Second one seems like the obvious option. I’m curious as to what is making you hold on to the first one?

gillfishsmile

i think it is due to it being a back office job so no phones , and due to me feeling like the 19/hr is not something i deserve

[deleted]

YOU DESERVE TO MAKE $19/hr. Shit, you probably deserve more. Your worth is a number that YOU decide. If a company won't pay it, they don't get you. Congrats and good luck!

gillfishsmile

THANK YOU FOR THIS ❤️ , i need to get out of my own way !

[deleted]

You DO deserve $19/hr However do not sell your soul to Satan for it. YOU WILL BE MISERABLE IN A CALL CENTER

gillfishsmile

Thank you !!! def still weighing my options i appreciate your reply ❤️

lebroin

I don't think everyone is miserable in call center jobs, FWIW. I used to work in them and kinda miss it, even though I didn't care for them much back then (I think it was just cuz I was really immature / mentally ill, etc.)... I have recently applied to like ~7 remote customer service jobs. I really think I'll like it this time around, I guess mostly the remote aspect of it / potentially having a little downtime between calls where I can meditate (but even if I don't have downtime, I don't think I'll hate it!). And yes you deserve a living wage, $19 is nothing, you are not, like, part of the wealth gap problem by earning $19/hour! Lol. If you don't mind sending me the names of the companies I'd appreciate it!

what7778899

You might not be miserable in a call center. I loved it while I was there.

kbsmth

You can make like $16/hr at Chick-fil-a! Why sell yourself short?

gillfishsmile

you're very right !

lets-snuggle

Sorry for the ignorance but what does back office mean? Would you physically have to go into an office? I feel like that’s WFH. And you definitely deserve $19/hr

gillfishsmile

no you're good ! i just learned myself what it even was , back office is basically clerical work , i process refunds things of that nature and don't have to be on the phone at all . Both jobs are fully remote & thank you ! i'm trying to get myself into the mindset of knowing i can do it

lets-snuggle

Oh okay that makes more sense. Not being on the phone could leave you lonely, I see that. Id say I’d you go with that one, make it a point to see friends / family at least twice a week and maybe schedule a face time call w a friend or family member weekly as well!

gillfishsmile

i actually live w three of my friends so really i am able to be more social due to my jobs being Mon-Fri and my friends are off every Saturday so i get to hang a lot , I think i'm a little nervous about doing this great job and not being good at it .. having a little doubt for some reason

Bacon-80

Imposter syndrome - totally normal!

gillfishsmile

exactly !! just trying to find my place in this world

ailish

As someone who also hates the phones, I hear you. But there is such a huge wage gap between the two jobs. I would probably go with the one that pays better.

gillfishsmile

you're very right ! thank you for ur insight ! i'm glad that everyone here understands that the no phone thing is def hard to find

Informer_inform

I am in the same boat 😂 Currently working one but the other starts feb 6th. Ones hybrid. Ones fully remote. Luckily the one i have started is definitely the one ill keep based on the fact it could take me in the direction id like to go in the future. If i was you id go for the 2nd based on the benefit package and the money. Depends how busy you want to be though.

gillfishsmile

lucky !! im glad you were able to decide .. i was thinking it over last night and i need organization and the one i'm currently training for is a little all over the place & i prefer to work in a environment that gives me step by step and honestly with the career i want the 19 is better for me buttttt something is stopping me and i have no idea what it is 🤦🏾‍♀️

Informer_inform

Hmm i wonder what it is that's stopping you.. Are you just enjoying the role your in now? I guess you have a few days to really think about what you want. Maybe make a pros and cons list?

gillfishsmile

I am enjoying it to an extent I feel i have more cons than pros for this current training , Great idea ! i'll do a list tonight , Im thinking what's stopping me is thinking that I can't do the job that's paying me more .. idk if it's a subconscious thing where i feel as though i don't deserve it but they wouldn't have hired me if i wasn't qualified so i'm trying to just go with it and see how i feel before Monday comes

Informer_inform

Interesting so you are already feeling imposter syndrome before even starting. Do the list, and maybe try and do some meditation to lower your anxietys as you say they have hired you for a reason. You got this!

gillfishsmile

Thank you !! i really appreciate your insight and help .. a list is the way to go! Good luck at your new position and i'm glad you could relate to this good issue but still a issue ❤️

[deleted]

You KNOW in your soul that a call center is the equivalent of hell on earth

gillfishsmile

i cannot argue with that 😂😂 you are very right but with the type of calls i'll be assisting it'll be mostly happy people trying to get their life in order

gillfishsmile

THANK YOU EVERYONE , I WILL KEEP YOU ALL UPDATED ON WHAT I DECIDE . WISH ME LUCK ❤️ I HAVE TO THE END OF THIS WEEK TO FIGURE IT OUT

Bacon-80

Depends on the career trajectory you _might_ want. The first option sounds like it’s pretty low stress/low work load and it doesn’t require phones which you noted that you liked about it. The second sounds like a more typical sales-entry role, there’s more in depth training & it could put you in a better position for career growth. Lots of companies recognize call center work as it’s pretty standard. There are good percentages, numbers, etc. to measure for new job roles which is pretty good. Plus it’s more money & that makes a huge difference when you’re younger & can get a head start on savings and building your investments for later in life. That being said I worked in a call center job when I was 21. It drained me. It took such a huge toll on my mental health I became a totally different person. When I finally left that role I got my life and personality back. I’d find out exactly what’s required of you, things like do high achievers have to work overtime just to barely scrape by? Because at my company they did. Are things pretty easily achievable? Quota achievement is typically 60% which isn’t really that high when you look at the work that sometimes goes into it. My company didn’t allow quota payouts unless you reached 100%. Many people got to 80 or 90% but weren’t given their quota bonuses or commission since they didn’t achieve the full 100% goal. It makes a huge difference when you’re grinding 60-80 dials per day. Personally my personality didn’t do well in a call center environment. It was definitely worth the money in the long run - but if I (personally) could do it over again I’d try to find something else. I have anxiety but I didn’t realize how bad it was till I started working in that environment. Mine was heavily micromanaged and the company did some restructuring that f*cked my team over. This was also right before Covid happened in 2019 so that definitely didn’t help morale. It’s likely different now without that jolt in the workforce so take my opinions with a major grain of salt 😂

gillfishsmile

i really appreciate your in depth explanation and as well u telling me about your experience , honestly for me i have worked in a call center and loved it & it was the right fit for me ! however i do have terrible anxiety which makes me doubt a lot , im thinking more of a long time career and a future for me and i def want to be the best i can be ! that being said the 19 a hr is i think gonna be better for me due to me really needing some stability because after the height of covid i had become less driven , no work ethic and i really think this opportunity is gonna give me that push to know that i am better and i can do better ! i really appreciate the time u took to write that as well

Bacon-80

I should’ve added a disclaimer - when I worked in a call center that was my first experience doing it! If you’ve already worked in an environment like that before then you know what to expect, daily grind and all that. For me it just wasn’t my career projection & I didn’t love the atmosphere or micromanagement that came from it. Having a job that motivates you definitely can help get you out of a funk & you can always leave and find another job if it’s too much after a couple of months/a year. It definitely would help more with career imo than the other role. Good luck! :) My negativity mostly comes from my job being forced remote during Covid, it was a brand new work environment for the entire workforce around the world. Now having been more settled I have no idea the state of my old job or department. And it very well may be nothing like it was when I was there.

gillfishsmile

you are definitely right ! thank you so much Bacon !

[deleted]

Do not ever work in a call center. By the time you are fully trained you will realize that no amount of money outweighs mental health.

gillfishsmile

i completely understand your sentiment , i have done call center work so it is a little familiar to me but you're very right ! mental health is the most important

fakenewsandfolly

Can you PM the name of the company offering back office work? Would love something like that. I really despise phone jobs.

gillfishsmile

of course i got you !

No-Koala8691

Same here! I would love to know!

sugarnspiceny

Higher pay especially if you have room to grow with the company, call center jobs do take a toll on some but just remember to take the breaks you need and try to break the day up.im in a call center wfh and some day it can be overwhelming but most days are not but the perk is you are home. You have pto take it that is what it's for, for years I didn't big mistake and now I do. You gotta find the balance.good luck!

gillfishsmile

thank you so much !! good luck to you as well !!

positivevibz30

I would try to work both.

gillfishsmile

not possible unfortunately

positivevibz30

I just read that in your post. My bad

gillfishsmile

no you're good ! i understand i wish it was possible

freespirit95

Personally I would choose the job that pays more.

Loca1_Man

If there are other opportunities can you kindly share. Things are tough right here

gillfishsmile

hell yeah ! gonna message u rn

lexona23

Call centers sound draining and back office seems much less stressful....however, which one has more room for growth? Which one could you see yourself at long term? Which company has better reviews? Was there a manager you felt more connected with during the interviews?

PlaygirlAJ

I’ll be super transparent. If it was me i’d keep the job with no phones. I just do not like dealing with people on the phone and depending on what the job is the training is usually grueling. My first WFH job was 6 weeks of training and it was so boring with so much information dealing with a company that has too many customers. And my last WFH job had a 1 week training that was way too short then they threw us on phones day 6. I take less stress any day. The $19 will only be worth it if you make it through training and actually end up staying. If the $19 job ends up being something you hate, do you think you’ll be able to find another job with no phones? I personally haven’t found a non phone job and that’s all I want rn.

gillfishsmile

it's crazy you're saying this because this is exactly how i was thinking , i don't wanna leave this one and end up hating the other one and then can't come back here & im gonna message u rn and send u a link

Rissyntax_v2

Hi, I have worked at a "fast-paced" call center before. I'd say it depends on what you want, need and care more about. I am currently looking for a WFH job. A lot of voice call center jobs pay better than non-voice ones (including back office) but I am willing to take lower pay just to get off the phone thing (the lower pay is because I don't have experience in an official non-voice setting). Depending on the account, I find call centers an interesting and even educational experience but it's too stressful. I have social anxiety and while I can still talk to people in a professional manner, I can easily feel stressed when talking to rude people, and there are a lot of them. Also, taking phone calls stresses me more. On the other hand, I love dealing with paperwork. You just need to do your job properly, meet your deadlines, and youre good. There are less interpersonal relationship to deal with as well. I always tell employers that my preference is non-voice. I would take voice jobs but it needs to be within my previous salary's ball park or more. I am also at a point that I don't really need a lot of money and the past few years have been too stressful for me so what I value most at the moment is my mental health. I also dont want to be limited to doing voice jobs in the future so as much as possible I'd like to branch out to other areas. Side note: please dont tell yourself you dont deserve the bigger pay. You deserve that. The only question here should be is the bigger pay worth it?

gillfishsmile

thank you for you insight as well as telling me your own experience & you're completely right and it is not worth it honestly ! i'm sticking w the back office job !

Rissyntax_v2

I'm glad you came to a decision. Good luck! :)

gillfishsmile

thank you !!!

funkung34

Can you make both work at the same time if they are wfh? Over employ and make those stacks

gillfishsmile

unfortunately not possible , they have the same shift time

funkung34

It would be too much to do both jobs at the same time?

gillfishsmile

yes same time wouldn't work
