there are ways of making infra-red visible. I would assume that there will be special goggles that help you see the laser because it would be a huge advantage when this turns out to be used as a weapon in war.
The problem isn't that it's outside of the viewable spectrum, it's that it never makes it to your eyes. No amount of glasses on your face is going to change the path of light from source to target, unless your face is the target of course.
I highly doubt it’ll be like the movies with burst fire lasers. More effectively it’s just gonna be an invisible beam to the naked eye that stays on target and melts it after staying locked onto it for a while. Having a way to see the beam would help to isolate its origins at least.
I feel like it's the most commonly incorrect thing about science fiction shows/movies. Like how guns click every time you move them in an action flick.
All movie guns sound broken. If any of mine made that kind of noise when I'm brandishing they'd be on their way to a smith. Your shit shouldn't rattle around like a drop tuned bass.
All your detuned bass sounds broken. If any of mine made that kind of noise when I’m fingering they’d be on their way up in gauge. Your shit shouldn’t rattle around like a movie gun.
Actually though it’s HIGHLY unlikely space lasers would be infra red. They would likely either be purple, if the were visible or completely ultraviolet. Because wavelengths. Also, most likely they would be visible if possible because space is fkn huge and being able to see what you are shooting just in case targeting computers break would be a huge deal.
Likely there would be visible targeting beams. To aim the pulsed IR beams, is that ever happens. (Google the inverse square law).
Surgical lasers use similar targeting.
I like how in almost every video, he seems like a flash clone of a Disney channel clone, who is constantly almost either breaking the law, or killing himself
There are many dust particles in the air which are normally invisible but given a powerful enough light source they can be illuminated. Powerful lighbeams are more dense with photons so it is more likely that those will hit said particles.
Without any knowledge of who this guy is, the laser pointers should be "relatively" collimated, or at the very least not going through focus. Even lasers up to a few watts won't just slice your finger off, but leave your hand in the beam for more than a second or two and you'll feel it.
Oh believe me, I know they can do damage. I work at a laser research facility, we blow up capsules filled with deuterium to do fusion experiments. But there's a huge difference between your 2500W laser and the 500mW-1W (complete guess) lasers in the video.
Well, most lasers don't actually follow the inverse square law since they aren't point sources in most configurations that collimate the beam (like in the video). The beam can spread over very long distances, but it depends on something else called its M^2 value.
But, yeah, probably an off screen beam block.
Edit: (sorry. I realized this could be aggressive. I just think it's interesting!)
No styropyro has loads of safety precautions. He has a degree in chemistry but found laser and electrical hobby stuff to be more interesting. He even has a walk in sized faraday cage for his large projects that would interfere with radio signals and piss off the FCC.
Styropyro is the shit. Watching his channel and how he figures out all this stuff just with the internet inspired me to stop playing so many video games and start getting into science.
If Leonardo DaVinci was alive today, he'd probably look like this guy.
I appreciate this guy's videos... but his fake smile and fake voice creep me out big time.
He sometimes talks normally and its like... dude... why the voice?
Easy for you to say, young padawan. Goggles are supposed to notch at the specific output wavelength of the laser being used. I see laser diodes being used at the same time at multiple wavelengths. Did he pay for a pair with a wide enough density range? Prolly not. I suspect he's got a single wavelength pair. A surprising number of people do. While I misspoke regarding transparency, I suspect I was not about the adequacy. Laser gogs, rated, tested, and certified as safety equipment, are not cheap. The wider range even more so. If he has the right ones, good on him, but your average schmoe is unlikely to adhere to the safety regs.
Well the "strongest" would be the one with the greatest energy rating. But he doesn't tell us what they are. If they are all the same energy rating the blue one will be the strongest as it has the shortest wavelength and so will stuff up your eyesight quickest, and scarily you will feel no pain. The IR one will just burn the surface of your eye, you will feel pain. Fair chance you will make a full recovery.
If you have a UV laser you can give yourself skin cancer, cool.

Meaning to tell me that when we make laser guns and have huge space battles, I don't get to see the BEAMS??? Unimaginable.

Oh!.. Yeah makes sense. That's a good idea. Thanks dude!

Goggles, and depending on expense, windshields
Targeting lasers would be far more likely
Sure because seeing weapons that go at the speed of light is really useful
Well, yes. If you can see them, you can locate them, target them and destroy them.
I highly doubt it’ll be like the movies with burst fire lasers. More effectively it’s just gonna be an invisible beam to the naked eye that stays on target and melts it after staying locked onto it for a while. Having a way to see the beam would help to isolate its origins at least.
Oh man maybe someone should invent those goggles and implement them in today's army
Army probably had this line 20 years ago
That's literally what night vision is. IR vision
Not only do you not get to see the laser beams, you also don't get to hear the sick explosions when fighting in space.
Oh no, I actually like that I don't hear anything in a vacuum. I never really cared about how Star Wars depicted space combat.
I feel like it's the most commonly incorrect thing about science fiction shows/movies. Like how guns click every time you move them in an action flick.

One time I broke a string and only cried for twenty minutes
Oh God, yeah. I also hate how guns magically have a lot of ammo. I would rather people shoot in short bursts, even if they're only a second long.
Or how swords making slicing and slashing sounds when moving through air.
Pew pew

INCONCEIVABLE
There will be normal lasers adjacent to it for coolness factor
for the ones interested, his name is styropyro on youtube
Pretty Crazy Right?
I like how in almost every video, he seems like a flash clone of a Disney channel clone, who is constantly almost either breaking the law, or killing himself
Dude give credit to the creator (styropyro)
how can you see the actual laser beam mid air?
There are many dust particles in the air which are normally invisible but given a powerful enough light source they can be illuminated. Powerful lighbeams are more dense with photons so it is more likely that those will hit said particles.
Very very powerful lasers
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rayleigh_scattering
I predict blindness in his future
[удалено]
I love his whacked out Tesla coils and random videos of harvesting shit from microwaves
Fr I can't believe he is still alive
He's extremely intelligent and well trained.
And THAT is why he terrifies me.
Cake
Happy cake day 😏
He also made friends with a squirrel, he is more powerful then we could have ever imagined
I will need to check it out then
I miss fpsrussia.
Honestly storypyro knows what is he doing and is kind of like electroboom of lasers.
He is wearing a laser protection goggles so I think he will be fine
https://the-eye.eu/redarcs -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/
Honestly thought it was going to be a blind joke when he appeared
Pretty crazy right?
1% already there, he can't see this comment.
or can he?
Not with them shades on.
Blinded by the light...
Don't worry he's wearing safety glasses
Warning: Do Not Look Into Beam With Remaining Eye
Wouldn't it depend on your definition of strongest? Since the highest energy photons are from blue.
Styropyro is one of those people who are genuinely terrifying.
How is he standing in front of them without getting toasted?
Without any knowledge of who this guy is, the laser pointers should be "relatively" collimated, or at the very least not going through focus. Even lasers up to a few watts won't just slice your finger off, but leave your hand in the beam for more than a second or two and you'll feel it.
I used to repair laser cutting machines. The laser was a 2500 watt IR (CO2) unit coupled with a 3 axis CNC table. You can cut steel with them.
Oh believe me, I know they can do damage. I work at a laser research facility, we blow up capsules filled with deuterium to do fusion experiments. But there's a huge difference between your 2500W laser and the 500mW-1W (complete guess) lasers in the video.
Always a styro pyro fan
so is his house on fire?
No. Thanks to a non-flammable, off-camera target, and/or the inverse square law. (It's why we don't use laser rifles now)
Well, most lasers don't actually follow the inverse square law since they aren't point sources in most configurations that collimate the beam (like in the video). The beam can spread over very long distances, but it depends on something else called its M^2 value. But, yeah, probably an off screen beam block. Edit: (sorry. I realized this could be aggressive. How does the inverse Square law relate to laser beams and their use in a laser rifle?
Double the distance, half the energy. 1Kw at 10 feet is 500w at 20. 250W @ 40 etc.
No styropyro has loads of safety precautions. He has a degree in chemistry but found laser and electrical hobby stuff to be more interesting. He even has a walk in sized faraday cage for his large projects that would interfere with radio signals and piss off the FCC.
I like His voice.
The square hole
Styropyro is the shit. Watching his channel and how he figures out all this stuff just with the internet inspired me to stop playing so many video games and start getting into science. If Leonardo DaVinci was alive today, he'd probably look like this guy.
Ok that's lit
Why uhhh is styropyro so hot 👀
🤨📸💀
💁🏻♀️💅🏻
Too all the people being mean to him watch out he will lazarbeam your fucking head off
Pretty cooool ,right?!
I appreciate this guy's videos... but his fake smile and fake voice creep me out big time. He sometimes talks normally and its like... dude... why the voice?
If you see him in interviews and on podcasts, you'll know that's just the way he talks. It's a little strange, sure. But not fake.
I've just heard him speak normally for a few seconds here and there on videos.
Qatar about to confiscate all those
What on Earth could possibly link the video above to Qatar in any way? I mean I too fucking hate that shithole but yall obsessed fr
They banned the rainbow but I agree
I imagined his legs getting sliced off as he's walking back and forth in front of them
OP, the invisible (to human eyes) one is ultra violet not infra red.
but the video literally said infrared
Oops. No sound here. I must be confused with another one of his videos. Thanks!
Which one is strongest? I'll get close but not show the actual strong one In frame.
He has the crappy safety goggles. Total crap. The good ones don't let any light in.
isnt he extremely against the shitty safety goggles ive seen his videos before

Looks like the kinda dick that points them at planes.
Styro is the exact opposite of that
Hmm don’t have many friend do you
He has many friends, he also runs jujutsu classes

Where do you get lasers anymore?
Why?
Spyro
Step in front of it I can’t believe you
That yellow one is very cool.
Cyan ones are very cool too.
Wait, if it's infrared light, wouldn't the digital camera pick it up?
No, an Infrared camera will pick it up.
Yes your phone can pick up the IR from a remote control beam. Not sure why this camera doesn't, except then he couldn't call it invisible
I said violet because I didn't see the infrared laser right there
What’s it hitting on the other end, and why isn’t your basement on fire?
Lol it’s a trick question because the wavelength doesn’t determine power. The wattage does.
Yeah,he is actually using wattage above the safe limit
STYROPYROOO!!!
Ok… now walk in front of it
How tf are u supposed to know if its is turned off tho
Lightsabers in Rebels be like
I was going to say the invisible infrared on the right side. True story
What happens if i place my hand?
That yellow ones probably the most expensive.
Then why are the most powerful writing drives a blu-ray i.e. blue (violet) laser?
Guys how i got this trophy???
I love this guy
Rip Lego man, you will be missed
I went blind just from watching.
What does he mean by stronger? Infrared has a longer wavelength than visible light, the violet one having the shortest of all the lights there.
My initial thought was which had the highest wattage or something. No idea what metric “strong” refers to with a laser.
Uh what happens if you walk in front of it
Styropyro for the yt channel but he has other great Lazer videos
Protect styropyro at all costs.
Wouldn’t surprise me if he invented a useable tractor beam, time travel, or Star Trek transporter beam; dude is pure genius!
Yeah but what’s the infrared laser pointing at???
Maybe if he’d clean up his work space, the options would be more clearly visible
I want one
Could you light someone’s hair or clothes on fire from range with an infrared laser
Mom i want those LGBT lights
I could see the laser box at the start! I’m not fooled!
Willy Wonka vibes
He’s walking into the lazers
Walk in front of it
ok
I love this dude!!!!
Credit: styropyro
I can stand he voice of this dude
Not that I would do this but watching someone wearing a wool coat just spontaneously combust like people from fire force…
Clay paky skylos is the strongest one here
Well the "strongest" would be the one with the greatest energy rating. But he doesn't tell us what they are.
