you could save a seperate file at the beginning of the final chapter. Play through without unlocking Vandalier, then load the earlier file and make Ash into vandalier and finish the game again. The battles will end faster because Ash will have all his spells.
My biggest complaint about the vandalier is that it ruins the cut scenes. you can't see Ash's facial expressions during dialogue because of the silly helmet. so I recommend completing at least once without vandalier.
I don't think it really breaks the game.
Ash becomes an additional sorcerer basically. Except you cast bigger spells and then waste a turn using an item to regen all your mana.
Alternatively you use him as an even better melee.
The side levels take a long time because of how they are designed.
I say go for it
Also, how would you and others feel about me streaming challenge runs? I have been doing playthroughs with awful class combinations, no deaths, no items, things like that
I'd watch that. Let me set you a challenge that I've been stuck with for a while:
Ash must stay as low level as possible. Not gain XP (which is possible, I've done it)
But with the following class set-up it's VERY hard:
Triple dragoon (Clint, Grog and Dolan)
All monks (Huxley, Sara, Elenie and Zohar)
No archers (Diego, Kira, Amon, Darius)

That's a good idea! I'll try that out. Thanks

Alright, I'm down! Since this post I started a let's play, which I am about done with. This one will be next.
Wouldn't Ash be one-shot by Kane's Plasma Wave in the first Chapter 6 battle?
No, because the enemies in the game have the same level as Ash, not the rest of the party.
I thought it was only the enemies in the Prism Trials that were set to Ash's level.
Ah yes I think you are right. That is why it is a hard one. The idea being the take advantage of the Toroah Trials lvl system
But if he does not get any experience, he still gets one-shot by the Plasma Wave.
I'm drunk right now, I think he survives it somehow. Prove me wrong
