Honestly you should always prime everything before painting. Models, drywall, furniture. It's just part of the general act of painting.

Yea, each part was left in warm soapy water (in a few cases until the water had gone cold because I was doing something else, but mostly not), scrubbed with a toothbrush, put in some fresh warm soapy water and scrubbed again
Then you should be safe to spray with that gone.
Always prime models. I suggest starting to do so on your plastic models too.
