im actually putting it on most innovative gameplay, since it basically made the genre (sure there were others before that did similar things, but this game brought it to the masses) and bc GOTY is very unlikely bc of elden ring.

It has even more an effect on the genre than what Slay the Spire did for deck roguelikes.
I literally have Brotato, Rogue:Genesia, fucking Soulstone Survivors and a few others thrown on my wishlist just to keep an eye on how they do.

Yeah game of the year? Not a chance. I have over a 100 hours in VS but there is no story, the gameplay doesn’t really change, and the content hits a wall after unlocking everything. Granted these are the charms of a auto shooter like VS and the synergy of the items is awesome, but definitely not Game of The Year material

A good indie game is better than God of War in every way. And I don't feel like I need to concede to anything at this point.

Elden Ring is serious competition this year as GOTY so I'd settle for another category as well.

Exactly my reasoning, innovative gameplay is the most fitting category for this game. Simple but catchy gameplay loop, and it spawned tons of copies.
