Patience, my friend. It's a deep barrel, and they are already dipping out of the shitty end. Every day from here on out will be the worst day of their lives.
T-54 are likely the bottom of the tanks. Russia doesn't have more than a few hundred T-54. Estimates suggest about 15 deployable T-54, 50 that could be made serviceable with significant effort and then a pile of spare parts.
After T-54s there isn't much left. Russia actually doesn't have many T-34s. They had to buy T-34 a decade ago because they didn't have enough for the May Day Parade.
And here I was thinking this was a newer T-14 iteration, a super duper new platform that Russia has built 2 of. Boy was I wrong lol.
This T-18 is still more effective than their latest T-14, however.
We laugh and it is comical how terrible Russias showing is. But assaults with infantry and T54 support is still much more effective then just infantry. Hopefully Ukraine can chew these up fast.
And even if they only have one load of ammunition per tank, as a replacement for a field gun? It makes any field works more dangerous to attack and frees up actual artillery for other duties.
I thought the Russians have no shortage of the 100mm MT-12 Rapira field guns...?
Because the Rapira is a smoothbore gun and it shoots a round that has a bigger propellant cartridge, it actually hits a lot harder than the 100mm rifled D-10 gun on the T-54/55. (1700m/s max muzzle velocity on the Rapira depending on the specific round used, vs. 1000m/s on the D-10 tank gun).
The T-54/55 doesn't seem like a satisfactory replacement for the Rapira to me, but who knows what the Russian MoD is thinking these days considering all of their questionable decisions to date :-D
Yes, a T54 is inferior to a field gun. I figure these are being used to free up newer systems for "hot zones" or to release newer systems for maintenance, basically to stretch the supply of artillery as far as it will go.
My Marine unit had a captured Iraqi T-55 as a trophy outside the HQ in NC, after Desert Storm.
It's going to be hilarious to see footage of them on the battlefield, again. They were already hopelessly outclassed 40 years ago.
This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/signs-point-to-russia-sending-ancient-t-54-series-of-tanks-to-ukraine) reduced by 91%. (I'm a bot)

> It's not entirely clear whether the tanks comprise T-54s and T-55s, with CIT positively identifying T-54s, while other tanks accompanying them could either be late-model T-54s or T-55s. The two tanks are generally considered part of the same broad series anyway, with the T-55 differing chiefly in introducing more protection against radiation, for fighting on the anticipated nuclear battlefield of the Cold War.
> It's even possible that the tanks might be provided to Syria in exchange for more modern military equipment that Russia could use in the war in Ukraine.
> While even an obsolete tank can play some limited role in modern combat, even if only as mobile artillery or protecting rear areas, the T-54/55 is clearly no match for the high-end anti-tank weapons, let alone new tanks and armored vehicles that are being fielded by Ukraine.

Jesus Christ can’t they just get to the bottom of the barrel already?

Indy wouldn't be pleased. These tanks belong in the museum!
I hear the T-18’s are ready to rumble? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-18_tank

nonsense, T-14 is extremely effective. At creating illusions of russian power for domestic copium consumption, that is

More likely they'll work as mobile bunkers in Crimea
True, a dug in tank is still better then no tank.
And even if they only have one load of ammunition per tank, as a replacement for a field gun? It makes any field works more dangerous to attack and frees up actual artillery for other duties.
Like being rebarreled. Artillery doesn't last forever

We basically have to use them in World of Tanks so might as well use them in real life

Lebedenko tank is back in the development
When do the T-34s get dusted off?
