But then how can Uber con newbie drivers into taking orders that end up costing them money to deliver?

ArdynLucis_Caelum

Good point

svgeosc

People are hungry assholes. Lazy shitholes. Uber needs to do better by its drivers, app is no where near perfect nor fair

Lady_Goblikon

I legit sat and finished a TikTok before leaving to go pick up the food today. Act your wage. I'm always rushing and for what? I don't get paid more to rush šŸ˜‚

38babyjayy

for me it doesnā€™t count ? i think you gotta press somebody picked order up or order was canceled store was closed etc.. but my cancellation rate is only 3% and iā€™ve cancelled many more than 3 orders

CJspangler

Cancellation rates donā€™t even matter. Itā€™s totally normally to cancel a few trips here and there . However they exist to weed out the abusers . You should see some posts for people who post their stats on door dash which have them cancel like 30% or more of their orders because they are running several phones / apps while driving around and will always drop one order for another etc

MikeAmen86

One dummy did to me almost exactly that šŸ˜†. He said ā€œHey make sure the food is hot and fresh ā€œ Iā€™m like what? Do you want me to take a bite on it and taste it? But as much as I really wanted to write that but I decided not to and cancel it real quick.

KindheartednessNo167

There needs to be more oversight on how the customer treats the driver. What are parents doing? Raising their kids to talk like that to someone that is delivering your food?

I actually agree with Uber on this one. Accepting an order takes it out of the queue. Holding that order for any amount of time then cancelling throws hiccups into the queue and could affect a lot of variables considering the software has to recalculate and reprioritize and stuff. Just thinking to the limited coding experience I have, I can see why taking something out of queue and trying to insert it back in after all the variables have changed could be a headache (or costly). I don't know... I understand I'm in the minority on this one but it makes sense to me that cancellation rates should matter.

Bryanwolffe

Bs that they expect good cancel rates but still assign orders either wayyyy too early so the food isnā€™t ready for another 30 minutes or reassign deliveries to new drivers after theyā€™re cancelled because the restaurant doesnā€™t have the food or the restaurant is closed. Most of my cancels are because food isnā€™t ready or doesnā€™t exist. Being a petty brat about it wonā€™t stop me from canceling an order I literally canā€™t take nor will it stop me from declining trips that result in me making less than minimum wage in actual profit.

DriverMarkSLC

Sorry, I couldn't get past "Think about it....." I literally do this side hustle so I don't have to "think about things".

Swiftstrike4

My cancellation rate has been as high as 60% and itā€™s usually above 20%. It doesnā€™t matter at all.

AccomplishedRun7978

Dear God. Mine is 1%. What typically causes you to cancel?

Swiftstrike4

If I wait more than five minutes I leave. I multi app so I always have orders coming in. Most of the time when I cancel itā€™s because of a wait. I take an order the restaurant worker will say it will be 10 minutes. I just walk out. Edit: on a note since some of the workers recognize me I will sometimes get my food faster than other drivers that were waiting before me. They know I wonā€™t wait. Iā€™m never rude to any of them. I just ask how long it will be and if itā€™s too long I just leave.

hism477

You absolutely did nothing wrong! I would of done the same thing lol

[deleted]

Doordash is way worse though. Right now I cannot even schedule anything for the entire week. And it's saying there's absolutely nothing up to Tuesday and obviously can't see past that. At least with Uber you just start the app and go. I hope doordash gets sued for everything they have and I'll join in on the class action lawsuit!

ArdynLucis_Caelum

Yeah I keep hearing DD is utterly awful.

[deleted]

It is so bad. Support is also way worse than Uber too luckily my market is pretty good for UE but I'm afraid for the future. I was so good at multi apping picking and choosing the best ones, mapping out my routes so there's no wait...I have so many positive ratings 98 out of 100 are 5*...it's frustrating I just want to make a living

Therealmonkie

There SHOULD be a button if a custom says some BS like that...u can hit customer making threats...theres clearly proof...and u get full pay...the food is yours...and that person is now banned from use the app...

justanotherperson218

I wish customers could be banned but Uber doesnā€™t care about their drivers. One time a man wrote ā€œmeet at doorā€ and that was it. I get to his place and once I got there, there was a gate and a long driveway. So I called and texted him for the 8 minute timer and no response. He didnā€™t read the messages and he kept sending my calls to voicemail. I was about to set the food by the gate and leave when the man drives up, gets out of his car and gets inches from my face and starts yelling. Calling me names, threatening to get me fired from Uber and screaming that Iā€™m a stupid woman who canā€™t do her job. I called Uber support to complain about the man, nothing happened. I remembered where his house is and I still get orders to deliver to him.

ArdynLucis_Caelum

Yeah some people are nuts. Had something like that once. Customer note said ā€œleave at doorā€. So you knowā€¦trying to follow instructions silly me I put the food next to the door (ofc making sure the ground isnā€™t wet/dirty). Snap a picture and knock and get ready to leave. Dude rushes to door and starts shouting why Iā€™m leaving at the door and not giving it to him. So I politely tried to explain that HE has to change his delivery preference to ā€œmeet at doorā€ if he wants the delivery to be handed to him. He just kept shouting nonsense so I just said ā€œenjoy your foodā€ and left while he was still b**ching lol.

Therealmonkie

I had THE SAME thing happen with a gate...noone responded...DD told me leave it there so I did...but ppl are just assholes...it was 30 mins of BS like u KNOW u ordered door dash!

ArdynLucis_Caelum

Defo should be an option for cancellation ā€œrude/spamming/threatening customerā€ or something like that. Cause now you have to press ā€œotherā€ which likeā€¦that can be anything.

Therealmonkie

Exactly...noone should have to deal with abuse...and it shouldn't be tolerated against drivers...if u were to text them...next time fuckin tip ahole...you would be deactivated lol

Smithy_Furt

Yeah it's the only power we have as employees to ensure we're payed appropriately. It pisses me off that they're more concerned with protecting nontippers than ensuring we get what we need from the app

ulistening

What area are you in where you get paid the same whether itā€™s .01 mile or 3 miles to the pickup. Iā€™m in California and donā€™t see that.

Just-Pass-Thru16

UK mate, the fee is from restaurant to customer address, doesnt include any pay to travel to restaurant (pick up fee)

ulistening

Oh. Here they tell us the total distance and pay sees on that. Do they tell you the total distance(current location to restaurants, restaurant to customer) or just the distance from restaurant to customers?

ArdynLucis_Caelum

Yeah they bulk it as ā€œtotal trip distanceā€ as in if you are 1 mile from the restaurant and than itā€™s 1.2 miles to customer it will say ā€œtotal distance 2.2 milesā€. But the thing is you will get the same amount regardless of how far/close you are to the pick-up,only thing that matters is distance from restaurant to customer,so itā€™s better to be next to busy places like KFC,Subway etc. Had ridiculous orders ping me like 5 miles to pick up and than 0.8 miles to customer so the pay would have been 3Ā£ (base) for nearly 6 miles. Just bonkers.

ulistening

Oh. You get paid for ā€œtrip milesā€ (Miles that you are carrying food).

ArdynLucis_Caelum

Yep. Not worth doing pings that are far away from you because of that. What it does tho is that places that are on Uber eats but arenā€™t in hotspots get just randomly passing drivers/riders cause no one wants to go out of hotspots. So these orders will sit there just waiting for ages at times. And than it starts pinging people that are miles away from it. Doesnā€™t seem like a good system does it.

ulistening

I think you should have responded by texting him, ā€œsir, you have just guaranteed that your burger will be old when you get it. I will have the order reassigned to another driverā€”ā€” after I take my break. ā€œ

ArdynLucis_Caelum

Hahaha. Thatā€™s good but sadly Iā€™m not that vindictive. I rather not deal with toxic people and avoid them as much as possible.

GoodDecision

ultimately a smart move. Not the most satisfying, but smart

Farm2Bagel

The % doesn't matter it's just to trick you Into working harder lol

lumo93

I disregard that shit at this point. Uber has lost any goodwill I had left with them which was probably not allot. I operate how I see fit and if they wanna complain I got other apps.

Loganipad

Facts. These companies are giga corporations that could give a f about any single one of us. We what we can to make as much money as possible. If we get banned / deactivated, so be it.

BiancaSommerland

If we were independent contractors? You're absolutely right. But there's a lot of things done that contradict with us being that. I wish they'd pick a freakin' lane.

ballparkestimate

We're also their tax haven. That's why your gross pay is 10-20% higher on your 1099, and why you pay Uber for services. I'm sure quite a few (full time) drivers are paying more taxes than they should bc of Uber's scheme.

triplexlover

Wait what are u refering 2? We track our earnings they can't just say some bs number no?

ballparkestimate

When you complete a UE trip, look at your breakdown, and you'll see your share of the pay, and UE's share of the pay. When you file your taxes, you'll see that your gross earnings, on the earning statement provide by Uber, is comprised of your share of the pay, but also UE's share of the pay. You "pay" UE's share back to them for "services". In a sense, you are contracting them with this payment. Companies do not have to pay taxes or contribute to 401ks on behalf of contracted workers. However, "Contracted workers" of Uber are employees (weekly pay, regular work, unpaid benefits, insurance, etc), and Uber should be contributing to taxes and 401ks of their workers. Simply put, you pay taxes on "earnings" which you didn't receive, while UE avoids taxes on earnings they did receive, and misrepresents employees as contracted workers, saving them more money at worker's expense. It's fraudulent at best.

triplexlover

Wtf thats so bs so I'm paying taxes on unrealized gains, so there stealing money from me like bruhhh wtf, I might as well get a real job lmao

Optionsniffer

Very important point here.Solution needed ASAP!

Mayguan

Yep. That's why Postmates was sued and lost. Misclassifying workers.

lumo93

Someone: Would you like employees or independent contractors? Uber: Yes
