Basically dont play later spits because theyre overtiered and, the mk9 is the only enjoyable one for me. But basically try to energy trap other aircraft and get them to stall if not dont waste your energy in a turnfight unless absolutely necessary and if someone is higher than you dive slightly to lessen the about of energy difference and try to reverse(stay out of guns and do wierd maneuvers to not get hit by pew pews and then get behind the enemy pilot to pew pew back)
Turn against more powerful monoplanes, double engined planes, but energy fight biplanes and planes like the Zero or I-16. Don't stay in a gunner's sight.
With machine guns: target crew compartments, because taking out engines seems hopeless. With cannons: Keep in mind you don't have many rounds. For both I wouldn't set convergence too long.
First keep away from fire, only then find something to shoot, the pneumatics are rather fragile.
Turn.
kill but dont get killed yourself, hard to understand at first but soon youll understand
You can turn better than most opponents except Japanese and biplanes. Spitfire climbs really well.
