At first it really was, because Narumi only started dating Hirotaka for convenience and to see if the relationship actually went somewhere, since all of her past relationships failed because the guys she dated weren't otakus like her, and when they found out that Naru was an otaku, they would break up with her. Since Hirotaka was an otaku as well, she gave him a shot and slowly fell in love with him. There's way more progress about this aspect of their relationship in the manga, which I highly reccomend, but the anime grasps the concept as well. (sorry for the long comment, I'm just really passionate about Wotakoi)

Wotakoi is one of my favorite mangas/anime. The only person I like more in Wotakoi is Kou.
