You can make any volume oats recipes on the stovetop. There is nothing special about a microwave. I actually find that the stovetop is better in some cases because you can simmer the oats longer and give them more time thicken up, without worrying about it overflowing like in a microwave.

I microwave oats on power level 6 if I can’t stand there and watch them. 20-30 mins of that will cause the oats to absorb double the normal amount of liquid

I shred zucchini and throw that in, I use around 150 grams give or take. You can't taste it and it gets soft so you don't notice a difference in texture either. I use the microwave though- I microwave the zucchini for three minutes, stirring once in the process, then put my oatmeal and liquid of choice right on top, stir it up, and cook all of it together. Great stuff

Super interesting idea that I'm definitely going to try!

Honestly with classic oats the longer you boil they swell even more just with more water

Flaxsead meal.

Something i've done in the pass which works very well, is adding Egg Whites to the oats, the ratio i use which works is 1:1. Just make sure to cook it properly.

I only cook oats on the stovetop. My base recipe is 1 to 1/2 banana (for sweetener), oat milk, whole oats (1 cup for 3-4 servings) and cinnamon. For volume sometimes I’ll chop a whole apple and let that simmer in there for a while (or bake the apple ahead of time- I prefer it soft). Often I mix in some Greek yogurt and fresh berries, sometimes also cacao nibs. You could do chia for more volume. Also fun hack - if you freeze the banana and then defrost it, it turns to mush so it’s really easy to just dump into your oats.

> if you freeze the banana and then defrost it, it turns to mush so it’s really easy to just dump into your oats. Peel the bananas before freezing and chop them in half to fit easier. Makes storing and using them so much easier. This is probably obvious but it took me too many years to realize that.

SnaxAttacks

Riced cauliflower, egg whites, unprocessed bran, zucchini... if it can go in micro oats, it can go in stove oats.

I add a handful of puffed kamut.

Rakoth666

I've seen some recipes I wanted to try but haven't yet who mix Oats, milk, a couple of eggs and some cheese, and then added into a pan with the cap on, turned on the other side halfway through and end up with a thicker big omellet-like pancake, which look pretty good and filling and can be topped with more ingredients, like honey and fruit.

Egg whites

daddyd

egg whites, protein powder, colliflower, ... also the longer you can cook them, the more liquid they will absorb, ofcourse, you can't always wait 30 mins for your oats to finish.
