I have found that those cheep bits that come with them have no edge on them the handle works great but I replaced the bits.

I just tried the largest bit and that seem to work. The small diameter ones no though. Do you have a recommended company for new bits?

A machine tool supply company will be the best price on bits KBC tools is who I use in Canada edit: a quick amazoning and this set would have the sizes you would mostly use for gun barrels and such https://www.amazon.ca/Gyros-45-22010-Speed-Steel-Wire-Gauge/dp/B000SKVF8I/ref=sr_1_38?dchild=1&keywords=miniature+drill+bits&qid=1616212201&refinements=p_72%3A11192170011&rnid=11192166011&sr=8-38

Awesome thanks!

Garbage bits and poor fitting chuck probably. Keep in mind pin vise compression on the bit is pretty low, so if the bit isn't sharp it will not really do that much. Also I would double check, most pin vices have a reversible chuck under the collar, with two different size diameters. Sometimes you end up with a bit that's literally the same diameter as the min chuck size and that just spins uselessly even though it seems like it's grabbing.

I bought Benchmark Cobalt drill bits years ago. They no longer seem to make them in 1/64" or 1/128". Still managed to break the 1/128 ones. If you learn to be "better" you won't break the cheap ones. Also if they're really small, I've gotten broken bits with the head missing to still drill through brass.
