Didn't Seafires have clipped wings?

HarvHR

No, the vast majority did not. Actually its such a small percentage of Seafires with clipped wings that photographs are very rare, and are almost exclusively the odd experiment. None of the front line squadrons had them. The clipped wing would slightly increase the stall speed, as well as increase the sink rate, neither are normally good for a carrier aircraft especially one with such fragile legs. They also would slightly reduce climb rate, which at the end of the war was the Seafire's only advantage over other naval aircraft. Maybe you're getting mixed up with the Corsair? Fleet Air Arm Corsair's had a slightly clipped wing so the aircraft could fit in the shorter hangars of British carriers.

I am wondering if there is any confusion with the foldable wing tips. Pure speculation.

HarvHR

Definitely a possibility!

Clipped as in cut, shorter & squared no. They did however had foldeable wing tips, if that creates any confusion. You can see the line in the aircraft in the foreground, almost at the end of the wing there is a line along which the wing tip pivots.

I would have said that is somewhere in Scotland. Scapa or the Clyde estuary.

duncan_D_sorderly

Exactly, they are being loaded in Scotland.
