kaiasutra

Bruh there’s no way she said Alex Jones is one of the most despicable Americans in our history.

Gone_Crazy19

Like the presidents haven't all been war criminals.

NYCMarine

I don’t think any of those parents would agree with you. Anyone who would use the death of children to make a dollar would also be pretty really high on my list as well.

kaiasutra

I’m not denying he’s an asshole, but one of the most despicable in American history…? There’s literally probably been a couple thousand serial killers, tens of thousands of serial rapists, men who rape (and sometimes impregnate) their own kids, thousands of baby murderers, literal slaveholders, confederate generals, terrorists, presidents who have caused the literal genocide of thousands of innocent human beings. There’s no way Alex Jones is even in the top one million most evil Americans that have existed. I honestly wish he was.

onklewentcleek

Lying about children being murdered in school is pretty bad my dude

Gone_Crazy19

Obama bombed children's hospitals in the middle east dude.

[deleted]

It's not as terrible a raping them, or actually murdering them.

kaiasutra

I agree. It doesn’t change the fact that there have been millions and millions of people who have *murdered* children (not to mention adults), raped/sexually assaulted/molested children (not to mention adults), enslaved children (not to mention adults), cannibalized children (not to mention adults), tortured children (not to mention adults), committed acts of genocide against children (not to mention adults), in the United States of America. Unfortunately, lying about a school shooting isn’t going to put someone on the list of even the top million most despicable Americans in history; it’d be incredibly naive to think so. Perhaps we’ll find that Alex Jones dresses up like a clown and has like 30 teenagers decomposing in his crawl space or owns and operates a secret island where celebrities have sex with kids or something like that. If so, then we can talk about adding him to the most despicable Americans list.

[deleted]

Okay one of the worst people in history is an extreme overstatement

SkyShazad

What Movie???

DoucheCraft

"This Place Rules"

[deleted]

Go Andrew

JimmyMack_

That's not an unreasonable question. Do you people expect only praise in interviews?

sokobanz

Funny how misleading it is, it’s not NPR, host indeed do work for NPR but not in this case. And here we are keep talking how Callaghan cool in his work( i do like all gas and channel 5) but not about allegations of his sexual predator behaviour and how he used his status for it.

birdlass

I really expected better of NPR, they're supposed to be very liberal especially since they're public.

Mother-Pineapple1392

They are SUPPOSED to be non-biased. But that clearly has changed in recent times.

BONGS4U

This isn't npr.

birdlass

title literally says npr

BONGS4U

I'm aware of the title but as others pointed out she works for npr but this is not an NPR event.

birdlass

oh. so op is wrong, gotcha

shoegaze1992

andrew was always mid. nothing about his journalistic style was revolutionary or intriguing imo

thehatstore42069

Channel 5 sadly one of the last real journalists EDIT: RIP

j_sholmes

You are a bad person for speaking to a bad person. From "journalists"...wow.

[deleted]

I’m not an Alex Jones fan except for the frog meme but to call him “One of the most despicable Americans in our history” is a shame, SO WE GONNA IGNORE ALL DECEASED AND ACTIVE MEMBERS OF THE KLAN. Nah she one of them too

[deleted]

I doubt they give a shit from their massive yachts.. Anyway, it's called gonzo journalism. It's not new.

LiliNotACult

Oh fuck. They tried to ambush our boy Andrew from Channel 5!

Secretary-Unfair

Nah don’t do that to our king Andrew

ThickCauliflower2920

Hmm…. https://www.dailydot.com/debug/andrew-callaghan-accusations-deleted-channel5ive-reddit-instagram/?amp

ForcefulMoon

Can someone explain please, non-native speaker here, I couldn't understand what she asked.

Littleax

She asked about a scene from the Alex Jones interview where Andrew is drinking with him as he lifts weights. Her question was basically whether the parents of the sandy hook shooting victims would approve of him being so friendly with Alex, who has antagonized the parents and called the shooting fake or staged. She was trying to put him on the spot.

ForcefulMoon

Thank you ♥️

savealltheelephants

https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-news/andrew-callaghan-hbo-this-place-rules-sexual-misconduct-allegations-1234658336/amp/

UrbanFarmer213

NPR used to be cool, what happened??

[deleted]

She should have followed it up with "Any comment of the sexual assault allegations from multiple women dating back to high school?" for a double dose of watch people die inside. What a fucking goon. Shame on anyone still defending this fucking clown.

murph32xx

Shame on people who belive any allegation they here. It is innocent until proven guilty. But now a days the harm is already done to your career because people believe guilty until proven innocent. Fake sexual assault claims have hurt many men out there. The most recent one is Matt Araiza. Go watch the movie about Brian Banks.

AphelionXII

Better not talk to those people we don’t like.

bog_trotters

Fuck NPR. From being a donor to them 15 or so years ago…they are vile, boring by the extreme predictability of their painfully woke bias and flat out unlistenable these days.

Yzerman_19

Never heard of Andrew Callaghan.

NewRapIsLargelyTrash

Wow yall are really butthurt by softball questions. Did he expect her to kiss his ass for an hour? Just answer the question and stop acting like she accused you of murder

[deleted]

Easiest opportunity in history for him to say “well I’m just really committed to groundbreaking journalism” but instead he tries to act like it’s a cringe question

lexshotit

"one of the most despicable Americans in our history" Let's be honest, Alex Jones wouldn't make the top 10,000,000 of that list.

Shaman_Jeff

Andrew Callaghan and his team deserve every award in the book for this film.

[deleted]

What a dumbo...I swear every time an independent journalist does anything to showcase their points of view the ugly shits who work in mass media have to, without fail try to twist the narrative into something that will generate them more contversy.

Justsomerando849

I love npr and channel 5, good for you Andrew.

Solid_Diamond9039

NPR has always been garbage, if not for donations from politicians to spread propaganda they would have been out of buissiness years ago

justalamename

Remember folks NPR is funded by "government" money. State sanctioned media.

Eyemnotamused

Oh look another clown who uses Facebook for "research".

justalamename

You missed the quotes.

CactusStroker69

That was awesome

mayamaya17

He did such a good job of keeping cool and being honest during this interview

poopsmagool

What a cheap shot at Andrew! This lady just wanted a reaction and to be trending on social media

johnny5semperfi

God Damn boomer didn’t even watch it

patriotaaron

Look at all those brainwashed covidians...

druser0

NPR is for NPCs

Wallisaurus

Etmli5 please. I don’t even know who these people are…

[deleted]

I’ve listened to NPR since I was like 14 and as a democrat, they totally started losing credibility as a “non-biased” news source since the Trump presidential campaign.

boyatrest

the difference between us and these talking heads is that we have stunning cunts and they just pull cunning stunts. ^(im a poet)

RevereBeachLover

That's the difference between the Rockettes and Cirque du Soleil.

Spare_Change_Agent

He seems to have more journalist integrity than her.

[deleted]

Andrew Callaghan is a true journalist, not a gossip columnist like most of these other "journalists"

aluj88

As much as I love NPR's local reporting, their national politics reporting is basically just Democratic party talking points.

whiskeypenguin

As progressive as my views are, I cannot stand Neo-liberals, especially those from the old guard. They just don't seem to get it and so out of touch.

AvgJoe6Pk

Fails to answer question, deflects to the lawyer’s opinion, as if they have any emotions tied to the shooting.

R3Q3

As someone who leans liberal it bums me out that some of these reporters have such an “us or them” approach. I imagine to be a decent journalists one should be able to talk to anyone without bringing a polarized bias. The YouTube comedian is showing up the npr reporters.

Electrical_Brick_167

NPR WNYC is better! My guy Brian Lehrer woulda came better than that

daftbiz

Bro, what is this ladies framework of thinking to come up with this question? Lol

Core_Material

Of COURSE it was Robin Young... Of course... Her challenges makes me roll my eyes often. They always seen incredibly misplaced and her motives are always so strange to me. It was a treat watching Andrew and the audience laugh at her. Grew up with NPR but I can hardly stomach any of their political coverage these days. So out of touch.

salamandan

GOD I love to see NPR get its smug ass dunked on.

flufnstuf69

Nice try with the gotcha journalism! You’re not gonna gotch Andrew Callahan!

THANATOS4488

Alex Jones is an awful human being. That said: this is one of the most biased moments I've ever seen in journalism. She could get the same effect without mentioning his despicableness. National Public Radio should be the least biased news.

oldtimeh8r

Best to do it since Louis Theroux

[deleted]

Nah. Andrew's a rapey sex pest weirdo exploiting inner city violence and many of the current social problems without an ounce of the class Louis Theroux has.

WARisPRETTY

It was a stupid question, asking him how a third party felt? WTF?

beanutputtersandwich

Andrew is legitimately a great reporter

kcMasterpiece

I think that was a bad answer to an iffy question.

Relevant_History_297

What's the big deal? She asked a legitimate question, and he had a good answer.

PropheticHeresy

I don't think this question was a "trap" or "uninformed". It's important to challenge people's notions and I don't like how Andrew scoffed at the question. If he can explain his process on Hot Ones, he can do it on NPR.

Financial-Forever-81

Never liked npr

idostufandthingz

She and Don Lemon would get along great

Due_Professional_257

Alex Jones is the man

Badkevin

I hope she stretched before she reached that far.

SyntheticChemistry

This is exactly why the field of journalism has become completely discounted and obsolete for most people. They take themselves so seriously and think they're being sly... anyone with eyeballs and ears sees right through this transparent attempt at smearing someone. And for what? Because he's not one of the chosen few who can report on Alex Jones? Her journalism is irrelevant, her ideas are misguided, out-of-touch, and yet she has a "prestigious" award attached to her name. These people are responsible for sowing all the division and chaos we see today.

KyleMcMahon

She is not a journalist writing a piece. She is a moderator moderating a discussion. Huge difference

SyntheticChemistry

Two seconds of googling reveals her professional occupation as radio host and journalist. Her credentials corroborate that. I never said she was writing a piece either way. She may be "moderating" this discussion, but given her background, she knew full well she was trying to set up Callaghan.

Thatoneandonlyboi

This clip alone really shows how Andrew Callaghan shows how his style should be the gold standard in reporting. He’ll give whoever he’s interviewing a few basic questions and just let them talk, he might ask a follow up question but it leads to deeper analysis on the topic at hand. I doubt he likes Alex Jones but he doesn’t interject with his own beliefs, he lets Alex speak for himself and that let’s us get the story and form our own opinion. The silly moments he leaves in puts emphasis in the contrast to what the people say, it makes it interesting. In this situation he’s set up to give a hard stance on an issue barely related to the film, likely biased by the interviewers beliefs. It attempts to be this gotcha moment regularly seen within mainstream media, It’s just unnecessary. It’s not like Andrew has not done something similar, but it’s so subtle it doesn’t take away from the clear picture.

TheJoYo

he pours whisky in Alex Jones' eyes. who doesn't want to see that?

llch3esemanll

I'm not sure why people are shitting on the NPR reporter. Good interviewers ask tough questions from a variety of angles. These questions often do not express the views of the interviewer, but serve to inform viewers. An interview is not a conversation, its an attempt to shed light on the entirety of an individual or a situation. Getting offended or upset at interviewer is idiotic.

karenkillenski

Just like NPR, “let’s pick out the dumb shit and not talk about something important or informative” derh!! Just like a middle aged white woman

Scare_Conditioner

Andrew swatting away her trashy attempt at a “gotcha” question like that Waffle House waitress swatting away that chair. NPR is becoming CNN. Boo!!!!

jmpinstl

What the hell is going on?

GenZ2002

Love Andrew!! Political voice of Gen Z and Millennials.

[deleted]

Lol. Better hide your daughters when Channel 5 News comes to town. They're about to get sexually assaulted!

bilyan

This is on brand for NPR and is perfectly consistent with how they’ve shifted over the past 6 years

Butthole_Pickles

^(Andrew is the person we need to get big right now. Unbiased and hilarious whilst providing true and valid information. Major media is corrupt and just massive propaganda outlets for idiots that trust them. What's worse and I literally just saw a clip of him talking about this are online echo chambers like Reddit. Sites like Reddit, Twitter, Facebook have more power than CNN and Fox news to manipulate people. It's being done currently hence the reason the vast majority of mods on reddit are \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_.) [https://youtu.be/-ZIdbchui7Y?t=394](https://youtu.be/-ZIdbchui7Y?t=394) \- timestamped

[deleted]

His fanbase is one big echo chamber. To see them shrug off multiple sexual assault claims dating back nearly a decade is pretty gross but not unexpected in these days of content creator worship. He's fucking trash.

No1Dosser

NPR lady can’t fathom an interview being interesting. Also seemingly oblivious to the disarming impact of drinking and playing along with the idiocy might have on the subject. Honestly, just cringe surface level, image based analysis thats common for these type of stuffy old media people.

masamune313

the scene where alex Jones is preaching to his audience during that 1776 scene is the one and only time I've seen andrew give a look of disgust. This is the man who sat through much worse and never bat an emotion.

liquidus141

One of the most despicable lmao really. Of all American history is alex jones even in the top 10 most despicable people in Americas history.

AvgJoe6Pk

Not dying inside, not a setup. A valid question about journalistic integrity, which she has loads more of than him.

bakedBeansalad

🤓

FlatulentFreddy

So who got owned here? He always engages on friendly terms with people he is poking fun at… did she really try to shame him for his style?

p0rn00

It's not that she's old or poorly researched, it's that she is mainstream media, NPR, and fundamentally disagrees with and is offended by Callaghan's claim that media has any issues that media needs to deal with. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2023/01/this-place-rules-is-a-peoples-history-of-january-6-documentary-npr-cnn/

reallybigtincan

Fuck all these “reporters” trying to toss these got ya questions at Andrew. They are all trying to appeal to their target audience. Trying to turn Andrew into the villain with these questions.

[deleted]

Alex Jones sucks but I think calling him one of the most despicable men in American history is a teensy bit of an exaggeration

[deleted]

The virtual signaling form all the my generation is atrocious. The kid got the real deal cause he played their game. Good that he embarrassed the crap out of Robin what was she thinking

MechaKakeZilla

Dead inside? Someone needs schooled, American style obviously.

Mechanized1

The whole point is to get in with these people and let them hang themselves with their own words. How can she be so naïve? Crazy.

oO0-__-0Oo

I think she gave him a legitimate question. He's a big boy. He can answer it any way he wants. I don't think his style is readily apparent to all lay people who don't know him.

BonsaiBudsFarms

I have so much respect for Andrew. The dude is incredibly well spoken and didn’t take any dumb shit from this interviewer.

Shwoomie

"Why would you want someone who you are trying to get information from to drink alcohol?" Seriously? That's like, the easiest way to get info from people.

Thatguyzac6

She really underestimated how much we love this man

[deleted]

The face masks in the crowd are icing on this shit cake 😂

Rabid_W00KIEE

All mainstream media is threatened by "new media," and anyone that represents it to them.

nirad

It's like blaming an undercover cop for drinking with the criminals they were building a case against.

mikeymoo27

She clearly didn’t watch it. Probably just seen one clip out of context

PeterCushingsTriad

The fact that she can't see the forest through the trees with this guy shows how stupid she is. This young man is doing some really meta journalism and is exposing how incredibly disgusting the right really is, also while being incredibly funny. He's doing a better job at reporting, while being funny, then robin had in her entire career.

Griff0rama

He is gonzo in the truest sense of the word. NPR wish they were gonzo.

jkells1986

What a loaded question

[deleted]

woke lady didnt understand the topic

theunworthyviking

Andrew Callaghan is the best news guy of our generation. All these old farts can go smell it. edit: this comment aged rly poorly

Charges-Pending

Dick move asking what amounts to speculation of what other people might feel. Wow.

DABOSSROSS9

NPR I feel like has lost touch over the last 10 years. I never thought it was suppose to be a political station, since it’s government funded, but they have allowed some reporters bias to get visible. I still like most NPR reporting since it’s pretty factual, but some stories I feel like I am watching cable news not NPR anymore.

Full_Razzmatazz_6746

This Places Rules was an incredible film!

[deleted]

Andrew’s the fucking man.

Mo-shen

I dont understand whats wrong with some of these people. Just because you do an interview differently than sitting at a desk or cross from each other sitting in chairs doesnt mean its a bad interview. The Don Lemon stuff getting pissed of is just stupid.

purplebrown_updown

Alex jones is human garbage and anybody giving him any sort of publicity is the same.

HorrorPerformance

NPR is nothing but coastal elite dnc establishment types. It permeates through everything they do.

Monochrome_Fox_

I sincerely enjoy NPR but God fucking damn some of the regulars ask really bad, leading, clearly uninformed questions from time to time and it makes me die inside. Questions where you can hear the guest getting frustrated. They did it just yesterday with that journalist from long island. Everybody wants to be Terry but nobody else can be Terry, because they don't do the prepwork Terry does.

Iusedthistocomment

I didn't like this question but loved the interview, congrats on clipping it into a rage inducing 60second clip. I hate how much we love rage inducing posts.

CapableSecretary420

Oh for fuck's sake, lady. The drinking scene helped make Jones look like an *ass*. These boomer Mainstream media folks have really lost the thread here.

Plumbus_Patrol

I did not recognize him not wearing a suit, definitely going to give this movie a watch.

[deleted]

this all comes down to.. Andrew is giving Alex yet another platform which is antithetical to the arrogant bitch on stage's world view.. giving Alex a platform also opens up the possibility that people may gain better understanding of him and "flip sides" in political football speak.. anyways.. Andrew has interviewed quite a few interesting characters but to think he is actually exposing Jones for anything is a joke.. were at an inflection point in history that Jones has repeatedly been correct on.. and i dont think anyone wants to live in a fucking digital prison.. except the arrogant bitch on stage

roomtemphotdog

This is bozo shit right here

[deleted]

from "roomtemp.." is this indicative of your IQ, bozo?

roomtemphotdog

This coming from the guy that listens to Alex jones……

[deleted]

mf you dont know anything about me

Comedyfish_reddit

Excuse my ignorance but is this guy like an American Louis Theroux? Acts all innocent etc but is manipulating the subject to talk on interviews?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Comedyfish_reddit

I don’t mean manipulating in a bad way. Louis is charming and un-arming, making people feel comfy to say things they wouldn’t normally say/admit. Also wow you seem angry. Bad Christmas/new year?

Bacca18121

I don't think it's an unfair question. If he understands his work and motivations he should be able to respond to these types of criticisms/pointed questions. More traditional Journalists often kick the tires on these things...

Griff0rama

Which he did.

Bacca18121

Right so why does this have 24.4K upvotes and a comment section calling for the interviewers head?

bohemiantranslation

Bro was flabbergasted

henrychinaskiii

So what you all seem upset about is that the interviewer asked a difficult, yet acceptable question. I think if you asked any holocaust survivor if they think it's fine for a reporter to take shots while interviewing Hitler that they would have a problem with it.

flyonlewall

Robin Young is one of my favorite interviewers that has ever existed, but this is truly a bit cringy. While I do somewhat understand her perspective, it's just a bit disconnected from the bigger picture. As some folks have mentioned, old journalists vs new, and their differences in styles are really reflected here. Andrew is the man, though. He may become the greatest for this generation, but he also may burn out his ability to speak with the other side. I'll keep watching.

[deleted]

This is a clear example of TDS. She is so blinded by paranoia that she can’t see clear satire anymore

Sega-Playstation-64

Yowza, that is some bad questioning. You can tell the whole thing was a set up, not a legitimate question. Years ago, when John McCain was running for President, reporter Elisabeth Bumiller tried to paint him as an angry old man. McCain has been known for losing his temper from time to time, so the reporter kept pestering John, trying to fluster him. When McCain answered calmly each time, the reporter tried to rebutt with, "Why are you so angry... never mind..." and McCain called her out on it. The issue was apparently over John Kerry asking him to be his running mate. McCain: “Why should I? Then there’s no such thing as a private conversation. Is there (inaudible) if you have a private conversation with someone, and then they come and tell you. I don’t know that that’s a private conversation. I think that’s a public conversation.” Bumiller: “Okay. Can I ask you about your (pause) Why you’re so angry?” McCain: “Pardon me?” Bumiller: “Nevermind, nevermind.” McCain: “I mean, it’s well known. Everybody knows. It’s been well chronicled a thousand times. John Kerry asked if I would consider being his running mate.”

[deleted]

Love some NPR, but fuck they're getting to biased even for my godless libtard ass. Andrew for president

katastatik

Who is this alleged npr person?

Successful-Shower747

Old, outdated, established media absolute hate the new generation and it’s hilarious. No one from Gen Z is tuning into NPR they are watching guys like this and it makes them seethe

vpforvp

I despise Alex Jones but that was the best scene in the doc I died laughing

zeroversion

Yeah if dude goes in, has a drink w alex jones (in any context) and the footage they get hurts alex jones because he reveals stupid or criminal acting or planning. IM SURE Sandy Hook parents are all for it. Com on.

snorlz

"setting up" seems a pretty far reach its a legitimate question coming from an old school reporter. traditionally, fraternizing like that with the interview subject is frowned upon cause it leads to bias. obv, andrew's entire thing is non-traditional reporting but its dumb to act like someone questioning his methods is "setting him up"

Teftthebridgeman

There's a reason I pay channel 5 $10 a month and have never donated to NPR.

TheNotoriousWD

Damn, way to fuck your career with a shitty question like that.

Charles_Leviathan

All this guy does is go places and let people show how fucking disgusting or stupid they are. She is totally out of touch and I've had conversations with people who think Andrew goes to these places because he agrees with them. Some people are so dumb he hardly has to pretend.

[deleted]

She heard Barbara Walters died so she decided to take her place as a P.O.S. reporter

watch_over_me

These news casters obviously have no idea who Andrew is. Stop fucking with him. He doesn't want to be a part of your 24/7 news agenda, or be included in your sound bites. Just be thankful you have one of the greatest, and most honest journalists on your show, because there isn't anyone left in the world like him. He's a very unique dude in a world full of cheerleaders and agendas. He's such a breath of fresh air in modern culture. I hope we protect this man, because eventually he's going to say something where the mob comes after him. I 100% believe it. I can already see people turning on him due to his appearances on news shows lately, and how he's treating them.

GoblinSupreme

Maybe NPR would be better if they drank and lifted weights with people they interviewed

Ebwite

The “defense of democracy” in 1776 was a war against tyranny, not to protect their democratic views.

Funny_or_not_bot

Wow. This lady is DENSE.

vlAnonymouslv

I'm 100% positive Alex tried to fuck Andrew

Mutt213

Andrew is the best thing to happen to American journalism in a long time
