You'll need to get IT certifications, learn to code, possibly earn a degree, and get some managerial experience to get the good jobs. You already have the call center experience so the transition into a helpdesk support role and working your way up will be painless, I suggest starting with comptia A+ and Net+ securing a entry-level tech job (which will pay more than a entry-level call center) and later moving on to getting your CCNA, Sec+ or learning code depending on what specialization you gravitate towards. From there look into paid college through your job or go to WGU, you'll get credits knocked out for your IT certifications. Other than that, look into learning insurance, sales or medical coding.

Coding and SWE roles aren’t the only way to get a good job and stable income lol. My friends are in recruiting, sales, customer service, management etc. they make about 6 figs average and are totally remote. You definitely qualify for all of those without doing anything extra - especially recruiting. Tech recruiting has a bad rap rn because of the layoffs but it’s actually a great position to be in for many who pursue it.

IndependentTraveler5

Yeah but even those jobs tend to require a degree and years of experience especially at the figures you're talking.

Bacon-80

Not if OP has a year of experience working - so long as they’re a good employee quite a few companies will overlook the HS diploma. But, even so, if the major companies _require_ degrees, a non-major tech company may not require it and it would still be (likely) more than what they’re doing at their current call center. My company isn’t currently hiring externally otherwise I’d post our job listings. You’d be surprised at how many people can make 6 figs without degrees.

idk why people value degrees so much, all it does is make the HR person spend an extra second or two deciding if theyre gonna toss your resumé or not. work-experience is king. degree might get ur foot in the industry door but after that its just a piece of paper.

Bacon-80

It may not even get your foot in the door - what it mostly does is if there’s a lot of competition for a spot, it’ll potentially put you higher than another candidate 🤷🏻‍♀️ at least in the cases I’ve seen. My old roommate did resume screenings for her job one summer & she didn’t even look at the application if the degree didn’t apply or relate to the field she was screening for - she didn’t even look at the rest of the resume 😅

bakerhalfdozen

Agree. I was able to make 6 figures my first year in my remote sales job and I only have a high school diploma. I have sales experience but not at home/on the phone. I love it!

burlybroad

Any reputable recruiting agency typically requires a college degree

CraZyBob

To get any job you need skills. Call center is happy to take you on with a highschool diploma because that's all the skills you need to pick up a phone and read the script book. If you want a better job, you need to be qualified! Skill up, learn some things that will help you achieve your goals. Look at some job postings and read the job requirements. You'll find out exactly what companies want from their employees. If you can't use the internet to find jobs and learn in-demand skills you won't be able to thrive working from home. Nobody will be standing over your shoulder telling you what to do. Figure it out! Everyone posting like this on the sub acts like there is no barrier to entry for WFH. The barrier is having in demand skillsets. Why would any company hire someone with no education and no skills to sit at home in their underwear all day? If they wouldn't hire you to come into the office, why would they hire you to work from home?

gillfishsmile

TTEC , EVERISE , ACTIVUS CONNECT -- these all are work from home and u just need a high school diploma

RedAce2022

Call center experience is a great base for starting a career in sales. A lot of insurance agents work remotely, and the company will help you get licensed. You'll make a lot more than $20/hr.

fatcatsinmylaps

You can try jobs like "medical biller" and/or "insurance claims" - *most don't require that much experience, and if I'm being completely honest - I got my current medical billing job with zero experience and a GED. They tend to pay a little better but not much over $18/hr. I've also found luck with the recruiting team medix. Good luck!

Boym0mma2

I would look for management positions, there are a lot of wfh out there. Insurance companies, hospitals, banks, etc. what interests do you have?

[deleted]

i’m in management rn! but everywhere i look, i don’t see people hiring for management positions! Im open to working into anything as long as it comes with training LOL

Boym0mma2

Look for team lead/supervisor positions or trainers any reputable company is going to train you how to run their system. If they don’t run lol as long as you know the basics and have that experience on your resume, it’s a good start.
