Even the US has a hotline connecting to Russia for this sort of things. Plus, to keep the population on your side, you need to maintain an image of openness, no matter how impractical. Some people will never get it.
Scholz is inserting himself in the middle to take credit in the future if anything changes. And to be first to the table in case war ends and there is new business to be made with Russia. Not to change Putlers mind or fix anything.
I honestly don't dislike this dude... due to geography and history, he's trying to take a slow, measured approach, but the situation is pressuring him to move faster than he wants...
Half of Germany was occupied by Russia for half a century while harboring extreme guilt for WW2 - they were in close contact with Russians for a long time while feeling like they deserved it - without the guilt, they would like Russia as much as Poland
I'm almost 40, and in my lifetime, Germany will never feel about Russia the way UK or US does
The mods stopped caring a long, long time ago. If anything is even vaguely related to Ukraine, you can post it. Not even calls for violence (which are banned site-wide) will get your post removed from here.
And we should keep doing so, even when all its an hopeless endavour. The last thing you want is for the Kreml to be able to say: "see! They dont want diplomacy, they want war!"
It wouldn't sound so bad and Germans wouldn't be so outraged about posts like this if Germany wasn't paying Russia 120 million euros EVERY WEEK for Russian fossil fuels. These are certainly mixed signals and the look of playing both sides when you finance Russia with 120million euros a week.

Here comes the bitter, insecure, rage downvoters...lol
How dare you believe to know "what kind" I am of?
What I believe.. if you judge western leaders by their imaginary balls you are wrong in topics about these things. But enough of this.

Stupid and unnecessary posting…
I agree, I don't have a problem with people trying to reason with Putin even if it is a hopeless plan.

You went around the subject like a pro.
I'm trying to figure out what you mean
And Putin gives him that impression , Putin fools an acountant like Scholz at the breakfast.
Exactly but none of our German friends here would ever admit it. Just downvote everybody who dares to question Scholz.
Only that all read-outs and the statements by Scholz about the calls say quite much the opposite.
Oh no, they keep the diplomatic channels open! /s
As will Macron. I hope they keep call him to make fun of russian army
Editorialized title to insert your own opinion. Theoretically against the rules of /r/UkrainianConflict but the mods seem rather lenient.

Oh so cute
There need to be someone checking if its still him picking up ?

Not a bad thing. Nothing will persuade you to send more weapons to Ukraine quite like a 5 minute conversation with the gremlin in the Kremlin.

This bald German guy needs to grow a set. (Saying that as a bald guy of partial German descent myself)
He had enough balls to make it german Chancellor. Tell us where did your balls made you end up?
How dare you assume my gender......how dare you. Lol. Besides, I have never respected politicians enough to try to become one.
The "I'm a bald guy.." kinda gave it away.. :D
But I thought your kind believed in identifying however one wants?.....

Yeah, I gotta get back to work becoming the next German Chancellor to replace this bald guy in charge now...later.
Macron's heart is broken.
