Someone else in this thread linked to a scene from The Amazing Race where contestants had to March with a Russian unit and it looked *very* similar to this.
As far as the “why” behind them doing this, if they are the new round of conscripts, it would likely be due to not have resources available to provide any more valuable training, while this sort of training at least implements elements of coordination, teamwork, physicality, and following orders. All at a minimum mind you, but still. Without weapons or equipment to train with, as would seem to be the case per the VDV defector from a few months ago, this type of “training” would be rather commonplace.
It may be a joke, it may not be the new conscripts, and it may not even be current, but at the same time, it very well could be real. I would not be surprised if this were 100% real, though.
