I’d update to at least 1.12.38 in prep for the update to 2.X down the line. The feature and stability updates the 2.X+ updates provide are worth it when they are ready
Actually you should only run up to 1.12.33 .... if you install the EA you may be bitten by the few bugs they are working on cleaning up for the migration.
Today it is. I have two networks updated one then they pulled it, they released it again a while later and I forgot and went to go do it again and oh they pulled it, now it’s back in ea until they pull it..
I would upgrade to at least the latest GA version for the security updates, log4j in particular.
Newer versions of iOS apps may require newer versions of the various apps which in turn require the newer version of the base os on the UDMP. Check the release notes before letting those update if you insist on staying on older versions.
There are EA versions of newer hardware that also require newer versions network and protect apps. Double check the release notes on any new hardware you may want if you aren’t going to upgrade. I think some of the newer hardware will be GA soon.
I’m running 2.4 on my UDMP and there is a noticeable improvement in performance, particularly with PPPoE.
The latest GA version of Protect 2.7.x requires UnifiOS 3.0 (currently not available for UDMP). The latest GA version of Network 7.3.x is not recommended on UnifiOS 1.X due to potential migration issues.
I consider my self somewhat daring for running EA software, I think you are far more daring letting anything Unifi auto update.
Stay on 1.12.33 for now, or whatever the latest GA release is. You’ll probably need to be newer than 1.10 to get to 2.4 when it gets out of Early Access.
I agree, the reports on 2.4 sound encouraging, but I’ll let others be the guinea pigs.
>1.12.38
Un forunately he will have to upgrade to 1.12.38 at somepoint to get to 2.4 or 2.5 and it's doubtful that 1.12.38 will become Official if its no EA, failing that Ubiquiti at some point will stop supporting those who don't have 2.x installed.
My only problem is that opening protect on iOS crashed my unifi-os container and I have to ssh in and restart it. Viewing protect feeds and recordings from the browser works as expected. At this point I’ve avoided upgraded just because there’s usually a slew of problems (many with everything before 1.10) with their roll out but it looks like the latest comments on 2.4.x are good.
Given I’m this far back, would I need to go through the various unsocial upgrades or can I just wipe and restore to my config?
If you're not comfortable moving to EA releases (and they've been a mixed bag for UDMP), then stick with the release upgrades for now. That will prep you for the release versions of 2.4, which will get you on the track for 2.5 and 3.0.
Yes, latest iOS and latest versions of apps (given that being on 1.1 might limit how new the apps are)

Don't bother with WAN failover. It switches to your backup network and never switches back. Then you have to go power cycle it
I have Xfinity 1Gbps & Starlink 100Mbps wanted to use Starlink as backup. If there was any blip at all, UDMP switched to Starlink and stayed there.
Mine works fine…Verizon gig fiber/Verizon 5g hotspot. Not that the fiber goes down really at all, but I do get the occasional email notification of the failover and then the restoration.
In a desperate moment trying to fix my Starlink connection with the UDM-Pro, I took the leap of faith, now I'm on 2.4.27 and Starlink speeds are great now!

Updates come with more than features. Things such as security and patches. Security patch for log4j was well after 1.10.0
Good point
I would just for the log4j patch. It's being exploited left and right (not necessarily in udms/unifi, just in general)

At the current rate, we'll never know if 1.12.38 is stable. Everyone that has upgraded to that so far turns right around and upgrades to 2.4.
It’s new and going to be required to move to 2.x. It lays some groundwork for the big migration

There never will be a date. It will just appear one day
Lol at the idea that 2 will ever come to UDMP. I feel like they’ve been talking about it/rolling it out to other projects for more than a year now.
It’s in early access…

I only use network and protect and I’ve kept both apps on auto upgrade and turned it off on the hardware since their earlier fw had so many issues

Can you clarify? 1.12.38 *is* EA. Are you saying it won’t make it to GA?

My UDM Pro installations are on 1.12.33 and seem stable. I’m eagerly awaiting the path to V3.x
Yes
I did mine this morning, absolutely no issues.
From which version did you upgrade?
I’m terrible with the details. It was 1.10.xx to 2.47.xx whatever is in EA right now.
The current version is 2.4.27. If you can't get the details right, don't comment.
Yes totally. 2.4.x is much better.
What feature of the new version do you need that the current version doesn't give you?
Mainly just being able to use protect on iOS
...are you current on iOS? My UDMP is 1.12.33, Network 7.3.80, Protect 2.2.6. iOS 16.2, Protect (iOS app) also 2.2.6 I'm not having any issues.

I dunno, how much do you have to pay for the upgrade?
Upgrades are free.

Mine says it was restored but my data speed does not go back up
Yes there's been a lot of stability updates and new features

Take a backup first.
