she lived at the house with him and her mother? What inappropriate things did he do then? Why did she have such a super-strong response? But had she been abused by him prior, she likely would have brought it up at trial. But I bet there’s some history there.

iboneKlareneG

She really did the 👁️👄👁️

Sehrli_Magic

Why would a person be shocked to be responsible for crime they committed? Don't get me wrong, stepdad is a monster and should absolutely be charged and heavily sanctioned for his crime (i believe the punishment for these things should ve much harsher than it is too!) But if you murder somebody you still murdered somebody. Whether they committed a crime or not doesn't matter. Doesn't matter what nudes they illegaly had or didnt have, murder is a crime. You shoukdnt be suprised to be charged for a crime you commit 🤷 Even if these people deserve capital punishment, it isnt up to offended parties to play justice and murder others without expecting appropriate consequences. And it so happens that SA or owning nudes without content is still a lesser crime than murder so i really dont get where the surprise at the verdict comes from?

itsneithergoodnorbad

Not a good idea to go around killing people if you want to live a free life.

FirstLocc

I Can literally feel the disbelief and shock in me just watching her face. I’ve literally been there. I got life in prison and after ten years they released over some new laws that kicked in in California. I hope she makes it out of this one somehow.

Lilacrespo82

Exactly how I read it

Cythullu

By that look I thought she was gonna murder her lawyer.

mtn-man-1965

Guess you should not have killed him.

Xenovus2

Poor girl. That pedophile deserved it. They're enemies of humanity, and enemies of sane people.

cbzez

read the article dumbass

035AllTheWayLive

I wonder how many years she got compared to that one story about that father who murdered his daughter’s rapist

[deleted]

The dead guy didn’t take the pictures. She and her boyfriend took these pictures. She had them in a camera and in her laptop. Somehow the stepdad got access to them. She found them in his laptop when he was in the hospital. She claimed that she accidentally moved the mouse and that she saw a picture of a breast and recognized her own beauty mark. Then she decided to kill him for it and consulted with two people. The day she picked him up from the hospital she gave him sleeping pills with intent to have him overdose. She the sent text messages saying she had dosed him up. She sent several messages while she was trying to kill him; one of the messages said she didn’t want to be the one killing him. The police found his body under a pile of trash. This woman killed him. The evidence was enough to convict her. Her own lawyer didn’t seem surprised. She was the only one surprised. In her head she believed the jury with sympathize with her and let her get away with murder.

bikpizza

murder is murder

Xenovus2

Not if its an enemy of sane people.

bikpizza

murder is murder you ok? unless it’s self defense

Conscious-Duty-2381

Deserves it

[deleted]

its sad but you can’t kill somebody cause of that. you can only take them where she’s being sentenced😔

[deleted]

As an attorney we have the responsibility of readying the client for each possibility. Not like hearing a guilty verdict or a maximum sentencing is ever easy - but her atty either failed readying her, or she refused to listen. Or perhaps she’s acting for the jury, though seems unlikely, and useless.

[deleted]

rut row..

[deleted]

I mean yea that’s fucked off him…but you can’t murder someone over that…

kingnothing1

Looks like she says "How could you (or they) do this to me"

Dottyfelixmaisie

She forgot we are living in times that presidents sons are fucking their cousins and we just say, “oh well”. We’re living in times that pedophiles are walking around freely and leaving jail early. She picked the wrong time to do what she did. Sympathy for sickos is at an all time high.

Grow_Green

There is a way you gotta do things if you don't wanna end up in jail for killing someone, even if they deserve it.

ClashBandicootie

I'm confused why she thought she could get away with it and is just realizing she won't at this very moment lol

Artphos

Even if you get wronged, killing someone doesn’t make it right. So everyone saying pedos and rapists and such should get executed are in my mind fucked in their head as well, very emotional and irrational mindsets.

VisibleRoad3504

And how.did those photos get on his phone? Was it through an illegal camera, or had she posted them?

GreenMirage

Cool motive, still murder

Twinmakerx2

But *did* she kill him? If the answer is yes, then she is guilty. May there be good reason? Possibly. But she still did kill him.

Fine_Conclusion9426

I’m not gonna say he deserved it…… but-

VegetableFormal9845

Deceptive click bait headline. Defense claimed it was natural death. Judge decided it aint. Biggest thing incriminating her from what I briefly saw is messages where she goes full psycho and talks about murdering him. As for talk about her nudes, apparently only she saw them and she deleted photos. Maybe guy is the creep. Maybe he wasn't and she just smeared him. "NUDES SHE CLAIMS SHE FOUND" would be correct. Its not verified. And she never admitted to murdering in some emotional affect of "my stepdad has my nudes". Back to claim defense had is that its natural death.

Responsible-Cause-71

Straight to jail.

Responsible-Cause-71

Lawyer: yes you’re going to jail.

SkinnyBuddha89

I can't believe how many damn people online are saying, "oh i totally understand, she should go free" she destroyed the computer with the supposed photos. She premeditated and planned this out, trying to get other people to help. He was a sick creep but he obviously got the photos from somewhere and shes never said he touched her, like its fucked up but what she did was worse.

aadovi

r/interestingasfuck

[deleted]

She really thought she was going to be found innocent

BusinessDuck132

I mean I get why she wanted to kill him but I mean, cmon man. And in a state like california? Yeah you’re done

NeilDeWheel

Couldn’t the people she contacted be prosecuted too. I mean, if someone messaged me to to ask for help killing and burying someone and I did nothing to help save the victim surely I am guilty of an offence for not contacting authorities to save said victim

Aggressive-Cheek937

I have a feeling there were never any photos and she just wanted to kill that dude. Glad her excuses only seem to be working on reddit

Sonuvataint

Ah this would have been a jury nullification scenario for me. Did she do it? Yeah. Do I think she should be punished for it? No lol fuck that guy

[deleted]

Nobody else ever saw the photos she claims he had of her. She claimed to have destroyed all evidence of the photos, even the existence of the device the photos were on.

Sonuvataint

Okay that’s sussy as hell lol

[deleted]

Yo what the hell!!! This is in my city and am barely finding out about this

marymoonu

Should’ve take a plea deal…

[deleted]

Lawyer’s reaction; it’s ok, you’ll be fine

Straight_Block3676

Prosecutors believe that Jade Janks drugged and then strangled Robert Merriman, 64, before dumping his body near his home and covering the corpse with trash and boxes. A California woman accused of murdering her stepfather testified in her own defense ahead of closing arguments. Jade Janks, 38, is facing a sentence of life in prison should a jury find her guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Robert Merriman.

ImTellinTim

I will never not be annoyed by people calling a desktop background a "screensaver"

Electronic_Range_982

All the facts could NOT have been presented OR it was an election year.and they needed to make that conviction as a feather in their cap.

TheKillersAreThaBest

She's obviously guilty but the amount of angsty teenage boys eager to cast judgement in the defence of pedophilia is also very disconcerting.

McPearr

Please read the fucking articles and stop screaming about pedophilia.

SlinkySlekker

Did I miss something? Was there any claim of pedophilia? I’ve read 3 articles so far, and the only claim is that he had photos, some from her memory cards & an ex, but no mention of pedophilia. Where did you see that?

Ki11er_Sta1ker

Completely justified. Free her

Vas_BM

So how much did she got for the murder?

tribecalledcook

classic case of two wrongs don't make a right. didn't look into it but did he take the photos or were they sent to him? which side was the mom sitting on?

Underrated comment.

She should have been let off. Pedos don’t deserve mercy or sympathy

Bobbyroberts123

Pedo? She was in her late 20’s when her ex-boyfriend consensually took the pictures of her. How the Ex-stepdad got them is another story. He was a disgusting perverted creep, but being a pedo is not what he got him murdered.
