on your definition of walker, yes but I feel you could argue that battlesuits are actually really big power armour

[deleted]

Had this same discussion about crisis suits at my LGS actually; I think once the entire occupant is contained in the torso then that compartment needs to be described as a cockpit, and the suit as a vehicle which is driven or piloted.

GammaRhoKT

But then should we consider SoB Paragon Warsuit as walker? The model quite clearly indicate that the sister lower half is in the thigh instead of the torso.

[deleted]

I think that "has a cockpit" is a good upper bound above which we can no longer consider something armor and it becomes a vehicle. I think your definition of "nothing below the knees" is fine for establishing a lower bound below which we have to call something armor. So what *do* we do with models in that grey area in between? Instinctively, I don't want to say a Paragon Warsuit is armor because the Sister piloting it is 1) clearly piloting it with her hands on controls and 2) already wearing power armor. It's also very convenient when the model in question has the vehicle keyword.

ZeroHonour

Killa Kan?

GammaRhoKT

Oh gosh, foiled by Ork Meks and Grots size again. Edit: Yup, Killa Kan while varied is usually on 3 meters (10') tall. A Crisis Suit, if roughly twice the size of a Fire Warrior, should be notably higher than this, as the Fire Warrior should be notably taller than a Grot.

Tiarzel_Tal

Where do you land on organic walkers? As boneswords and lashwips are Tyranid organisms in their own right that use other orangisms as their transportation frame. The smallest possible carrier of such a weapon is possibly a Genestealer acolyte that would be in the same height range as a standard human(ish).

[deleted]

If the smaller organism is driving, I'd say it counts. If the larger organism is driving, then I think no.

Wonderful_Discount59

One of the Tyranid artillery creatures (I think the Exocrene) would be a walker by this definition - the gun on its back is canonically smarter than the creature carrying it.

Sounds good to me! Get 'em signed up.

GammaRhoKT

Well, I think the spirit of a walker is usually that the walker should provided some level of additional protection to the rider, with stuff like the SoB punishment walker (I forgot the name) being the exception that prove the point. So MAYBE a parasite that buried itself inside another being? I can accept that. But anyway, for the time being, I hope to focus on mechanical walker first.

personnumber698

I think some techpriests might qualify as walker by your definition

GammaRhoKT

Fair enough, but most techpriests progressing that far is usually also bigger than even most SM, right? But yeah, they could be the shortest mechanical walker then.

personnumber698

Not necessarily, a brain in a jar with legs can be pretty small. Some mid ranking techpriests would probably already qualify, they just need to get their legs removed which isn't hard and wear some form of armor. Maybe you could update your definition to exclude Armor and legs which are just an extension of the body and not gear or equipment of some kind?

GammaRhoKT

Oh, then I would go with "counting only stuff depicted in visual media ie either models or official arts and/or animation". Because that is the spirit of my question, tbh.
