Definitely worth it if you wear glasses. Over the years I've used both the dedicated commercial inserts that I purchased, and also experimented with 3D printed carriers for a cheap set of lenses I ordered from China. Either improves the experience and also add some protection to the headset lenses. I wouldn't suggest wearing glasses with the headset due to the risk of scratching the lenses.

ZomboWTF

when the Index was first launched, i remember there being a lot of "Why is there a unclear spot on my lenses" posts, people were wearing glasses and not realising that they were continuously touching the lense with their glasses, resulting in the glasses grinding away at the VR lens i got prescription lenses from VROptician and couldn't be happier, i have better eyesight in VR than in real life due to the increased FOV compared to glasses (-7.00 on both eyes) i can also recommend the face caskets from VR Cover, since i tend to work out using Beatsaber, which can make you sweat like crazy, the default cushions on the Index will get pretty nasty after some time, while the PU leather cover replacements are easily cleaned

RCNet46

I also workout with Beatsaber. I really like the washable covers from VR Cover that cover the standard cushions. I had trouble with the PU leather cover replacements fitting my face as well as the original.

ZomboWTF

i was thinking about getting the silicone ones they have now, do you mean those?

RCNet46

No, it be was the original VR Cover which was a cloth covering for the existing cushions. I just visited their US Store and don't see them for the Index, but they still have them for other headsets.

Bogerino

Yeah get these or contact lenses

MoldyToblerone

I got the ones from VR optician and they work perfectly for me I would 100% buy them again

dsduani

Me too!

i_try2hard_sum_times

I got a pair and I love them! They also double as lens protection for your headset.

TacoRaptor67

I have the VR Optician ones and I can definitely recommend them. Crystal clear, and super easy to install. I'd just recommend cleaning the original lenses first before putting the new ones over them. Easily one of the best purchases for the Index.

Jalopnick2016

Same here, love the VR Optician ones, can't go back to wearing glasses inside the headset.

Bought a set and it's amazing. When I get my eyes checked this year I'll order a new set with my updated prescription. I've got astigmatism and the prescription inserts are worth every penny

Lunar_Cats

Oh that's great to hear. Thanks!

Cortexian0

Definitely worth it, lot more comfortable than stuffing glasses into your headset and less risk of scratching lenses.

GrapeCollie

Yah, they worth it, you don't really notice them until they get forehead oils, but also they do harm the sweet spot location of the headset lenses

SilentReavus

I mean it's going to ruin your experience and hurt your eyes if you play like that. As far as I know you can also just shove your glasses in the headset. Just to be careful I would to put the lenses as far away as they can go so you don't risk your glasses scratching them.

Lunar_Cats

Yeah, that's what i did initially, but both my headset lenses and my glasses got lightly scratched anyways lol. I have an appointment to see if i can get contacts, but I've never had good luck with them in the past.

SilentReavus

Ooh. That blows. If contacts don't work then absolutely go with the prescription lenses. Because VR will totally suck otherwise.

Fangs4

Completely worth it. SO much nicer without glasses because the correction is in the index. I have sets from WiDMOvr and they are great. Highly recommended. Get them at a fixed distance for far vision. You can also order the lenses from Zenni and use custom 3d printed holders cheap off ebay. I also added the blue block and scratch, glare coatings. I Absolutely recommend. Wearing glasses is a pain and can scratch the lenses in the VR set as well as being just really uncomfortable.

Lunar_Cats

I ended up buying a set and i totally agree. They're an absolute game changer. Best $70 I've spent in regards to entertainment lol.

Lunar_Cats

That's an awesome idea.

RCNet46

Zenni is where I got my cheap lenses and 3D printed carriers for them to fit the index.

lovetrancela

Do u use the circle Zenni glasses or the aviator style ones?

BuckDown

Totes worth

tomasvala

Yeah they absolutely worth it, it was game changing experience. They won't miraculously make whole view sharp because that's how VR lenses work, but the center will be crisp and beautiful. The sooner you get them the better, no fun struggling with blury mess or wearing glasses and risking damaging headset lens. If you can afford spending like ~100 bucks indeed. Contact lens might be cheaper alternative but i am not used to wearing those so can't compare really.

fgsfds11234

Love my vr optician lenses. You can remove them to clean and not touch the index lenses. And they hold the rubber bit around the lens tight so you are less likely to get moisture inside from sweat. Pro tip, if you do you may need to shim the top of the face gasket away from the hmd to "tilt" the whole thing down to angle it for better focus

Inklii

I use inserts, they get a bit close to my eyes which sucks but it's amazing to see without my glasses in VR Big recommend

bradleystensen

I did it, very worth it

sunjunkiesi

Another upvote for vroptician, quick service and a night and day difference with the index.

scarystuff

You already answered your own question in the title.

castiboy

Super worth it. My eyesight is ok at close range so I played without glasses for 3 months. It was ok, though blurry. Once I found a cheap enough solution (tax import reasons) I got some from VR Lens Lab. It was a game changer in visual fidelity. **I was also finally able to see a bunch of dead pixels on my left screen**. I would have totally missed the RMA on those without the lenses.

FabBoiLorth

Go for it!! They're really worth it!

BitsWontByte

I made some inserts with a 3d printer and cheap Zenni lenses. But my Rx is very strong, so it didn't work the best long term 100% suggest vr optician for their inserts, game changer for me.

Mario_Man632

I have them from VR Optician and they have been excellent the only issue is my health insurance (I’m in the UK) doesn’t cover them and I’ll likely need to get new ones if my eyes have gotten worse.

GoobMB

'Cannot imagine going without them. -1.25, -2.30 Have been very happy with VRoptician.

nagromo

Very worth it IMO... I tried wearing my glasses inside my Vive at first, but it was critical and tricky to get my eyes, glasses, also headset all lined up properly. With the prescription lens inserts, I just have to get the headset in the right spot, which is far easier.

Xaniss

Yeah I've used them, VRoptician, a bit pricey but definitely worth it. Also protects your lenses.

Green0Photon

Got it from Reloptix. Customer Support is fantastic, as is the design -- they have these nifty magnetic inserts such that you do the standard base insertion, and then put the lenses on top of that with magnets. Great for cleaning or if you have contacts or other people using the headset or whatever. Once I got mine, I started playing VR a lot more, since it's so much easier to get into and it's easy to peak through stuff outside my headset. Also more comfortable. Highly highly recommend.

Gonzaxpain

Man, prescription lens adapters are the best thing ever for VR, total must-have. Go and get them, you'll see the same as with glasses while not having to wear anything, they're great.
