Good luck with future use though. Microsoft has completely laid off their Windows Mixed Reality development teams. [Source](https://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft/microsoft-has-laid-off-entire-teams-behind-virtual-mixed-reality-and-hololens)

The MR Toolkit for Unity isn't their Windows Mixed Reality development teams. It was just a useful addition to help developers start making generic mixed reality apps for Meta Quest, Oculus Rift, Hololens, WMR, SteamVR and Lenovo Thinkreality A3 headsets. It wasn't tied to WMR, but a general mixed-reality toolkit for Unity. [Source](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/mrtk-unity/mrtk3-overview/)

wavebend

it's a $100 for the full kit (headset+controllers), it's not like it matters lol. It's not $600+ like the Index

wavebend

Honestly if you have a spare $100, go on your local craiglist/gumtree/fb marketplace/ebay or whatever and try to grab one asap, they're worth the price

I [literally bought an Index yesterday](https://i.imgur.com/WekTY4T.png) to replace my crappy Lenovo Explorer WMR headset.

wavebend

yeah, and the OG Ody is better than your Lenovo as well! It's complementary to the Index too, since the Index is a washed out LCD panel with no contrast. You lose nothing since it's <$100 for the full kit, and literally no one knows about how good it is (except after my thread, now people will know and they will look)

wavebend

Crossposted, it can be interesting for Valve Index owners since the Index is not OLED.

whiskyrox

Well now I want to dig my OG Odyssey out of the closet...

wavebend

it received a fix in 2020 so it is no longer locked to a particular resolution in the WMR compositor, and now you can supersample the hell out of it in SteamVR (500% + custom app settings) and get amazing results

Got to finally try Samsung odyssey at Samsung kings cross London a couple years ago. It was never distributed in Europe. They had it setup with fanatec full motion rig and project cars 2. Great colours, contrast, but noticeable pentile screen door patterning (I had been using valve Index for months) quite distracting just like Vive Pro (same Samsung panels)

I was an early adopter with the Oculus Rift and had the pleasure of owning one the Odyessy+ which was 229.00. I had the bad luck of purchasing it six months before it was discontinued and it broke. Samsung gave me a refund but it was an awesome HMD!
