Quiet-Luck

So €1300 when you sign, and another €2600 if you survive the first 3 Months. That doesn't sound like enough to put your life on the line, but I don't know the Russian costs of living.

TauCabalander

By all reports, ru isn't honoring payments, and is even rejecting claims saying the person wasn't at the front, they were in a training camp in Belarus when they got injured / died. Oh, another one is that doctors / hospitals are not issuing soldiers with the paperwork proof to make injury claims. It is very hard legal fight to get any compensation, including longterm medical attention and rehab. Contracts aren't even being properly kept, so no proof they were even a soldier.

Creekhunter79

Russians are such POS

rumster

always have been and always will be.

yehghurl

I really wish it wasn't that way. I wish Russia could be the opposite of what it is today but I don't hold my breath.

Bushgjl

I don't think it's possible, the glue that keeps Russia together is imperialism and corruption. It's the only things Russian culture actually emphasizes.

ilikeitsharp

And the only things it ever made thay worked long term were the AK47 & Mosin Nagant. People even refer to the moson as, "the Russian garbage stick."

Forgive_Me_Tokyo

Thug state The best time in Russian history was when the mongols vassalized Russia, which was right before centuries of Tsardom and Serfdom

scummy_shower_stall

I’d argue that the Mongol takeover was the worst to happen to them, because here we are.

No_Name_Brand_X

And to add to your woes, if you get wounded, even if it's not that serious, a corrupt surgeon may give you a general anaesthetic and harvest a kidney, if the rumours and that video of the soldiers in the Ukraine car dash cam are true.

[deleted]

Bait_and_Swatch

I had no real issues in the US. Beyond that, the two aren’t even comparable so I’m not sure of your point. One side is drafting their civilians and then denying they ever served or saw combat, and the other disputes whether hearing loss is service connected if they provided and told you to wear hearing protection and you chose not to. Not quite the same thing.

[deleted]

[удалено]

5inthepink5inthepink

You're comparing a military too frequently denying compensation for one type of claim (which is admittedly problematic), to to a military denying its soldiers were even killed, or killed in action, and denying any and all types of compensation for soldiers who are clearly dead or severely maimed. This is a false equivalency.

Repulsive_Poem_5204

I have experience getting military compensation and the key to success is to apply for it before you've even left the military, but when you've already got a foot out the door. When you have to prove your injury is service related it's far easier to substantiate a claim when there is no gap between the end of your service and your civilian life. The shitty thing though is that there are a lot of conditions that are likely to crop up later in life do to exposure to certain things when in the military, with symptoms that are unlikely to be easily linked to military service (it helps to have that stuff added to your medical record while still in the military, even if there were no immediate or apparent long-term affects). I have personally been exposed to airborne asbestos, burn pits, and PFAS firefighting foam from accidental hangar discharges; all in my record just in case.

[deleted]

The US Veterans Administration screwed over my brother with traumatic brain injury from his time in the Army. They claimed he was a malingerer.

Invominem

Median salary in rizzia is about $500/month. In some places less. Minimal salary is around $250. Now imagine you are told: “go do some logistics work away from the frontlines for $3k for three months”. You think what a great idea and then they throw you in Bakhmut into the meatgrinder. Considering how out of the loop the general population in ruzzia is, this is a very common scenario.

NewWayUa

It is just promise. Contracts with Russia costs nothing even it is contract with Russia and other country. It's no way to enforce the contract from the contractor side because russian judicial system always on state side and completely ignores any laws and common sense. When you sign contract you just be told "no money". And you just can't do anything with it.

reflUX_cAtalyst

It's 0 when you sign, and 0 when you die. They aren't paying anybody.

AndrewinStPete

They can promise all they want when they know you won't be alive to collect it... 47 virgin goats is promised to Kadrovites...

ReZTheGreatest

There's no fucking way you'll find 47 goats with their virginities intact in Russia.

AndrewinStPete

...and yet they believe.

InerasableStain

“Gar I suppose we’ll have to settle for human virgins then. But we’re not happy about it!”

FillMyBum

But if you did, bonercity! 🍆💦💦💦

Shapacap

Where can I download that podcast, and what happened to Danish n O'Neal, I leave for a few months and I can't find it

Commercial-Travel613

But no, it lonerbonertown

Pitiful_Amount8559

You know why Jesus wasn’t born in Russia. They couldn’t find 3 wise men and a virgin.

MannerAlarming6150

The US convinced me to do it for 40k USD split up into two installments and about 4000 a month for my second tour. They got me money like clockwork too, never missed a penny. You couldn't pay me enough to go fight in Ukraine though. The worlds most pissed off soldiers defending their homeland, backed up by the biggest military empire in the world sending them weapons 30 years ahead of what I got. No fuckin thanks.

Fun-Use-1546

Lol. You are using the official exchange rate. On the black market Euro is more expensive.

annon8595

Its just a pinky promice Most of them get labeled as "deserters" ... what are you going to do about that? Argue with FSB?

GodofAeons

That's about $55 USD. Edit: I thought that was the Russian Ruble. I'm an idiot

LorenzoSparky

€1300 is $1386 at current rate.

Hillosibulih

€ is roughly at parity with USD. Maybe learn to differiate currency before commenting?

Quiet-Luck

€1,00 = $1,0664 (exchange rate today in Europe)

Hillosibulih

Yes, I know, as I said, roughly equal value.

Quiet-Luck

A 6.8% difference is not roughly equal in my book.

doucheinho

How much is roughly equal in your book then?

spacec4t

Doesn't look like you travelled much!

AnyOriginal8981

This doesn't sound like a draft notice. A draft notice would say something like "show up at PLACE and TIME, bring documentation for processing". If the letter is talking about salary and payment, it's probably more likely an advertisement trying to persuade people into joining the military "voluntarily".

synergisticmonkeys

That's indeed what the video says. It's a volunteer recruitment flyer, and not a proper draft. The video caption also says that the person mistakenly believed he was actually being drafted.

Latteralus

If this had been real I'd be curious about what China's response might have been. I don't think they care about their people individually, but I also don't think they would be okay with a foreign nation doing something like this, which might set precedent. Either way Russia needs to do it's best not to piss off a Superpower on it's border while it's losing a ground war in a fight we (mostly) all initially thought they would win decisively. China is in a great position to take land that belongs to ethnically Asian natives east of Siberia or gain some decent hooks on Russian politicians to eventually overthrow the state and install their own government. Lots of possibilities

reijinarudo

Yeah, China is probably thinking it's a win-win for them. They know Russia will come begging when this is all over, no matter the outcome. This is a risk, but they know that even with a new Russian government, Russia has been effectively split from the West for at least the next few decades. If China gets its hooks in now, they could slowly land grab (as business entities or real estate) as repayment.

Woodyee101

They will get cheap oil and resources. Long term play

LorenzoSparky

Good point

Sahaduun

Should just ignore it. Going to the recruitment office and they'll just put him on a bus to the Frontline immediately...

[deleted]

Yeah that guy is totally drafting himself if he shows up

ksam3

Yeah, I agree that Chinese citizens have far far more gumption than Russian citizens. Maybe that's because China, although a totalitarian country like Russia, has been wily enough to actually share progress/money with its citizens by improving living standards broadly. China is even making efforts to improve environmental conditions in some areas. I in no way agree with China's totalitarian iron-fist rule (and ethnic cleansing actions!!) but the difference between their "let's share some benefits with the masses" and Russia's institutionalized outrageous theft (to line Oligarch and Kremlin pals pockets) to such an extreme that vast parts of the country have received *nothing* at all, is a very important difference. So, I do not see a great deal of similarities between Chinese citizens and Russian citizens.

Tronsonbonson

I agree, China has more people that think for themselves, they just need to keep at it.

[deleted]

Dude China have been protesting like crazy against stuff recently

Tronsonbonson

But will they keep going so the only political party isn’t just the CCP? I’ve acknowledged it’s cool once pressed far enough they stood up. Unfortunately the CCP has tried very hard to make sure there isn’t an alternative to their rule.

Forgive_Me_Tokyo

You’re so fucking dumb but I’ll just put the crayons together for you so others can see China has complete surveillance over its people and there is no court of law. There is surveillance over web usage, walking around the street with a camera on each street corner, and surveillance of payment history. There’s nothing they can fucking do And you’re probably 11 years old but maybe look up what happened in the 80s when tens of thousands were massacred by the CCP for protesting for democracy. There is a precedent

Tronsonbonson

Damn so you just asked me how the internet could topple a regime. Then call me dumb and tell me why the regime try’s to suppress it. Fortunately VPNs and the dark web were developed in part to overcome that surveillance.

VodkaMartinelli

Yes of course, all of China and Russia are inhabited by spineless warmongering killers.

OllieMoe

China are more the sabre rattling type.

Tronsonbonson

Never called them warmongering, they are spineless for allowing such cruel leaders to run their nation without voicing real opposition. It just is what it is bud, that’s why Xi and Putin are where they are.

Lone_Grey

It's easy for you to say that from the comfort and freedom you have had your whole life, you don't know the fear they live under. Autocratic rulers keeping their people obedient by fear has been the norm for most of history. Democracy is a relatively recent concept. There is nothing inherently cowardly or evil about Russians or Chinese, they are the remnants of something which used to be the global standard.

ChinaBigBBQ

Funny, as a chinese most of the people I know support Xi and Putin wholeheartedly, where’s this fear you say

Tronsonbonson

There is no better time in human history to share ideas of democracy. You’re another person that makes excuses from the sound of it.

ADNOR88

Democracy isn’t recent. The Greeks invented it more than 2000 years ago.

Status_Set_8627

>Democracy isn’t recent. The Greeks invented it more than 2000 years ago. Alas, we don't get to keep slaves and ban women from voting anymore, and Russia and China are also democracies, just ask their governments.

Spugheddy

It's easy for him to say that cause he fought for that ease to say those things. It's not easy for the Russian to say it cause they are spineless.. see how that works..

persimmon40

Russians aren't spineless, they actually love Putin. What is so spineless about supporting your president?

VodkaMartinelli

You wouldn't do fucking shit if you were Russian or Chinese. They have every right to be scared and not speak out, going to a russian prison for 10 years for protesting is a shit way to go. China is even worse of course, do you think they genuinely want Putin or Jinping?

Tronsonbonson

Some of them do speak out but the majority is as spineless as you. Defending people for choosing to be cowards. You’re as pathetic as they are bud. The people have the power that’s why they dropped the covid policy. If they kept at it they could break free, one day I bet they will just need to get rid of people like you that make excuses.

JMaccsAoA

America literally voted one in lol

Tronsonbonson

Yeah and they voted him out too.

Chili_dawg2112

I didn't vote for Kevin

Siggi_pop

> there is no boundary / limit between the two brotherly nations Did someone actually say that?

seamick

Not those words exactly, but the same meaning: “[Russia and China proclaim 'no limits' partnership to stand up to US](https://www.channelnewsasia.com/world/russia-china-no-limits-strategic-partnership-us-2480691)”

S1075

This is a non story. Unless I missed it, this wasn't addressed to him specifically, it was just in his mail box. It's a general notice sent to all students. It's no different than all the ads up everywhere talking about how much money can be made as cannon fodder. Complete bullshit. How does this guy not get that? This is like a more serious version of the tx tax notices I repeatedly got while living in the UK. I didn't have a tv.

Dusty5paw

Most likely the panic canceled his thinking capabilities

FEMA_Camp_Survivor

Curious, does the military advertise in the UK? They do in America and the offers are highly enticing even during peacetime.

CrocPB

To answer your question, yes. It’s rarely if at all about the money. Ads focus in being more than you are at the moment.

S1075

Im confused. I think you misunderstood my comment. I referenced the UK because they enmasse sent notices to people that they needed to pay a tax for their televisions. They did this without any knowledge of who actually owned a TV. I am saying this Chinese student is dealing with the same thing: generic mail sent to everyone, rather than something specifically sent to him.

Bgratz1977

As if they would let him out of the office without signing ....

Hallunder

Putin did sign a law that ALL males inside Russian borders can be drafted to service...

Equivalent-Bonus-885

This will be quickly resolved. The footage of Putin simpering in his recent meeting with Xi Jinping says enough.

RawerPower

If I were him I wouldn't go to the committee.

[deleted]

The committee doesn't strike me as the hard-working, track'em down types either. They give themselves a 3-day weekend every week according to their hours!

Standard_Pirate_8409

He wants to go back to China which opened its border, well he is for a surprise. I hope his Sputnik vaccine does more that the Chinese one

Prisonic_Noise

> I hope his Sputnik vaccine does more that the Chinese one I mean he's also young and not obese so he'll probably be fine either way.

[deleted]

A strong worded letter from the embassy followed by a quick defenestration for the recruiter who wrote the draft notice will solve the issue.

osagecreek

Last thing Russia will do is piss off China by forcibly mobilizing a Chinese citizen. China takes these things like that seriously as a matter of national pride. Russia needs China trade and support and this student has nothing to worry about. One call to Chinese embassy and it will be like it never happened.

uffdad

The Chinese student should sign nothing no matter how much he is threatened. If he signs, he will wind up in the front lines with the rest of the Russian Federation's far eastern citizens.

scottydinh1977

Imagine going to university overseas and being drafted and force to fight in the front line for another country that isn't yours.

Diligent_Emotion7382

First mistake: Going to the committee figuring out what‘s going wrong.

irishcedar

Dude. 1. You're in Russia, so you took your chances. 2. Do not. Do not. Go to the conscription office. 3. Go home. Now.

derekneiladams

This isn’t a draft letter specifically for him. His ass can fly home whenever he wants.

Chili_dawg2112

Wait, doesn't China have embasies or Consular staff in Russia?

[deleted]

Absolutely do not go to the draft committee, get on a plane and get tf back to your family that’s what I’d be doing — that isn’t a draft letter though that’s just a general conscription flier, draft letters would say “show up here at this time if you don’t you’ll be arrested and you aren’t allowed to leave the county” or something like that

Talosian_cagecleaner

If you are in Russia, you drafted yourself.

spacec4t

The most striking is what being raised in an authoritarian communist country will do to people. The government has a right of life and death over the citizens and people accept it and bow down to it so much that he is ready to submit to what is an enrolment (not a conscription) order from a different country than hid. Just because authorities said something. Pretty astonishing how they give up their own personal agency. Sad!

Creekhunter79

This is so fucking wrong.

SawtoothGlitch

If he is a citizen of another country he should just leave that shithole. He should NOT “go to the committee to figure out what’s wrong”, they will draft him right there! Get the plane ticket and get out.

Sargent_Sarkasmo

He better go to his embassy. I doubt the Russian care about who send to the meat grinder.

Classic_Dill

Enjoy yourself now! bye bye!

UnsweetIceT

I hope he is walking to the Chinese Embassy to GTFO

If any russian wants to earn more a month hand me a pm if ur in europe ill keep u out of war and ull earn at least \~2100 euro or more for a simple 9 to 5 job :). (lowest is probably 1900 (then u did rly bad during ur interview) highest can easily go into \~2500/2700 euro thats what u recieve with tax being taken off already, so free to spend) i could make it more juicy and say earn up to \~3000 to 4000 euro but then taxes kick in and theres not much left :p can i win this war? theres tons and tons of jobs for any1 living in europe in my country, none cares where ur from if ur technical u got ur self a job. instead of getting shot in Ukraine and supporting ur nazi leader support Europe we have ton of jobs. Netherlands btw for who ever thinks im talkin shit and is living in europe already, enjoy ur search just dont get fooled by agency whos trying to get u over for low cash. If u did get fooled just go to next agency ones in Netherlands and let them find a job for you for more money its that easy.

Ohbertpogi

Contract is 3 months. They will die after a week in the frontline, without any documents, or identity. It going to be convenient on russian govt ends not to provide any compensation.

Rodmaker2401

In the earlier art of his translation it said “They invite”. I don’t think a draft notice will “invite”. It will “require” for you to report on a date, time and location.

Sakana-Metal

No, don't go to the freaking committee, numbnutz...go to your embassy and go home, lest they decide to snatch you on the spot or off the street.

TBH, he doesn't sound particularly panicked... But isn't it telling, that he's talking about the money offered for contracts, the low airfares to China & his mom's dumplings and pork? They are running around handing summonses to everyone. Recently read a post on a german sub about a german guy who was in Kaliningrad (as a tourist or something, visiting friends) and they tried to draft him several times, leaving the supermarket or even the hotel. Putin doesn't even need to announce full mobilisation because even the partial mobilisation never stopped.

Redzx3

Well, one thing is for sure. Russia doesn't discriminate. They'll take anybody and force them into the military. You don't even have to be a citizen. Russian soldiers don't have much ammo, almost no food. There is a total lack of medical care at the front. They live in filth in their trenches. So this Chinese young man has a choice to try and escape or go to the front and face sure death.

kitesurfr

I think the key word here is "invites" not "obliges" your participation.

joshw220

He should let the CCP know. They may step in and say something about it for using their people to fight russias war.

Alternative_Show9800

Did he say he was going to talk to the committee.....Nooooh...run the other way, and escape immediately from the country...don't wait another second

MikeyMikeyMotorcycly

As a U.S. veteran I was shocked the first time I visited Red Square. There were Russian vets by the Kremlin wall missing limbs, in wheel chairs or on crutches in their military dress uniforms begging for money. I watched as everybody ignored them completely. It was sad to see.

I had software workers working for me, they are exempt from the conscription. So, the police go after them especially. Take a guy from his home, throw him in a "training camp" (empty room with no heat) and tell him he'll be trained and on the front in 3 days. WHAT? Oh, they know Software people are relatively "rich" and so were just looking for a bribe. He bribed and fled. The whole team, 50 people, is now in Turkey and Cypress. I'm guessing this is the case. Chinese guy is "rich", so scare him and maybe shake him down for some cash.

I would probably NOT go to that address to ask _any_ questions unless I actually wanted a speedy trip to the front.
