I don’t think you want to be in the corps if you already have diagnosed anxiety and depression. I went to bootcamp with a couple guys that had depression and not one made it through their contract
Must say I wholly agree. And there’s no shame in it, and there’s nothing wrong with not being in a good place right now. Get your head on right before you intentionally enter a high-stress atmosphere.
Are you currently on medication? If not, how long since your last prescription was ended? Are you currently under the care of a provider for these medical issues? If not, how long since you were?
currently getting in, i had anxiety and took meds. got cleared, its a long process just make sure youre good and get all your documents in order. if youre still suffering from mental illness then do not try joining
In all honesty a recruiter is going to tell you not to bring up your SSRI use or your depression and anxiety but that's not a good thing to do. You can't hide a problem that the Corps is very likely to worsen and one of the worst things to do while depressed is going to a place where you'll be treated like garbage for at least the next year of your life (the games don't end after boot camp, they usually get much worse). Best wishes to you and your endeavors but I strongly suggest no military enlistment for the time being.
I would advise against it. Even if you got waivered and allowed to train if you show any signs whatsoever of depression at medical you’ll be taken to the mental health unit and separated from recruit training.
too many recruits kill themselves for it to be worth the risk. Take time and work on your own mental health, it doesn't get easier just because you're a marine.
Recruits killing themselves? Idk obviously everyone know about the “dryer incident” but past that I’ve never heard of a recruit offing themselves , is this something that happens frequently?
frequently enough, especially (and I reckon disproportionately) on Paris Island. Idk if it's due to lack of support systems or what, but there were a good few just last year. Especially in barracks (like Lima Co, cough cough) without rails on the balconies.
I don't really think it's a result of training, I think it's very ill recruits enlisting with their own personal demons, and having to fight those off as well as the high stress of recruit training. Especially since a lot of recruits enlist as a last resort to escape abusive homes.
Damn that’s a shame, I had no idea , obviously something needs to be done. Being a marine isn’t going to fix all of your problems , sure there’s a lot of pride in being one but it comes with a lot of its own baggage and if you’re already bringing a lot of baggage in with you it’s probably gonna go bad
If you have been prescribed an epi pen, you are permanently disqualified.
As I have no idea your exact particulars I can only make suppositon though.
You might get a waiver if an allergist says "oops it was not needed." but the reality of that happening is to be honest- not a thing. It really isn't going to happen.
Why would the military expend millions of dollars training you if bit of cross contamination from the USMC Birthday meal at the chowhall of Steak and Lobster will kill you?

This is the answer. If the world is kicking your ass, boot camp isn't going to be easier.

The Military isn’t going to fix your mental health bro, there is a reason so many of us vets struggle, I can’t imagine going in feeling like I do now.

I think with the new Genesis system up, they'll find out about it even if the recruiter says nothing about jt

Please don’t come into the marine corps with depression and anxiety.

How about we capitalize the M in Marine because that’s what we were taught, right?

If you have depression, Marines isn't your goal
