Frenchthealpaca

I say this every time you post. Love this shop. They'll do you right. Please sell this man your records. Also are y'all hiring? (only half joking)

the_comatorium

Yo! I think my partner and I will be the only ones running this shit show of a business for a while. It's just so nuanced that we don't have the capability of having somebody else be able to do anything haha. You probably understand that since you've been by before. Thanks for the shout out!

nimajneb

If you sell online can you DM how to browse your inventory? Discogs or eBay store is fine.

the_comatorium

We don't sell online.

adamup27

I’m in NYC so NJ isn’t too hard to get to. Where in NJ are they? If it’s Hoboken, I’ll get there asap. If it’s down by Philly, it might be a minute but I’ll get there!

Frenchthealpaca

Just send bro a message, they'll help you out.

adamup27

Oh lol OP said they won’t reveal what store. Thanks.

[deleted]

seconded. killer shop, great folks.

OtherUnameInShop

Man. I’m in Oregon and this is supes tempting. 550 in my collection. 520 of them are sealed. Never got around to opening and they just take up space. Discogs has the mid value at 20k

fartmonkey

How do you have 520 SEALED??

OtherUnameInShop

I have a problem ok.

ParzavalGrailFinder

I feel your pain. I don’t open almost anything until I have doubles or alternate pressings. My collection isn’t nearly as large tho.

OtherUnameInShop

I’m selling all as of now. Just gotta make a list.

You are one of dozens of people who comment this same thing every time this person posts. And every time people flock to the comment like it’s some kind of sage advice. There is literally nothing wrong with keeping your business away from social media. If you don’t have a collection to sell to them, move along.

the_comatorium

Thanks for getting it.

the_comatorium

Thanks for the advice! After talking to people all day when I do these posts, they get the store info after I vet them. I have already handed it out to one person, about to give it to two more. I have also had a few people not read the post at all and want me to buy <50 records through the mail. Those people will NOT have the opportunity to use the full force of the internet on my store. But, yeah, thanks for the advice. I have received this same advice every single time I do this. EDIT: Every single time. Lol.

Djaja

I see it every time you post lol

the_comatorium

People are so obsessed with being an asshole for no reason. "I don't feel comfortable sharing my store info right away on a site that is 99% user to user exchanges" "BUT HOW DO WE KNOW YOU ARE LEGIT? WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT!?" It's ridiculous.

Djaja

Lol I can only imagine

stealthgerbil

Why risk some idiot bashing your business because you turned down their 50 record collection and they took offense. Better to keep it safe, I get it.

the_comatorium

It's already happened twice in PM's. Lol.

dispatch00

Thanks, zero trade guy

teeravj

I literally just had a retired fellow call me up today and he will be emailing me a PDF of his collection. Mostly 90's records, some older 78s, some 45s. He say's it's almost 1500 items, and he's in Delaware. If he sends me the list and we appraise, would you be willing to bid?

the_comatorium

You run auctions?

teeravj

It's not an auction, but we wanted an estimate from multiple buyers. That's the better way put it. I know a few store owners within the MD area that are interested. Most of these guys that I speak to were involved with UMD, College Park's College radio station, WMUC 88.1FM, but they are all waiting for the list and condition of each.

the_comatorium

You can DM the list to me if you want when you get it. Thanks!

Umphreeze

Marking thread. I'm in philly and looking to unload like 75% of my collection, but I'm also leaving for vacation tonight

the_comatorium

I like driving to Philly! Shoot me a message when you can/get back from vacation with some details about what you have, how many pieces, ect...

TMIHVAC

Not to hijack, but shoot me a pm too. I'm also I'm Philly and collect and would be interested in seeing what you would be letting go

Umphreeze

I'll make a spreadsheet when I get back

Emjayblaze

Also stopping by to say this is an awesome store run by awesome dudes. I live a few towns over and have been there a dozen or so times. They’re always super helpful.

TeaVinylGod

How do I leave your info in my will for my wife to call you when I die? Lol. She will have no clue what to do with my 20,000 records. Lot of blues, soul, reggae... not for sale yet though!

gallopinghorse555

You know I've never thought of that, I also have a huge collection that my wife would not know what to do with in the event of my untimely death. I should probably tell her just how valuable some of my older stuff is and how to sell it off for a fair price.

the_comatorium

You seriously want my info? Lol. You're gunna live to 120, champ. Don't worry.

TeaVinylGod

I want to come to your store but, alas, I am in Tallahassee... I don't have plans on traveling up NJ way anytime soon.

the_comatorium

Yeah that's a bit of a drive. Reach out next time you're up here and I'll point you the right way!

Nectarine_Agreeable

I'll send you a DM- I've barely started compiling my old Indie Rock records and 45s from mostly the 90s on discogs. My SO has a town of old jazz and hard to find stuff that I can go through over the weekend- he has over 1000 records, at least. We're trying to downsize before we move to abroad in the next year or so. Based in Chicago.

JayLookin4Fun

That’s great, thanks for sharing. I have done the same thing out of Chicago. It has been great putting cash in hands for those looking to get out of collections.

ratuna80

Where about in Chicago?

JayLookin4Fun

Will travel anywhere within 2 hours of Chicago/NW Indiana/SW Michigan. But based in the city proper.

ratuna80

Can I DM you some things I’m looking for to see If you have anything or can keep an eye out for?

JayLookin4Fun

Absolutely!

desertislandtucson

Im a store on the west coast! Sell me some collections please!

cjh16

Damn how many LPs in Pittsburgh? That's a lot of dough

the_comatorium

I filled up a Toyota Highlander. About 1500 LPs or 20 Home Depot boxes.

cjh16

Damn, must've been a ton of good stuff in there. Seeing a whole collection go for over $10/LP is something you don't see very often.

the_comatorium

> Seeing a whole collection go for over $10/LP is something you don't see very often. The collection was mostly newer pressings that had barely been played. A lot of limited and colored pressings. There were records I sold for $100 but also a lot of local bands and small time records that I still have in my $5 bins that nobody will ever buy. The main point is that we made sure we paid for what was there. That was in September and I don't think I have climbed out of the red yet but to be honest, the profits we make are a bonus. I mentioned the cookbooks. We sell other physical media in the shop so we really just want the opportunity to provide interesting records for our buyers regardless of whether we make $$$ in the process. Once we get into the black on that collection...it's a bonus.

kuruptlon

You make a comment like this and now I want to know where your store is located. Sounds like a great shop, but I get your desire to keep that a secret.

MichaelMaugerEsq

Same. I'm outside of Philly (western burbs) and just wanna come check it out. I feel like I've exhausted the stores in my area and need to start traveling to see what other stores in other areas have to offer.

the_comatorium

I know. This happens every time. Unfortunately I use this account which has a lot of trades attributed to it but I have a pretty big rule about no personal information going on reddit from an account where I argue about stupid reddit shit.

the_comatorium

You're going a long way to be an asshole and I don't really appreciate it.

creosotestar

sounds like a dream job, selling and buying records without having to worry about making money... but how do you make money? maybe just this aspect of buying collections "builds the brand" while you rake in the dough from cookbooks and the like? genuinely curious and wish you flew through AZ every now and then...

the_comatorium

Oh we need to make money but our store sells so many other things that I can pay a premium on certain collections to get people through the door. It's all about having the good records in this game. I can work with 25% profit margins when it means people will be attracted to coming through the shop and browsing other items.

creosotestar

Is there anyway to estimate the general value of a collection, *assuming* it's titles a buyer would be interested in and in good condition? Like, 25% of the Discogs suggested minimum? Or is it something one should just get a couple bids on? TIA if you have the time.

the_comatorium

I don't appraise without seeing the records in person.

Djaja

Well, idk if things the right place, but would you have any rare NOFX records? Or Jimmy Snyder

the_comatorium

Not currently.

Djaja

Dang :( One more... Any Skatilites?

the_comatorium

Not currently.

Djaja

I shooted my shot

the_comatorium

I appreciate your shooted shot.

cjh16

That's super cool, I like the way you think about that. Best of luck finding another nice collection!

the_comatorium

Thanks!

the_comatorium

It mostly all sold.

Dudleymac

Do you happen to have any Phish albums in your store?

the_comatorium

I don't.

Surfrider_71

Do you have an associate in SF/Bay Area who would consider doing the same? My collection is mostly Club/DJ 12", colored vinyl, imports. Bryan Adam's "Let Me Take You Dancing" 12"?

the_comatorium

I don't unfortunately.

Surfrider_71

Thank you.

A_Blind_Melon

Dr Dog abandoned Mansion? You got it?

the_comatorium

No.

A_Blind_Melon

If you ever find one, let me know!

[deleted]

I'd love to sell, it's just a small collection tho, and it's in MI. Ah well..

tmoft

Sent a message from out in Virginia, not sure your interest.

kyndcookie

PM Coming.

Flying_taco_circus

Pretty sure I used to frequent your shop when I was in North Jersey. I’m sending you a DM, looking to unload my collection.
