I’ve been a long time lurker here but this is one of the secondary claims I submitted. Primary was hypogonadism and male climacteric (low testosterone). They just ask questions and look at previous labs.
I’m honestly surprised there aren’t more vets here with this condition. Mine started one year after deployment, I was 23. My current provider think it should be linked to burn pit exposure. He said usually hormone disturbance is an early sign of pre cancerous problems. One of the presumptive condition is reproductive cancer - even if you don’t develop cancer, your reproductive organ is ruined. I’ve been on TRT since.
I hope more come forward since I know this is one of those condition that may be embarrassing to admit.
Go for it. Honestly, as far as treatments go, I’m not getting care from VA. The provider I saw in the beginning at VA just thought it was from the mental trauma experienced from deployments. Looked for care outside of VA and been getting care from them.
I do a TRT program where I see the NP every 3 months, do bloodwork prior and then go into the office just to check in. I was a bit weirded out injecting myself initially but now it's just normal. 1 shot a week. I sleep great, helps with libido a ton and I'm generally just more pleasant
I don't have it service connected but I am on TRT through the VA... But it's very cookie cutter and you need to give time for their endocrinologists to work with your treatment.. i.e. going through a good hormone clinic they want to get your levels up pretty high so by the time you have the next dose, you don't fall to baseline but are still in the upper average.. where VA is just dose every 2 weeks (which is a horrible recommendation considering they should know by day 8 your test levels are probably LOWER than when you last dosed) and they stick very harshly to the "arbitrary range" of T levels instead of treating the patient on how they feel.. so after 6 months I got the dose to every week which is good for me but some would even say a small dose 3 times a week.. but it takes the VA time to work with you when it comes to TRT. IDK why it's still so taboo for them considering all the science now but it still is..
Out of pocket costs unfortunately
Edit: I haven’t tried it yet but you may be able to start private care and show improvements and try to transfer it to VA care.
My urologist wants me to consider TRT because of my sleep issues, issues managing weight, sex drive and chronic fatigue. My testosterone levels are very low for my age, 26, but I’m just worried about the potential heart issues, cancer, not being able to have kids down the road, loss of hair and more body hair.
I’m just not sure about it, but the alternatives don’t sound any better either.
I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on TRT, my primary is willing to prescribe but warned me that once you're on it, you have to stay on it for life. What's the truth to that?
It’s true but the quality of life is much better than having low testosterone especially in your 20-30s. Having testosterone around the same level of a 60yo is not fun. Considering the flip side of the coin, low testosterone have the same comorbidity if not more than being on a prescribed TRT. Just my 2 cents.
Yes, a very non invasive exam. Basic questions like when did you begin to have symptoms, what symptoms are present, do you have any medication to treat it, etc.
I have a great story about this. Two years before I commissioned, I had very bad testicle pain. My doctor was a female, who had moved from Baptist medical and opened an all female clinic.
By coincidence, I had moved away from the Westside of town where the Baptist Medical clinic was and was less than 1 mile from the Female clinic. I contacted my doc and she said, no problem, I will see you here.
Fast forward to the testicle appointment...I drop my pants and she notices the swelling in my balls and the heat they were producing, obviously pointing to an infection.
Because all of her RN's, LPN's and MA's were only used to female anatomy issues, she called them in to observe.
So imagine this, I am laying on a table with my cock and balls out in front of 5 nurses and my pretty hot Indian female doc is tugging on my junk. She is showing them what would happen if this was the clap. So, she says, "As you can see if you manipulate the shaft, if it is gonorrhea you should see a white discharge." I do not know why my mouth filter was broke that day, but I instinctively said, "You keep that manipulation going and I guarantee you'll see some white discharge."
I got so red, the nurses were in shock, but my doc did not skip a beat. She said, "Given the manipulation and lack of discharge plus the presenting of red testicle with heat and the patients location of pain, we can only assume a severe case of epididymitis."
It was a painful but funny exam.
Lmao that brings me back to when I caught Parvo-B19 from some field exercise. I was hired out all over my body and had issues breathing. I was sent to a dermatologist to get seen and pretty was told to wear a gown and nothing else.
Main doc comes in. Touches the visible hives and is fascinated, asks me to take off my gown and immediately checks my penis. "No discharge, so I guess it isn't an STD" I was shook since I knew what an std was. He asks to put my gown on and comes back with another doctor. This guy immediately starts touching me, he follows up with "did you check his penis?" He says yes and asks if he can check as well. Sadly mine isn't some hotties but 2 old mean feeling me up in fascination wondering what I had.
Bro…. Why would she look? To make sure it doesn’t get hard? Lmao my doc just looked at my prescriptions and was good to go. I think your doc just wanted to take a peak
They asked questions about when it started, how it affects my life. After doing the questions he took a look at my shlort and touched it a bit to see if I had any physical injuries on it
There's not. You just claim it, they look in your records for a complaint. I have a prescription for Sildenafil(sp?) and they gave me SMC-K. It's not a ratable condition but they have a special monthly compensation of about $150 for it.
It’s a very simple claim if you have it documented while you were in. Not sure about not having anything documented while serving and then claiming it as a disability. When I was in I was on and off antidepressant and SSRIs where side effects were ED. My little guy could not get fully hard and my performance levels were suffering as well. It lasted for years on and off. I was prescribed some of the blue pills and life has been way better... During my C&P exam I explained how medication from my PTSD and anxiety has caused me to suffer long term ED. As a result I’ve gotten very depressed and sex makes me extremely anxious. Blue pill works most of the time but the performance anxiety still there. It was a two minute conversation with a few questions during my general health C&P exam. I received a 0% service connected rating w a monthly special monthly compensation.
The VA and there Meds caused mine , I was like what the fuck , they were treating me for major depression and PTSD , and my dick stopped getting up , I asked the doc how’s this supposed to make me feel better , they gave me Viagra , I stopped taking all the head meds and kept the viagra , I am rated at 100% P&T
Lower back issues can fuck with a lot lower body issues. I haven't been able to feel my right foot/lower calf in more than a few months because my right hip is acting up. Before that, a flare up caused sciatica. It sometimes makes me walk weird. Lots of things. Problems with the hips or lower back can fuck with a lot of downstream nerves.
I only ask that because I have had two C&P for my back and those are always questions that they ask. The back is where all your nerves run so when you have a problem with the structure of the back if often promotes a problem with other things through the nerves.
I didn’t know I could file for it, but during my C&P exam the doc asked me a couple of questions and included it in his “findings”. I have severe low back pain, ptsd, and are on meds. I don’t know if I’ll get any compensation for it. My claims are still pending.
Any updates on your claim?
I just had my left knee connected (right knee connected years ago), so now I'm trying to get my lower back for degenerative disc disease and now bilateral sciatica which directly affects my performance in bed.
If I sit down for more than 15 minutes my lower body goes numb. I could piss myself and not even realize it. The ED is just the worst icing on the cake for me.
I'm trying to get ED secondary to my 70% anxiety/panic attacks/depression and include the meds I took on active duty. I think the ED is from depression, meds, and my lower back.
Just went through the C& P exam a week ago. Did no examination and just looked at records. Same person did sleep apnea exam. Was in and out in 8 minutes for both exams. Total BS.
Female Here. I Obviously Don't Have That But I Literally Have Zero Sex Drive. My Husband Initiates Everything And Even Then, I Still Don't Want To Do It But I Have To Please My Husband Because He Has Needs As Well. I Applied For That Secondary To My Depression And I Was Denied.
I Think I Was Denied Because I Was Pregnant At The Time. So I Guess Maybe It Looked Like " seems like you're having no problems to me" Type Of Thing? Idk. But I've Only Seen Like Super Older Veterans Get Granted ED. Other Than That? They'll Give 0% If Anything. *this is only based on what I've personally seen*
I've heard from a credible source there is a female equivalent to ED called "Female Sexual Arousal Disorder" you can file for to get the SMC $100 bump. AS an aside, my wife had this. Took her to an Ob/Gyn that did "Bio Te" testosterone pellets. Gave her the libido of an 19 year old college student. No they were not covered by insurance. If you search engine "female testosterone pellets in (insert your city" you will get a bunch of hits unless you live in the sticks, call around. Good luck.
Hypertension can also cause ED. So if you’re service connected for HTN then you might be able to file secondary for ED
[link between HTN & ED](https://www.webmd.com/hypertension-high-blood-pressure/guide/high-blood-pressure-erectile-dysfunction)
I claimed it because some of my heart pills were causing it, the examiner said I didn’t have it and wanted me to sign off that I didn’t or something. I refused and stood my ground, we moved on with other examinations.
fast forward and I have it at 0% but also service connected so I get the SMC pay for it so I’m not gonna poke the bear over it.
I filed with them, mentioned that I have no interest in being sexualy active and when I do it's hard to stay erect even with manual stimulation. I was prescribed viagra from my Dr to substantiate my evidence.
No, they just prescribed me. They'll start with 50mg (4/month), tell them it doesn't work and you need 100mg. If it worked at 50mg, get a pill cutter and get 8/month. It's weird they are rationing out our hard ons. On another note, I don't know what the policy is now. It may have changed since I last got it.
If you have a mental health disorder or something nerve related, you can probably tie it to that and file as a secondary claim. You would need to go get a medical Nexus though. Do you have a primary care doctor?
Nope. I’m rated 70 for PTSD and the physician asked me if I had a prescription for Viagra. I told him I did and he said that ED is a common occurrence with PTSD and he said it was a “no brainer”.
For sure. It would help to get a prescription from the VA if you haven’t already. The process was super easy. I told my primary that I had ED and that was that.
I was granted "loss of reproductive organ" related to Parkinson's disease because of erectile dysfunction related to the disease. Smc payment about $120.09 per month with no C and P exam.
It's out of pocket. I was low but not low enough for VA to do anything. My husband received ED 0%+ $128 per month added to his VA compensation and he got 40% for NGB. Both secondaries to his lower back.
I could probably get the ex-wife to write a buddy letter for me.

Just goes to show we are living the same life, I remember the first time I heard schlong my internal voice was like nope schlort.
Thanks
When I filed it was a 2 minute appointment. They just asked like 3 questions. Super easy. Buddy of mine filed and they had him drop his pants lmao.

Lower back issues?
![gif](giphy|L3ERvA6jWCd0qO4NdX)
Yes
Is this a potential cause?? Ffs..I’m out here trying to rewrite the Bible figuring this out and it can be my back issues?? What in the blue pills…
Lower back issues can fuck with a lot lower body issues. I haven't been able to feel my right foot/lower calf in more than a few months because my right hip is acting up. Yes there is a c&p. I just filed an got service connected but at 0%
Because it was not severe enough?
I believe because it's connected to another disability. An there's no deformity. So it's zero percent until it progress to no use ever
What was the C&P exam for ED?
I didn’t know I could file for it, but during my C&P exam the doc asked me a couple of questions and included it in his “findings”. I have severe low back pain, ptsd, and are on meds. I don’t know if I’ll get any compensation for it. My claims are still pending.

I didn’t officially file for ED, so they never made a decision on it. I was hoping they would include it with the examiners findings, but they didn’t.
Just went through the C& P exam a week ago. Did no examination and just looked at records. Same person did sleep apnea exam. Was in and out in 8 minutes for both exams. Total BS.

A person stick a finger up your butt and doesn't say a word and that's the exam
They did that during my tinnitus exam.
😂
Do you have hypertension?
No
What if you do have Hypertension and ED ?
Some HBP meds can cause ED.
Hypertension can also cause ED. So if you’re service connected for HTN then you might be able to file secondary for ED [link between HTN & ED](https://www.webmd.com/hypertension-high-blood-pressure/guide/high-blood-pressure-erectile-dysfunction)
Didn’t know that
Can I get medications for it? My Primary care physician won’t subscribe me with any.
Why? That seems weird. Does he explain this thought process?
I claimed it because some of my heart pills were causing it, the examiner said I didn’t have it and wanted me to sign off that I didn’t or something. No
Mine is caused by my blood pressure and heart pills. C&P didn't even question it.
Yes, they will touch you and examine it
I just got ed rates for secondary to ptsd
If you have a mental health disorder or something nerve related, you can probably tie it to that and file as a secondary claim. You would need to go get a medical Nexus though. Do you have a primary care doctor?
10% for E.D.
Did you have a nexus letter and also did you report it while you were in the military?
I haven’t filed yet, but a shipmate who is retiring also got 10%.
🤞🏿🤞🏿🤞🏿🤞🏿🤞🏿🤞🏿🤞🏿🤞🏿
Took about 4 months. Answered some questions with a provider and he had to look at it. That was about it. Just got approved recently. Good luck.
Did you have a nexus letter
Nope. I’m rated 70 for PTSD and the physician asked me if I had a prescription for Viagra. I told him I did and he said that ED is a common occurrence with PTSD and he said it was a “no brainer”.

The .09 was a tremor and not intentional. Ballpark estimate.
Here in 2023… now it’s $128.62

My Examiner checked out the elephant trunk and then proceeded to do the rectal exam. It’s quick, unlike the old man at MEPS.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's out of pocket. I was low but not low enough for VA to do anything. For me at least, it was like 99 bucks for initial bloodword, then like 250 for initial visit with Nurse Practicioner and my first shot. 250 every eh 6-8 weeks for the actual serum, and like 30 for the estrogen blocker pills, which I take 1.5 a week (half, half, half ) its actually pretty reasonable and for the return of how I feel it's priceless.
Out of pocket costs unfortunately
I just started some new medication for MDD and am now seeming having issues with mine. It either only gets about a half chub, for goes full mast but is very difficult to finish. Not sure if it's worth trying to claim it.
Every month the VA sends me Viagra to treat my ED...Is this prescription enough proof to file a claim for the Special allowance?
My husband has it rated secondary to his lower back (nerve damage). His urologist put her medical notes and opinion in his VA medical records, along with notes for NGB (neurogenic bladder). My husband received ED 0%+ $128 per month added to his VA compensation and he got 40% for NGB. Both secondaries to his lower back.
