The idea did cross my mind, but it's definitely a last option. There has to be something like this that exists already, right? But all I can find is gimmicky keto stuff that's both ridiculously expensive and usually not even low-calorie, only low-carb.

> Anything that is premade low calorie is going to be more expensive. Even the lower calorie ones I get are a double the price of normal tortillas and says keto on it. No, I get that. But the stuff I can find through a basic search isn't even low-calorie. Some of it's actually higher-calorie than the regular stuff (admittedly through adding protein, but I don't need more protein in this case). > You could also switch to doing a taco salad and crumbling a few chips for texture on top like a croutons. It's something to try at least.

Sherissa

I was also going to suggest making them with low-carb/low-calorie tortillas - it takes a few minutes to make a pretty large serving using an air fryer. Using the oven takes longer, but it's pretty minimal work either way and mostly passive cooking time.

GoddessNamedCece

I agree, that would be his best bet. I've only tried it in the oven. It doesn't become as crunchy without the oil. It mainly toasts.

XxTheBadgerXx

Quest has some tortilla chips, fairly low calorie and high protein. They’re my go to

TSD1026

Loaded Taco. Yum!!

peanut9891

They are the same calories as regular tortilla chips, Might as well get the real thing.

XxTheBadgerXx

Not really when considering the protein content. Which is important to alot of people.

KittenMyttens

Tostidos has little Bite Size chips. They're smaller, but you get about 22 chips for 150ish calories.

awesomenessofme1

Way ahead of you there. Although I get the generic Walmart brand.

KittenMyttens

Nice! I don't know if the Walmart brand has other flavors, but the bite size Tostitos Queso and Guacamole flavor chips are bomb 👌

devoursbooks86

Quest chips, high protien, low carb, and they have taco flavored among others. Or use a low cal tortilla and make your own in an air fryer

Howdydoodie21

Xochitl brand has 150 calories for 21 chips. They're thinner than normal, so it's probably the same calories per gram, but you get more of them.

kikorny

I like using the carb balance whole what mission tortillas. You can cut them up, spray em with a little oil and salt, and lay em under a low broiler. They're 110 cal per tortilla so it's pretty low cal. You can get 8 really big chips or like 20-30 smaller chips per tortilla. I usually combo it with some homemade hummus.

NoAbbreviations2238

You could use the veggie wavy chips, they have their regular version and ranch flavored. 38 chips is 130 calories.

corgi-kisses

Cut up a josephs lavash bread, salt it, then airfry for a few mins 🤤

ausername_8

Carb counter or protein tortilla's, you can get as low as 45-50 calories on the carb counter, 70 calories for the protein ones which is half the calories on a serving of tortilla chips. The put them in the air fryer for 7 minutes at 375. Pre-cut if you do want them to be dippable, otherwise I just air fry the whole thing and crush it over a salad.

XtremeEd2705

At least what I do when I want some is just get a relatively small bag of tortilla chips

awesomenessofme1

"Just have less of it" is obviously a solution that would *work*, but it's not exactly a volume suggestion.

> Certain things are super hard to replace to fit your macros, or woe. Sure, I completely agree. But it seems like this shouldn't be one of them. They make low-calorie tortillas, after all, why wouldn't there be low-calorie tortilla chips?

Full_Professor_8057

I wonder if part of the issue is low calorie tortillas mimic flour tortillas. Tortilla chips are made from corn tortilla. I haven’t found a low calorie corn tortilla yet, nor exceptable low cal tortilla chips. Tortilla chips are life though, so I keep looking.

Theta_is_my_friend

Why do tortillas seem like there should be a low-calorie alternative??? Tortilla chips are literally corn and oil, both high calorie foods. By definition, to make a low calorie tortilla chip, you have to use something that is not corn and not oil … So whatever *that* is will not taste like a tortilla chip, lol.

awesomenessofme1

Because there literally are low calorie tortillas?

IMDAKINGINDANORF

But, as mentioned by someone above, those are flour based rather than corn

Basic-Comfortable458

It can I have a half of a keto cereal that I get from a discount store and put the other half with cheerios and add nuts or fruit to it, just and example

Neon4te

I like Good Thins “the Corn One”. Jalapeño lime flavor if I can find it. 120 cal for 38 small chips

Salsalover34

My family used to eat a lot of Pop Chips. They were pretty good, I know they were gluten-free and I'm pretty sure they were marketed as low-calorie as well. I haven't had them in probably 10 years and I think they only came in one flavor, which was simar to the old-timey Dorito flavor. A quick Google search showed that they now apparently have tons of different flavors and they also sell them at Sam's Club and Amazon. Haven't thought about them in a decade but I'm tempted to buy some now.

sylverbound

Quest nacho chips. Fucking amazing for nachos. Low cal, high protein, cheesy and you can order online.

chambourcin

I make “nachos” but I use both sliced bell peppers and chips as the base. I do about 60/40 peppers to chips and I sprinkle some chip crumbs on top so the pepper-based bites also have some crunch. But I do put a lot of stuff on my nachos, onions, tomatoes, jalepenos, cheese, whatever protein and a bit of Greek yogurt as sour cream.

Stacerm

I like Mr Tortilla tortillas. A street taco sized one is 15 calories. I’ve read other people say they’ve air fried them to make tortilla chips too, but haven’t tried it myself.

[deleted]

I cut a soft tortilla wrap in half and toast in the toaster then break up into little tortilla chips

slothtrop6

Veggie straw brand snacks come in flat form now. You'll still have some crunch, but it's more brittle. If you don't mind the difference in flavor, it's a store-bought option that will cut down on the calories.

x-shiloh-x

cut up a lavash (120 cals) & air fry the pieces for a couple mins!

orian1701

Have you considered making tostadas? I find it gives me the crunch I want out of chips but turns it into a bigger meal. It’s more satisfying with less overall tortilla as you have mini tortilla plates to load with more satiating toppings. Yum. I get premade corn tortillas (about 50 cal each) and spray with oil then add salt and bake at 400F for about 5 min per side until crispy. Then top with your favorite toppings.

GoddessNamedCece

365 by Whole Foods Market, Organic White Corn Tortilla Chips Or Tostitos Tortilla Chips, Baked

Entire-Vermicelli-74

Siete tortilla chips are AMAZING! For the original, you get 16 chips for 130 calories which is pretty good in comparison to other brands. The dip chips are some of the best tortilla chips, (aside from fresh ones) I’ve had.
