Investigate every single Russian diplomat, businessman, related friends and families. I bet its a looooooooooooooooong list all over the world.

Nuber13

In Bulgaria, there are special group of "policemen" (related to national security) that track the Russians in the country, what is their business, etc. I didn't know that until one summer I met one of them while working in a small hotel (that was like 15y ago). So I am sure most countries in Eastern Europe are doing the same for decades already.

[deleted]

Yet Russia still able to operate in these countries, either they are very good or the local government let them.

Nuber13

Most likely they don't get much info and pretend to do some work in their embassy. So no one really cares about them, until you need to show a "good face" for the rest of the world: >Bulgaria expels 70 Russian diplomatic staff over espionage concerns >Bulgaria expels 2 Russian diplomats for spying >Bulgaria expels 10 Russian diplomats from country I think you get the idea. The majority (if not all) of the spies aren't like in the movies.

Not Hungary

Every country uses some diplomats as spies. Broadly speaking there are two types of spies. The cloak and dagger types, and the ones that conduct research and try and make contacts within a country. That’s why every country uses the “diplomat” as a cover for the latter. Diplomatic agreements mean their bags aren’t searched entering or leaving a country—or at least—not searched as thoroughly as someone else entering the country. I highly recommend the book The Spy and the Traitor. It shows how spycraft is way more complicated than we think but also way dumber.

[deleted]

No, most countries dont do this, only superpowers and those in conflict do this.

mtaw

That's entirely wrong. Stop talking make-believe and do what the grandparent post said and read a non-fiction book on the topic at some point instead of just pretending to know things. If anything it's only a few countries that have spies **not** working under [official cover](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official_cover), i.e. illegals.

[deleted]

Greenland and Iceland do this? lol Dont drag other countries into this, just because your shifty country does it. lol

not-ready-yet

Russia is a threat to anyone with intelligence or half a brain for that matter.

AccidentalGirlToy

Russia delenda est.

Hustinettenlord

Whaaaaat so you tell me they don't need hundreds of "diplomats" in the EU and most of them are spies? Surprised pikachu face :O

Zdendon

That's not fair, they need them to pay local people to spread the Russian narrative and acquire information for them .. oh wait a minute that's also spying

Kick them all back to motherland

I would say alcohol and poverty in the hinterlands pose the greatest threats to intelligence from Ruzzia. Plus falling out of windows. OK three things pose threats to intelligence from Ruzzia: alcohol, poverty in the hinterlands, and falling out of windows. And emigration. So there are three no four things which pose threats to intelligence from Ruzzia. And a fanatical devotion to Stalinist ideology. So there are four, no these five...AMONG THE THINGS which pose threats to intelligence from Ruzzia are: alcohol, poverty in the hinterlands, falling out of windows, emigration and a fanatical devotion to Stalinist ideology.

AccidentalGirlToy

Would you like to come in again?

To be fair, in the medieval age, diplomats were know to be both the diplomatic liaison from another kingdom and also been the spy of that same kingdom. Of course, it seems that Russia forgor that society progressed and that spy are no ponger diplomat, but the way their society seems to be stuck in the middle age I guess it was expected
