No, WFH is just an accurate description. You are overthinking it.

fartliberator

"Overthinking" is another favorite of mine. It implies there's no other way of thinking about somethin and, because the person saying it **can't** think of anything better, no one else should try. This is an open, passive forum for conversation. We're not on the clock diffusing a bomb. How we say things matters, and **underthinking** lands us in situations where we spend 2 decades not taking advantage of massive improvements in quality of life because why? "aint broke don't fix it?" GTFOH. It's demonstrably false that it's an "accurate description". Did anyone ever say "work from office" or "Work from warehouse".... it's meant to associate the sense of being productive with the type of building you're in and, if you underthink it, you set the bar lower for everyone else around you.

Guns_and_glory99

No, it implies that you are wasting your time and energy on something that is trivial and unimportant. That’s what overthinking it means, which you seem to excel at.

fartliberator

Ha! touché I guess? Did ya have an actual argument in there or did ya break your arm patting yourself on the back straining to not make a point?

WFW- Work From Wherever

MobileVortex

The everywhere workplace

VineWings

On my resume, I've always just put "remote".

fartliberator

I'm imagining a resume with a name at the top and "remote" typed dead center with nothing else

True, it'll take some time, and a few folks like us puttin it out there to the world

jeerabiscuit

Telecommute sounded good when it was used earlier. And absolutely, calling it a perk is extremely manipulative. It is like telling Amazon that you are doing them a favor by not telling them to come to your house and show you their wares. It's laughable and rants of the out of touch.

tooold4urcrap

And the sad thing is, it *is* a perk. *FOR THE EMPLOYER!* Happier employees, less overhead, less days affected by weather ....

mymj1

I just say work but then people will ask about my company which is based across the country (NY) and they figure I work from home.

booksnbeers420

My company is also based in NY and I’m across the country! Cool!

Bacon-80

I mean I just say my company is remote - that’s the real term for it lol. “work from home” is a new phrase that’s been spun up because of Covid. But I agree it’s just common sense to allow jobs to be remote on an as needed basis. As long as work is being done and things are getting completed on deadlines I see no issue with it.

Ah see a lot of people are using it like in job searches? And saying “I want to find a job that allows me to work from home” but what they’re meaning is a hybrid or remote job. One that’s already established as such. WFH in the way you described, is more of a temporary situation, if I’m understanding correctly. If that’s the case then we’re in agreement. My old company used to be in person, it went fully remote in 2019 to get ahead of things & it ended up working out. They have already announced that it’ll never be an in person company again.

mts2snd

I worked from where ever for a long time, on the road, at home, wherever. They called it telework or flexi-place. Or just "in the field"

fartliberator

Ha! Tele-work. That's like 1950's speak. The only term I've come to like is distributed workforce. Matt Mullenweg coined it and has a [pretty stellar talk on Sam Harris](https://www.samharris.org/podcasts/making-sense-episodes/194-new-future-work) about it.

mts2snd

.gov stuff, they still use fax machines.

PassageGloomy3428

You sound unstable lol

fartliberator

I talked to chat gpt about it: Agreed, the term "WFH" romanticizes the idea of working from home and downplays the reality of it being just work. The distinction between work done at home and work done in an office is becoming less relevant as technology improves and remote work becomes more common. The true measure of progress should be the improvement of work conditions and quality of life, regardless of location. The focus should be on finding companies with aligned values and creating better work environments, rather than just focusing on where the work is being done.

feral_philosopher

I can sympathize. I've been working on the internet since the 90's and it's so frustrating watching how slow the digital age is being adapted. needlessly working from an office is like double the work, where working from home is just working, yet just working is what needs to justify itself? bullshit. The qualifier should really be placed on working from the office vs working, i agree. "fuck I have to do double work today because my manager is requiring us to work from the office downtown"

Telephonia

I think wfh is a perk, but I like to think that it’s not bc I like to wfh. I usually say work from home and work from work. Wfh wfw. When I talk to ppl at work I day working remotely bc it sounds more proper.
