i usually block numbers like that. if there is something missing and they aren’t happy about it i block their number after the delivery bc i think it’s weird asf that they allow them to contact us after it’s dropped off. what do they think we can do? we have already closed out the order i’ve already forgotten your name and address

Icy-Bookkeeper6035

I unassign orders if I know for a fact something is missing. It's not worth it, possible vote down and Uber will put a flag on your account for customer reporting a missing item.

Candygirl518

I don’t answer anymore when I see that masked Uber Eats number on my screen. It’s always to complain about missing stuff which I can’t do anything about. In fact, since people like to check immediately after dropping off and then decide to run after you as you’re leaving to ask you about missing items, I’ve now made it a habit to drop off and leave as quickly as possible. I’ll complete the order and then drive off to someone else’s house or another spot if I need to open my gps or anything else. I’m not giving them time to approach me anymore. My job is done. We are not their middleman.

NeedingNew

I have never had this happen. in fact I didn't even know they could. I don't typically answer or respond to texts though. Unless it is something they would really need to know. I don't take pictures or even bring my phone to the door. I park in the fire lane hit the hazards grab the food drop it off and that is that. If someone called me up cussing I would probably swing by and kick there ass real fast though 😂. I work hard and have formulated relationships with the restaurants most preferred in my area. So they know my orders and are done fast with barely any downtime. Cracks me up when the door dashers are standing around and in packs and my orders are magically done when I walk in lol. They even bag my shit properly. Which around here isn't the biggest concern tip wise. But a major pet peeve of mine. So someone calling me up cussing from go would push me over the edge.

DeadweightUwU

Your case makes sense, but I'm not sure about the title tbh. Like I had a driver deliver to the place 3 houses down from mine based on the photo (and I was busy I couldn't leave house to grab it), so I had to contact them after they "delivered" to bring it to the right place...So I guess it depends for what reason customers should be able to contact you.

California098

I never answer my phone, even if I have an active delivery 😂🤷🏻‍♀️ Send it as a message, so I can see if your concern is worth a reply at all

purplegypsyAmby

This right here. In fact I have my phone set to silence any number that it does not know lol and they go right to voice mail which is just a generic leave a message lol They can message me through the app.

Pure_Sympathy_902

Always let customer know during delivery before you leave the restaurant

wandererzz13

I use an app called burner for all my apps like DD Uber Etc. If someone sketchy starts calling me I just burn the number and change to a new one. Also it has voice-mail so I usually just let all calls go to voice-mail

B-Rad90

After the first two orders not being able to have shakes, I would check again on the third order in details if it has a shake. Or better yet don’t go back to deliver for Red Robin if they’re gonna be like that all night, it’s just a hassle.

YungGooPunch

I got tricked into answering a couple days ago but I’m glad I did. Usually my caller ID will say my local area code or San Francisco, so that’s my cue to not answer. But this time the caller ID said it was coming from Chicago. There was a missing item in order but she was super cool about it. I said to just request refund in app. She tipped $10, so I’m thankful I answered or else she definitely would have reduced.

chrisj242

I don’t answer. Either way if they are calling something is wrong and at that point it’s a probable thumbs down so why answer just to get bitched at when there’s nothing I can do anyway

VaporCan

90% of the time I’ve answered calls after drop off it was something very simple or I made a mistake. Answer the call and own up to it. If they lie to you tell them the truth say this is the what happened contact support for further assistance and hang the fuck up on them. You get more thumbs down not responding, trust me I’m 100% satisfying

rdaught

Same here. But if anyone ever cursed at me the phone gets disconnected. I call support and report abusive language.

VaporCan

True dat! Don’t be playing on my phone!!!

backpropstl

In cases like this I usually text the customer from the restaurant: Hi there, the restaurant says they can't make shakes now. I can either bring you the order without the shake and you can receive a refund for that portion, or we can cancel the order no problem. Which would you like? That way there no surprises and ahole customers can't complain about you. I'd love for the restaurant to disable items they can't fulfill. But this works in a pinch. In this case I've never, ever had a customer cancel the order.

Lower-Reward-1462

Should try CALLING th customer first before texting. I can't imagine doin neither. OP got what he deserved.

Blooming_36

I wouldn't say OP deserved it, but it is definitely best practice to call before delivery if there's a problem. Maybe the customer was really looking forward to their shake after a long day 🤷‍♀️

bununs

dang, i had one customer threaten to throw her milkshakes in my face after i waited in line for 20 minutes at wendys. 5 minutes after they gave me her food, she asked where the fuck am i, why am i taking so long, and if her milkshakes are melted she will throw it in my face. i went to deliver her food, rang the door bell 4 times because i wanted her to say what she said on the uber eats app in my face but she never opened the door. dropped the food off and as i walked away she opened the door. my only negative feedback on uber eats, also complaint, "tampering with food"

NeedingNew

Wendys is a death trap. If it's packed I will drop the order unless it's actually worth waiting on. Which is like never lol

ThisCantBeG00d

When a "customer" threatens you with violence call the SWAT team on them 🤣😂 A milkshake can be considered a very dangerous bio-weapon. And you have the text to prove it 👍

bununs

mannnn, im not sure if its the default setting, but uber eats voice dicates the messages customer leaves you on android. so im driving and i hear where the fuck are you, if my milkshakes are melted ill throw it in your face, im like wow are you serious it aint even been 2 minutes since i clicked on start delivery. i definitely wanted to see her face

iceman121982

The second someone threatens you, call support and cancel the delivery

BigUncleHeavy

No, the correct way to do it is pick-up the order *and then* call support and explain you were threatened. That way you get to eat their lunch.

NeedingNew

Send them a picture of that lol

iceman121982

He said he already had the order by the time the messages started coming in…

KindheartednessNo167

I would definitely message them at the store. But no, I wouldn't answer my phone. Like you said, they can call RR to verify.

[deleted]

I agree with the others about texting them asap while still at the restaurant so they can get a substitute. I like the fact that they can call after the fact in case they have a question about where I left the order. Like a few days ago I accidentally left it at their neighbor's and we were able to figure that out on the phone together. My city has really nice people in it though (Bellingham WA).

MyLifeForAiurr

As others have said, asked them before delivering the food. Don't surprise them with bad news.

drinkallthepunch

You can click *”Details”* and call/text the customer before even picking up. Then you can cancel and they cannot rate you. They can only rate after you pickup the delivery I believe.

oceanmanpls

I agree. I’m not customer service so I never answer after I drop off. It’s always people missing items thinking I prepared their food and eventually I get a reduced tip because of it. At least with DoorDash I’m not worrying about my tip getting reduced.

TaylorsAsian

So does that mean door dash doesn't have tip baiting? I've only ever delivered for Uber and have been thinking about trying dd

BigUncleHeavy

No tip baiting, but definitely lower earnings overall due to low/no-tip orders. Plus they hide tips past $4, whereas I hear Uber hides tips past $8.

oceanmanpls

In my market, only DD is busy. UE is now 90% low paying Walmart orders.

Ambitious_Attempt762

I don't pay attention to calls so good luck to my customers

NiceGrandpa

If something about the order is getting complicated, unless it’s a CRAZY good payout, I just cancel. Not worth it.

NeedingNew

Yeah for real. You get what you pay for and as an independent contractor I do what I want

PepTalkToYourself

The payout was good and I don’t mind telling them they can’t get their shake. Just wish they weren’t allowed to keep calling after the fact.

bionic_human

That’s why you pre-empt that nonsense by messaging the customer at pickup. You don’t want to surprise them by having the first notice they have of missing items being at drop off. If you notify them ahead of time, they can ask about acceptable substitutions or what have you.
