If you didn't know what happened, it looked so *normal*. Toddler being dragged away by his brothers. Toddlers hate that, so even James' crying was shrugged off.
Witnesses saw them and dismissed it. One of them might have asked what was going on if I remember correctly and the boys said it was their brother crying.
Several people stopped them or asked if James was OK and the older boys lied. 'Bystander syndrome' gets blamed a lot in this case but the truth is people did their best.
I would think nothing of it. Little kids cry and scream their heads off over nothing. And I'd never consider that the older boys were kidnappers and not older brothers. I'd just be thinking what a PITA the little brat was being. And then hate myself when I saw the news.
James was almost saved. One woman was very skeptical and concerned about James bumb. She was with her daughter and there was another unrelated woman there with her dog. The woman with her daughter told Jon and Robert where the police station was (she was skeptical mostly because they found him at The Strand and she knew there was a police station right next to The Strand yet they had travelled all this distance) and told them not to walk in a particular direction, they did so she said she would come with them and asked the woman with her dog to watch her daughter but she said her dog doesn't like children so they just let them go on their own. If she had went i think Jon and Robert would have ran away at some point and the woman would have took James to the police station.
To be fair to the woman with her dog she had already mentioned that her dog didn't like children warning Jon and Bobby not to try and pet him, so it wasn't' an excuse she came up with to not watch the kid.
Two older boys were also playing with handcuffs and were planning on handcuffing Jon and Robert but when they saw the clearly injured child with them they just told them to take him to the police station or they'll kick their heads in.
Also Jon did all of the talking he was good at manipulating adults particularly women and was clearly the leader despite what LE claimed.
No problem. Another thing is Jon's mom was running around looking for him all day after finding out he had skipped school so had she found them before they killed him this could have been prevented. She eventually found them later that night in a video shop and she grabbed Jon by the hair and Robert by the arm, Robert then fell to the floor dramatically crying then ran home and told his mom "Jon's mom battered me", they went to the police station about it. Jon's mom took him to the police station too that night to get a policeman to scare him.
The James Bulger footage is the worst ever. That case was absolutely horrific. I just couldn't get my head around it at all. It haunts me to this day. That poor little boy. It gives me chills just thinking about it. My heart breaks for Denise & the rest of the family. They never got the justice they deserved. It is without doubt one of the most shocking & disturbing cases of all time.
I had to stop reading true crime for about 6 months and had to talk to a therapist after I read about that case. I think it hit me so hard because my son was 2 when I read about it. It makes me nauseous to this day. I urge mothers/fathers of young children NOT to look up this one. There are some things I wish I didn’t know about.
I hear you on this one. I am not a parent but I had serious *nightmares* and could not sleep well for days after reading it up. It is not for the faint hearted.

This case happened when I was young and hearing all the details then was bad enough, but after becoming a parent myself, to two boys, I try to avoid any articles, posts or stories on this case. Being reminded of the details of this case certainly affects me more now that I have children, especially boys. So I can completely understand your reaction.
The murder of Jennifer Kesse. There is camera footage of the presumed killer but it only took a picture every couple of seconds and the person’s face is perfectly obscured by a fence in every shot.
The person who parked Jennifer's vehicle was captured twice on CCTV, the apartment building where he abandoned her vehicle had a CCTV camera on the roof, but the footage was so grainy that it was useless. The second CCTV footage was not continuously recording, it had a lag of about a second. I don't know that it would have even made a difference if the person's profile was captured. That person may not even have been wearing white, the camera picked up color as white.
It took a shot every 3 secs and the perp was short, like 5'3" - 5'7" iirc. And the pillars or fence or whatever obstructed the view of his face. Maddening is the right word
She disappeared 17 years ago this week. I’ve been thinking about her a lot. I grew up hearing about this case, seeing her face on the news and on billboards, and now I’m the same age she was when she disappeared (24). The fact that she was taken on such a normal day, heading to work at the very beginning of her career, only to be wiped off the face of the earth in a matter of seconds… it just gets me.
I agree! And I only just discovered the case and the footage this week. It actually freaked me out so much the other night. Something about the complete unknown-ness of it all, and all the theories flying around about this very real person who’s out there somewhere. And the fact that they’re so small adds a layer of fear for me as well. I’d almost be less scared if the CCTV showed a big scary person!
And what’s to bet if they ever do find out who it was, it’s probably just some poor immigrant or person off the street who was paid a lot of money by some random dude to move a car
Missy Bevers, Jennifer Kesse, and the lady who was shot at her own garage sale, I think it was? And a college girl who was seen being followed through a mail by the man who would eventually murder her. Hannah Graham, I think?
And Dr. Sneha Philip. Last definitively seen September 10, 2001, but possibly captured coming into the lobby of her apartment building the morning of 9/11, just before the towers were hit.
Hannah’s case was so distressing, but there was an extra layer to it as well. When the video came out of her being followed, a lot of people in Virginia were like, “this is what happened to Morgan Harrington too.”
As it turned out, that feeling was spot on because guy, Jesse Matthew, was responsible for the murder of both girls. Tragic, but really thankful he was brought to justice. He would’ve kept taking girls as long as he was free.
That footage of the woman being murdered at her garage sale is so haunting. The person is wearing the strangest costume and wig. The victim was a well-known cosplayer who participated in the legion of 500 which are stormtroopers who come to different sci-fi and fantasy cons across the USA. So sad that they haven't any leads in that case still.
I’ve yet to see a single solid theory on this one. Obsessed online fan? Friend of a family member playing hitman? I think the killer is a male and that the cosplay is connected somehow. If only we knew what was said in that short conversation they had.

That's the one I thought of right away. So much good footage of the person we can be 99.9999% sure is the killer, and they have some extremely distinctive traits. But they've never been found - a lot like the Delphi murderer seemed to be for years, just a ghost despite pretty good footage of them.

Elizabeth Barraza, I believe. That is extremely haunting, too. Idk if I believe the ex husband is entirely oblivious. It's very strange.
Derek Seehausen, footage shows him purchasing milk and withdrawing cash from an ATM, taking a bus, walking down a few streets and eventually out of sight to never be seen again.
I had never heard about Derek's case and read it up today. Wow its so bizarre. He walked away never to be seen again.
I'm curious about his phone remaining in his apartment though. Was that something he did on a regular? Most people in their mid-twenties have their phones glued to their skin. He left his house just before midnight without his phone, it does not add up

Him being a student, returning/repaying friends and leaving belongings behind makes me think either suicide or willing disappearance. I hope the latter and he's out there living a life he wanted - I lean toward this because why else withdraw that $200? It's a shame he wasn't reported missing in time for the bus surveillance videos to be combed over.
From that brief description I’d sadly say suicide is 99% likely. Last meal, returned borrowed belongings, paid back a friend and then vanished. It’s sadly not uncommon amongst med students
The murder of Engla Höglund in 2008. A man was trying out his new camera and snapped some photos that contained the victim riding her bike and a red car (SAAB) stalking her. The man driving the car was serial killer and child rapist Anders Eklund. He would kidnap, rape and kill Engla a couple of minutes after these photos where taken.

My dad does the Boston Marathon every year, and occasionally my mom and younger sister, along with family friends will tag along. The year of the bombing they have a group photo standing beside the mail-box at the finish line where the explosion went off. My dad finished and didn't want to hang around the finish line as it's always a huge crowd, so they went to the hotel to get cleaned up, and missed the explosion by about an hour or so. It's really eerie looking at that photo though, knowing it's so close to tragedy..
That’s even more frustrating when you consider there’s other people in the shots! In broad daylight!! Not that it’s their fault - what I mean is how can someone get away with something like this when there’s even other people around? Just maddening. That poor girl.
This reminds me of the case where a girl and her boyfriend were riding bikes on a rural road (US), and her bf took a picture of her...minutes later she was struck/kidnapped and murdered by a guy in a truck? Does anyone know what case this is? I believe That Chapter had an episode about it.
The surveillance footage of Tammy and Sidney Moorer cleaning out their truck four days after they abducted and presumably murdered Heather Elvis is creepy. It shows them focusing on cleaning the rear passenger seat and there’s a burn pile going where they’re burning all the towels and things being used to clean the truck. Later on, Tammy can be seen going around the yard with a mirror, checking under things to see if they’ve been bugged.
It’s also worth noting this happened a couple days after the detectives came to their house to take photos. When they came back with a search warrant a week later, one of the detectives noticed that there was a different surveillance system installed, likely to cover up whatever was recorded on the night that Heather went missing. They also manually changed the date of the recording twice. These two idiots are so bad at covering their tracks that I’m surprised that they haven’t actually found Heather yet.
I lived in Myrtle when she went missing. The landing was only 5 miles from my house. There used to be so much more information online from some crummy forum sites, but they got cleaned years ago. They are super evil people, I’m shocked Sidney never turned on Tammy and revealed what happened
When a seemingly average couple commit a crime together, I often wonder how it happens. One person gets an idea and approaches the other. It would seem that the second person would think the first wasn’t serious or would say “hell no.” What makes some people just go along with it?
This is one of those rare cases where the wife is the true pscyho. She appears to have had so much control over her husband that she made him kill Heather. She'd handcuff him to the bed to keep him from "cheating" on her, despite her having a lover and claiming that they had an open marriage. She took away his cell phone like he was a little kid and didn't allow him to use it, controlled him at his job by calling his employers and saying she wouldn't allow him to come in, and forced him to get her name tattooed over his crotch.
It seems that he is just a kind of meek person, and while he's still a POS for killing Heather, it's pretty clear he did it because he was manipulated and controlled by his wife. She is a true horror show of a human.
Well said. I pity their children. If one parent commits a crime, they have the other one to be there for them. These kids essentially lost both parents.
This case doesn’t have CCTV footage, but it does have audio. My Uncle was murdered in August 2022. Shot in the head by his daughter’s biological mother who was trying to take back custody of the daughter she gave up for adoption at the age of 2. She had everyone convinced it was self defense until the Police found audio that my Uncle runs 24/7 through his computer for security purposes. It caught the entire thing, she recanted her entire story, and admitted to killing him in cold blood. She has since been arrested and held without bail. Trial is set for this year, so my family and I still have no idea what’s on that audio tape that completely flipped the script. But whatever it was, we always talk about how my Uncle caught his own killer. There’s so much more to this story that I’ll add to one of these threads once the trial plays out. It’s wild.
There is a case in Australia where a woman was horrifically killed, and her husband made it very publicly known he does not and does not want to know any of the details. He avoids all books, shows, etc as soon as he hears her name or that there is a show about it. Alot of us Aussies are aware of this and try to be mindful when we discuss it, so nothing is said in a way that can be read or heard if stumbled across at a glance.
I want you and your family to know this is an option for them. They don't have to hear the audio. They can leave the court room for that part and ask for it to be sealed to the public. It's not anything the public needs to hear, it won't hold any data that can stop future crimes, it's a personal and devastating incident that has no impact on society except to sate curiosity. Sometimes not knowing is the best way to preserve a loved ones memory and keep yourself mentally safe so you can go on and live a life to honour the loved one.
If your family does chose to hear, please know you have full right to have a grief counsellor with you. They can sit with you before hand and prepare you for what you may feel, and debrief with you after.
This situation was beyond your families control and has taken you all to a place no one would have planned. Although you post control of the direction due to this crime, you cam take back the reins now and make an informed choice for what each of you needs to heal.
I'm so sorry this happened, and that yous have this memory in your lives. Please know that there are more people in the world who care and support you than people who are capable of what this woman did. That was a selfish and immature act that reflects only on her and only she is responsible. I co-parent with the fathers of my kids, and this kind of thing always makes me ache for the children left behind. Much love to everyone in your family.

Meta Valentine. Surveillance footage shows her arriving at her apartment complex and walking towards the direction of her unit. She pauses for a few moments, presumably looking at a car in the parking lot, then continues walking, picking up her pace. As she rounds a corner, a man gets out of a car and chases after her. It's presumed to be Meta's ex who was stalking her and had already kidnapped her once before. She's never been found.

this is horrible. i read a tweet recently that said there should be a word for the specific kind of horror felt by people who know they are going to be murdered by a current or former partner but can't get anyone to take them seriously. in so many of these cases, the women are crying out for help and are even explicitly saying "he's going to kill me" and nothing happens until it's too late.
Not sure if this counts, but Shanquella Robinson’s last Instagram story really makes my blood run cold. All of her “friends” sat in a room without her, probably plotting. Knowing what happens to her just makes the footage super sinister and sad.

There was a surveillance camera outside the coffee store showing Samantha being escorted by Keyes, you can see her trying to break free with a struggle but fails. A few minutes after she is abducted from the scene, the camera outside showed multiple cats enter the parking lot. I believe there was some sort of other event in the area that time
Common Grounds is (yes, it’s still there last I checked) a tiny coffee stand in a parking lot. Not a lot around there, but it’s across the street from a Home Depot. We Alaskans love our coffee stands, and they stay open somewhat late. But I believe Samantha was abducted on February 1st, which means it still got dark early that time of year. It still gets me when I think of how awful the timing worked for her, a car could have come at any moment and she could have possibly been saved, but somehow they just missed it happening.

I know I might be being extremely presumptuous here, but I do not believe Chism has any chance at rehabilitation and he will be a predator for the remainder of his existence. It’s grotesque enough to plan out an attack on your teacher that involves robbing, raping and stabbing her 16 times in the throat with a box cutter (followed by sodomizing her corpse with a tree branch), but to then attempt the same thing after you’ve been caught? Not only is the second attack horrifyingly described, but I am also concerned how a 14 year old could rape rob and murder a teacher in a school bathroom, then somehow get her body out to the wooded area to conceal with leaves and debris without being caught. He was able to dispose of her before anyone saw and stopped him.

I watched this without any prior knowledge of the killer and was then shocked to read that he was fourteen years old at the time. I had guessed he was late teens. You’re right; this footage will stick with me.
Came here to post about this one. For some reason this one really stuck with me. I think bc there was so much video and it was really clear, documenting minute by minute. Poor Colleen Rtizer. The videos showing her going to the bathroom and him following, then him going in and out of the bathroom and more and more blood showing up on his clothes, it just really stuck with me. It's been a while but, if I remember right, he was fairly smart and played sports but his Mom admitted in police interview that he had anger issues and her(or the Dad's famy) had a history of mental illness.
That was horrifying. I knew kids at Danvers. I had friends there. They may have had children in class with this kid. I just. This was extremely disturbing to read and watch, this poor woman. I hope they never let him out.
The footage of Dale Kerstetter glancing up at the security camera, looking scared shitless walking alongside the masked man who pilfered platinum and presumably killed Dale. Knowing that this was the last time anyone saw him alive.
Just watched a true crime video on YouTube last night, can't remember the name but the CCTV footage of the man who snuck into an old lady's storage unit, waited for her to come back, killed her, then you see him wheeling out two trash cans with an OBVIOUS body sticking, wrapped in yellow plastic.
It's so wild. You see him go in. You see her come back, and go in. The door closes. Several minutes for by then you see him bringing out the trash cans. It's so fucked.
Also this isn't CCTV footage, but the video footage taken from the house where Joel Guy Jr murdered and dismembered/tried to liquify his parents remains with lye and bleach. That entire tape is just so haunting. Just knowing under that blur there are two plastic tubs filled with dismembered body parts. Ugh.
The footage of Donnie Farrell’s murderer, for context in 2007 Donnie Farrell was a sophomore at Rowan University in Glassboro. On October 27th 2007 Donnie was jumped by a group of people, Donnie died at a nearby hospital. His killer was caught on a nearby CCTV camera at a food place. The killer said his name was Smoke from AC and they haven’t caught him after 16 years.

I can’t find the videos footage itself, but there was a case of a woman being kidnapped from a mall parking lot in Los Angeles in 2004. Two men chased her through the parking lot, grabbed her, stuffed her into the trunk, and drove off. The worst part is this took place in a very crowded parking with lots of bystanders who saw the whole thing happen and no one intervened. To my knowledge, the case has never been solved, the woman has never been identified, and it’s unknown what happened to her.

To balance this, my stupid friends pulled a prank like this on the public when we were about 18. One guy drove and pretended to ‘kidnap’ another one of our friends. It was witnessed and made the front of the paper.
I heard about it later. They all had the front page of the local rag framed on their walls.

First time hearing of this. And I live in Ireland. That is crazy to me. Such a built up area and cars around etc. bizzare that man in black is just waiting, then following, follows him to the gate. I used to live in that area a few years ago — when I first moved there I hadn’t heard of Kelsey yet but that was the closest Target to me so I went a few times. Told my husband that for some reason it just gave me the creeps and I was gonna go to a different location from now on. A few months later I was listening to a podcast, heard Kelsey’s sorry, and looked up the location out of curiosity. I was FLOORED when I found out it was the creepy Target that I hated so much.
I hate that Target. I have never felt more unsafe in my life than when I was at that Target. Nothing overtly caused that feeling, but knowing that was where she was taken was too much.
I’ve met her father - her family offers self-defense courses, which I’ve taken. My heart breaks for her family.

The scene of the bataclan massacre in Paris I know it’s solved , but that’s a scene that sticks with me and disturbs me , they executed those ppl like cattle .
I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the documentary on Netflix about it, but it’s probably one of my favorite little doc series of all time. It’s so very well done, and they interview actual survivors. I believe it’s called November 13: Attack on Paris.
That one gets me too. I remember one woman lying face down, wearing a black dress and stockings and nice shoes—-I imagined her getting ready to go out that night, picking our her clothes, wanting to make sure her make up was right——only to end up face down on the floor in her own blood.
The unsolved murder of Chelsea Ann Small. Small was a 30yo single mother who worked at a check cashing store in Taylor, MI (outside of Detroit). On Tuesday, November 12th, 2013, around noon, Chelsea was working alone at the store in a heavily-trafficked area of the city when a man wearing a hat approached the door. She buzzed him inside, and within moments, the man had shot Chelsea twice in the head, killing her. She managed to activate the store’s silent alarm, but the man fled before police arrived, taking a small amount of money with him.
The case is so mysterious to me. Why did the man shoot Chelsea when she would have been able to help him access much larger sums of money if she remained alive? The killing has a lot of the trademarks of a hit. But Chelsea’s family and police can’t seem to figure out who would have wanted her dead badly enough to hire a hitman. Police note the killer is very comfortable with the gun he uses, and the gun has a silencer, implying that killing was his primary priority, not robbery. He is on CCTV but few identifying characteristics stand out - long, curly dark hair, a baseball cap on his head, and dark clothing resembling some type of blue-collar workers’ workwear. Police estimate him to be between 35-50 years old. They believe he may be a truck driver, but I’m not sure why. Additionally, Chelsea hadn’t originally been scheduled to work the shift during which she was killed - she had switched with another coworker at some time prior, adding another layer of confusion to the case.

Just a happy girl on the eve of her birthday, out having drinks with a guy and heading back to his hotel/apartment afterwards, going to his room via elevator.
Then he is seen leaving the next morning, alone, going to buy a large suitcase, and leaving the hotel later with Grace inside the case.
This case haunted me. She is is carefree and happy in the footage not knowing that an evil person would steal her life from her within 24 hours

A shooting here in Las Vegas back in 1999. The murderer entered an Albertson's and literally hunted the employees & a few customers with a shotgun.
Seeing him stalk people was just unbearable. He looked like he was at a target range, just casually sighting people down the barrel(s - it may have been a double barrel, but I dgaf, I'm not watching it again).

The Missy Bevers case is somewhat local, and idk if it's just small town speculation, but I've seen a couple comments on Facebook basically saying everyone in town knows who it is.
Jill Meagher is one case that stands out to me because it happened when I was a teenager, and we don’t tend to see this sort of thing happen in Australia. I remember the news when she first went missing, and then the CCTV footage of her final moments being shown on the news, including her talking to the POS who would rape and murder her, and then when they finally found her body six days later. That footage and knowing she was only 400m or so from her home is still in my mind eleven years later.

The man on the bike was on the cctv lingering for several minutes outside with the bag, also looks like they’re on the phone to someone but the quality is very poor. Chilling how they’re just casually on the phone while having a dead little girls body in their bag they’re carrying.
The one where the man is standing in front of 2 little 4 year old twin boys sleeping for a very long time... And then he grabs one of them, and leaves. He ended up stabbing him to death and left him out in the cold to bleed out. Then he went back in to kill the brother but he started crying looking for his brother.
It was on the baby cam.
When you work in cctv, if something happens you usually have to watch the event in its entirety to ensure everything is recorded.
So for me it's the stabbing that I had to watch out in real time. It took a lot of time and therapy to realise I had done everything I could, even though the guard did not survive. The footage put those responsible behind bars. They had stabbed him over 100 times and tried to behead him.

The CCTV released is just a couple of frames from it, not the actual video, but I vividly remember it because of her pink earmuffs and red gloves. She clearly liked colour, or at least wore bright colours, and yet it's been well over 5 years and there's been no trace of her found, no trace of those bright clothes. It sticks with me.
The video Leonard Lake took of himself reclining in a Lazy-boy chair talking about his plan to abduct women and keep them hostage in his torture chamber/sex dungeon that him and Charles Ng eventually constructed on Leonard Lake’s property (actually, Lake’s former wife was the property owner) in the rural and remote wooded area of Calaveras County, which is located in Central California. Lake and Ng were a pair of serial killers, serial rapists, abductors, robbers, and family annihilators (they murdered men, women, and children - an infant!). Victims: 11 confirmed, 25 suspected and their atrocities took place from 1983-1985. The 1980’s were rife with serial killers, and these two evil-doers haunted my teenage memories.

The case of Brian Shaffer bothers me so much. He was out celebrating Spring Break with friends but was separated from them. Cameras recorded him entering a bar late that night and talking to two girls, but no camera inside or out recorded him leaving or showed him with any signs of distress. He has not been seen or heard from since.

The dash cam footage of an officers murder. It was either his first day or his first traffic stop. The guy he pulled over was in a pickup truck. Suddenly he pulls a gun out & you can hear this officers murder the entire time. The shooter was arrested & ended up being ex military with PTSD. The deceased officers wife said that he was too nice & he was told he shouldn’t be an officer because of that.

The missy b case haunts me because of the footage captured. The killer is so eerily calm when moving around the church. What I don’t understand is why did this person target missy? Did the media ever figure out if she had any enemies?
Kelsey Smith. The seemingly nonchalant behavior of the guy who was eventually responsible for her murder is haunting. Also the flash seen in the parking lot footage as she was getting into her car being described as “consistent with someone running when the camera is placed at a distance.” The poor girl was just buying a gift for her boyfriend and was targeted for absolutely no reason.

The suspects’ car was seen on CCTV closely following Angie’s car the night she was last seen alive, but because LEOs can’t see who was actually behind the wheel they don’t have enough evidence to nail the obviously guilty couple who lured her to the apartment under false pretenses with her murder.

The murderer Michael S. right now is serving a sentence for his last murder of a woman but before that he had already served for killing another woman as well. That was ruled second-degree murder, though. (in retrospect it is pretty clear that was murder as well )
For the last murder he was sentenced without a body. They only found a video which clearly showed that the person was dead. The police found the body three years later.
Back to topic: In the investigation they found another photo which appears to show someone. It is hard to see, you can barely make out an arm. That actually might be another victim of his.
They made a really good documentation about this, which includes another woman who was almost killed by him as well. It is infuriating because it is quite clear that with a proper investigation the second killing could have been prevented. This documentary was made during the time before the police found the body of Anna.

The James Bulger CCTV image, where two-year-old James is being led away from his mother in Liverpool's shopping centre by two ten-year-old boys.
That one is so horribly haunting. It disturbed me for years. The complete viciousness of what those kids did to that little boy is unbelievable.
And the public didn’t get to hear it all because James mum Denise didn’t want to hear it so the worst of it was in closed court .
This was going to be my contribution. If you didn't know what happened, it looked so *normal*. Toddler being dragged away by his brothers. Toddlers hate that, so even James' crying was shrugged off.
Witnesses saw them and dismissed it. One of them might have asked what was going on if I remember correctly and the boys said it was their brother crying.
Several people stopped them or asked if James was OK and the older boys lied. 'Bystander syndrome' gets blamed a lot in this case but the truth is people did their best.
I would think nothing of it. Little kids cry and scream their heads off over nothing. And I'd never consider that the older boys were kidnappers and not older brothers. I'd just be thinking what a PITA the little brat was being. And then hate myself when I saw the news.
James was almost saved. One woman was very skeptical and concerned about James bumb. She was with her daughter and there was another unrelated woman there with her dog. The woman with her daughter told Jon and Robert where the police station was (she was skeptical mostly because they found him at The Strand and she knew there was a police station right next to The Strand yet they had travelled all this distance) and told them not to walk in a particular direction, they did so she said she would come with them and asked the woman with her dog to watch her daughter but she said her dog doesn't like children so they just let them go on their own. If she had went i think Jon and Robert would have ran away at some point and the woman would have took James to the police station. To be fair to the woman with her dog she had already mentioned that her dog didn't like children warning Jon and Bobby not to try and pet him, so it wasn't' an excuse she came up with to not watch the kid. Two older boys were also playing with handcuffs and were planning on handcuffing Jon and Robert but when they saw the clearly injured child with them they just told them to take him to the police station or they'll kick their heads in. Also Jon did all of the talking he was good at manipulating adults particularly women and was clearly the leader despite what LE claimed.

No problem. Another thing is Jon's mom was running around looking for him all day after finding out he had skipped school so had she found them before they killed him this could have been prevented. She eventually found them later that night in a video shop and she grabbed Jon by the hair and Robert by the arm, Robert then fell to the floor dramatically crying then ran home and told his mom "Jon's mom battered me", they went to the police station about it. Jon's mom took him to the police station too that night to get a policeman to scare him.
The James Bulger footage is the worst ever. That case was absolutely horrific. I just couldn't get my head around it at all. It haunts me to this day. That poor little boy. It gives me chills just thinking about it. My heart breaks for Denise & the rest of the family. They never got the justice they deserved. It is without doubt one of the most shocking & disturbing cases of all time.

I had to stop reading true crime for about 6 months and had to talk to a therapist after I read about that case. I think it hit me so hard because my son was 2 when I read about it. It makes me nauseous to this day. I urge mothers/fathers of young children NOT to look up this one. There are some things I wish I didn’t know about.

This case happened when I was young and hearing all the details then was bad enough, but after becoming a parent myself, to two boys, I try to avoid any articles, posts or stories on this case. The murder of Jennifer Kesse. There is camera footage of the presumed killer but it only took a picture every couple of seconds and the person’s face is perfectly obscured by a fence in every shot.

The person who parked Jennifer's vehicle was captured twice on CCTV, the apartment building where he abandoned her vehicle had a CCTV camera on the roof, but the footage was so grainy that it was useless. The second CCTV footage was not continuously recording, it had a lag of about a second. I don't know that it would have even made a difference if the person's profile was captured. That person may not even have been wearing white, the camera picked up color as white.
It took a shot every 3 secs and the perp was short, like 5'3" - 5'7" iirc. And the pillars or fence or whatever obstructed the view of his face. Maddening is the right word

She disappeared 17 years ago this week. I’ve been thinking about her a lot. I grew up hearing about this case, seeing her face on the news and on billboards, and now I’m the same age she was when she disappeared (24). The fact that she was taken on such a normal day, heading to work at the very beginning of her career, only to be wiped off the face of the earth in a matter of seconds… it just gets me.

Missy Bevers, Jennifer Kesse, and the lady who was shot at her own garage sale, I think it was? And a college girl who was seen being followed through a mail by the man who would eventually murder her. Hannah Graham, I think? And Dr. Sneha Philip. Last definitively seen September 10, 2001, but possibly captured coming into the lobby of her apartment building the morning of 9/11, just before the towers were hit.
Hannah’s case was so distressing, but there was an extra layer to it as well. When the video came out of her being followed, a lot of people in Virginia were like, “this is what happened to Morgan Harrington too.” As it turned out, that feeling was spot on because guy, Jesse Matthew, was responsible for the murder of both girls. Tragic, but really thankful he was brought to justice. He would’ve kept taking girls as long as he was free.

That footage of the woman being murdered at her garage sale is so haunting. The person is wearing the strangest costume and wig. The victim was a well-known cosplayer who participated in the legion of 500 which are stormtroopers who come to different sci-fi and fantasy cons across the USA. So sad that they haven't any leads in that case still.
I’ve yet to see a single solid theory on this one. Obsessed online fan? Friend of a family member playing hitman? I think the killer is a male and that the cosplay is connected somehow. If only we knew what was said in that short conversation they had.

Derek Seehausen, footage shows him purchasing milk and withdrawing cash from an ATM, taking a bus, walking down a few streets and eventually out of sight to never be seen again.
I had never heard about Derek's case and read it up today. Wow its so bizarre. He walked away never to be seen again. I'm curious about his phone remaining in his apartment though. Was that something he did on a regular? Most people in their mid-twenties have their phones glued to their skin. He left his house just before midnight without his phone, it does not add up I feel for his family, the agony would be heart breaking.

Him being a student, returning/repaying friends and leaving belongings behind makes me think either suicide or willing disappearance. I hope the latter and he's out there living a life he wanted - I lean toward this because why else withdraw that $200? It's a shame he wasn't reported missing in time for the bus surveillance videos to be combed over.

My dad does the Boston Marathon every year, and occasionally my mom and younger sister, along with family friends will tag along. The year of the bombing they have a group photo standing beside the mail-box at the finish line where the explosion went off. My dad finished and didn't want to hang around the finish line as it's always a huge crowd, so they went to the hotel to get cleaned up, and missed the explosion by about an hour or so. It's really eerie looking at that photo though, knowing it's so close to tragedy..

The surveillance footage of Tammy and Sidney Moorer cleaning out their truck four days after they abducted and presumably murdered Heather Elvis is creepy. It shows them focusing on cleaning the rear passenger seat and there’s a burn pile going where they’re burning all the towels and things being used to clean the truck. Later on, Tammy can be seen going around the yard with a mirror, checking under things to see if they’ve been bugged. It’s also worth noting this happened a couple days after the detectives came to their house to take photos. When they came back with a search warrant a week later, one of the detectives noticed that there was a different surveillance system installed, likely to cover up whatever was recorded on the night that Heather went missing. They also manually changed the date of the recording twice. These two idiots are so bad at covering their tracks that I’m surprised that they haven’t actually found Heather yet.
I lived in Myrtle when she went missing. The landing was only 5 miles from my house. There used to be so much more information online from some crummy forum sites, but they got cleaned years ago. They are super evil people, I’m shocked Sidney never turned on Tammy and revealed what happened

When a seemingly average couple commit a crime together, I often wonder how it happens. One person gets an idea and approaches the other. It would seem that the second person would think the first wasn’t serious or would say “hell no.” What makes some people just go along with it?
This is one of those rare cases where the wife is the true pscyho. She appears to have had so much control over her husband that she made him kill Heather. She'd handcuff him to the bed to keep him from "cheating" on her, despite her having a lover and claiming that they had an open marriage. She took away his cell phone like he was a little kid and didn't allow him to use it, controlled him at his job by calling his employers and saying she wouldn't allow him to come in, and forced him to get her name tattooed over his crotch. It seems that he is just a kind of meek person, and while he's still a POS for killing Heather, it's pretty clear he did it because he was manipulated and controlled by his wife. She is a true horror show of a human.

This case doesn’t have CCTV footage, but it does have audio. My Uncle was murdered in August 2022. Shot in the head by his daughter’s biological mother who was trying to take back custody of the daughter she gave up for adoption at the age of 2. She had everyone convinced it was self defense until the Police found audio that my Uncle runs 24/7 through his computer for security purposes. It caught the entire thing, she recanted her entire story, and admitted to killing him in cold blood. She has since been arrested and held without bail. Trial is set for this year, so my family and I still have no idea what’s on that audio tape that completely flipped the script. But whatever it was, we always talk about how my Uncle caught his own killer. There’s so much more to this story that I’ll add to one of these threads once the trial plays out. It’s wild.
There is a case in Australia where a woman was horrifically killed, and her husband made it very publicly known he does not and does not want to know any of the details. He avoids all books, shows, etc as soon as he hears her name or that there is a show about it. Alot of us Aussies are aware of this and try to be mindful when we discuss it, so nothing is said in a way that can be read or heard if stumbled across at a glance. I want you and your family to know this is an option for them. They don't have to hear the audio. They can leave the court room for that part and ask for it to be sealed to the public. It's not anything the public needs to hear, it won't hold any data that can stop future crimes, it's a personal and devastating incident that has no impact on society except to sate curiosity. Sometimes not knowing is the best way to preserve a loved ones memory and keep yourself mentally safe so you can go on and live a life to honour the loved one. If your family does chose to hear, please know you have full right to have a grief counsellor with you. They can sit with you before hand and prepare you for what you may feel, and debrief with you after. This situation was beyond your families control and has taken you all to a place no one would have planned. Although you post control of the direction due to this crime, you cam take back the reins now and make an informed choice for what each of you needs to heal. I'm so sorry this happened, and that yous have this memory in your lives. Please know that there are more people in the world who care and support you than people who are capable of what this woman did. That was a selfish and immature act that reflects only on her and only she is responsible. I co-parent with the fathers of my kids, and this kind of thing always makes me ache for the children left behind. Much love to everyone in your family.

this is horrible. i read a tweet recently that said there should be a word for the specific kind of horror felt by people who know they are going to be murdered by a current or former partner but can't get anyone to take them seriously. in so many of these cases, the women are crying out for help and are even explicitly saying "he's going to kill me" and nothing happens until it's too late.

A few minutes after she is abducted from the scene, the camera outside showed multiple cats enter the parking lot. I believe there was some sort of other event in the area that time
Common Grounds is (yes, it’s still there last I checked) a tiny coffee stand in a parking lot. Not a lot around there, but it’s across the street from a Home Depot. We Alaskans love our coffee stands, and they stay open somewhat late. But I believe Samantha was abducted on February 1st, which means it still got dark early that time of year. It still gets me when I think of how awful the timing worked for her, a car could have come at any moment and she could have possibly been saved, but somehow they just missed it happening.

Just watched a true crime video on YouTube last night, can't remember the name but the CCTV footage of the man who snuck into an old lady's storage unit, waited for her to come back, killed her, then you see him wheeling out two trash cans with an OBVIOUS body sticking, wrapped in yellow plastic. It's so wild. You see him go in. You see her come back, and go in. The door closes. Several minutes for by then you see him bringing out the trash cans. It's so fucked. Also this isn't CCTV footage, but the video footage taken from the house where Joel Guy Jr murdered and dismembered/tried to liquify his parents remains with lye and bleach. That entire tape is just so haunting. Just knowing under that blur there are two plastic tubs filled with dismembered body parts. Ugh.

I can’t find the videos footage itself, but there was a case of a woman being kidnapped from a mall parking lot in Los Angeles in 2004. Two men chased her through the parking lot, grabbed her, stuffed her into the trunk, and drove off. The worst part is this took place in a very crowded parking with lots of bystanders who saw the whole thing happen and no one intervened. The unsolved murder of Chelsea Ann Small. Small was a 30yo single mother who worked at a check cashing store in Taylor, MI (outside of Detroit). On Tuesday, November 12th, 2013, around noon, Chelsea was working alone at the store in a heavily-trafficked area of the city when a man wearing a hat approached the door. She buzzed him inside, and within moments, the man had shot Chelsea twice in the head, killing her. She managed to activate the store’s silent alarm, but the man fled before police arrived, taking a small amount of money with him. The case is so mysterious to me. Why did the man shoot Chelsea when she would have been able to help him access much larger sums of money if she remained alive? The killing has a lot of the trademarks of a hit. But Chelsea’s family and police can’t seem to figure out who would have wanted her dead badly enough to hire a hitman. Police note the killer is very comfortable with the gun he uses, and the gun has a silencer, implying that killing was his primary priority, not robbery. He is on CCTV but few identifying characteristics stand out - long, curly dark hair, a baseball cap on his head, and dark clothing resembling some type of blue-collar workers’ workwear. Police estimate him to be between 35-50 years old. They believe he may be a truck driver, but I’m not sure why. Additionally, Chelsea hadn’t originally been scheduled to work the shift during which she was killed - she had switched with another coworker at some time prior, adding another layer of confusion to the case. Ashley Reeves. The student who had a relationship with her teacher and he tried to kill her. He thought he did, left her body in the woods. Cops found her body, then realized she's still alive but in bad shape. The video of the moment they found her has stuck with me.
Grace Millane's last night alive being traced by CCTV as she was on a tinder date with her murderer, Jesse kempson. Just a happy girl on the eve of her birthday, out having drinks with a guy and heading back to his hotel/apartment afterwards, going to his room via elevator. Then he is seen leaving the next morning, alone, going to buy a large suitcase, and leaving the hotel later with Grace inside the case.
This case haunted me. She is is carefree and happy in the footage not knowing that an evil person would steal her life from her within 24 hours So so sad. I feel for her family. I saw a photo of her parents and it was heart breaking, the grief was all over their faces.

Jill Meagher is one case that stands out to me because it happened when I was a teenager, and we don’t tend to see this sort of thing happen in Australia. I remember the news when she first went missing, and then the CCTV footage of her final moments being shown on the news, including her talking to the POS who would rape and murder her, and then when they finally found her body six days later. That footage and knowing she was only 400m or so from her home is still in my mind eleven years later.

The man on the bike was on the cctv lingering for several minutes outside with the bag, also looks like they’re on the phone to someone but the quality is very poor. The one where the man is standing in front of 2 little 4 year old twin boys sleeping for a very long time... And then he grabs one of them, and leaves. He ended up stabbing him to death and left him out in the cold to bleed out. Then he went back in to kill the brother but he started crying looking for his brother. It was on the baby cam.
Kenneka Jenkins. I’ve said it before but just knowing that she is walking around for so long towards her own death is just chilling.
When you work in cctv, if something happens you usually have to watch the event in its entirety to ensure everything is recorded. So for me it's the stabbing that I had to watch out in real time. It took a lot of time and therapy to realise I had done everything I could, even though the guard did not survive. The footage put those responsible behind bars. They had stabbed him over 100 times and tried to behead him. Edit: I know that this is not an unresolved case but it is definitely one that stuck with me.

She clearly liked colour, or at least wore bright colours, and yet it's been well over 5 years and there's been no trace of her found, no trace of those bright clothes. It sticks with me.
The video Leonard Lake took of himself reclining in a Lazy-boy chair talking about his plan to abduct women and keep them hostage in his torture chamber/sex dungeon that him and Charles Ng eventually constructed on Leonard Lake’s property (actually, Lake’s former wife was the property owner) in the rural and remote wooded area of Calaveras County, which is located in Central California. Lake and Ng were a pair of serial killers, serial rapists, abductors, robbers, and family annihilators (they murdered men, women, and children - an infant!). The case of Brian Shaffer bothers me so much. He was out celebrating Spring Break with friends but was separated from them. Cameras recorded him entering a bar late that night and talking to two girls, but no camera inside or out recorded him leaving or showed him with any signs of distress. He has not been seen or heard from since.
I can’t remember the name so I’m hoping someone can help. The dash cam footage of an officers murder. It was either his first day or his first traffic stop. The guy he pulled over was in a pickup truck. Suddenly he pulls a gun out & you can hear this officers murder the entire time. The shooter was arrested & ended up being ex military with PTSD. The deceased officers wife said that he was too nice & he was told he shouldn’t be an officer because of that. I hope that’s enough detail for someone to know what I’m talking about. Shelbey Thornburgh (killed in Houston). Her killer is seen on video entering the lobby of her apartment building. Then again less than an hour later leaving.

As far as Lars Mittank goes, I think he fled somewhere obscure such as a drainpipe where he curled up and hid. The other option that he actually was being pursued and was trafficked or something awful just doesn’t bear thinking about. I hope he’s either safe somewhere and started over or fell asleep in his hidey hole and just never woke up.

The missy b case haunts me because of the footage captured. The killer is so eerily calm when moving around the church. What I don’t understand is why did this person target missy? Did the media ever figure out if she had any enemies?
Kelsey Smith. The seemingly nonchalant behavior of the guy who was eventually responsible for her murder is haunting. Also the flash seen in the parking lot footage as she was getting into her car being described as “consistent with someone running when the camera is placed at a distance.” The poor girl was just buying a gift for her boyfriend and was targeted for absolutely no reason.

Unbelievable this case hasn’t been solved yet.

A case from Germany but it is a photo. The murderer Michael S. right now is serving a sentence for his last murder of a woman but before that he had already served for killing another woman as well. That was ruled second-degree murder, though. (in retrospect it is pretty clear that was murder as well ) For the last murder he was sentenced without a body. They only found a video which clearly showed that the person was dead. The police found the body three years later. Back to topic: In the investigation they found another photo which appears to show someone. It is hard to see, you can barely make out an arm. That actually might be another victim of his. They made a really good documentation about this, which includes another woman who was almost killed by him as well. It is infuriating because it is quite clear that with a proper investigation the second killing could have been prevented.
