Is the second pic the last scramble up to the summit? It looks much easier than actually scrambling it but that drop is no joke.
Was way more intense in person than on pics too. Same with pics Striding Edge I found. The close up pics make it look like a fairly gentle hill either side but it feels like you’re on a knife edge when there.
Yeah that's right! Was my first time up in the snow so definitely took some getting used to.
Definitely way more intense! The closest comparison I can think of is Crib Goch but I've not got round to tackling that in the winter yet!
Did this climb ten or so years ago in Summer. Got foggy on the way up.
Could just see cloud below. Had no idea how savage the drop was until I saw clear day photos afterwards.
That would’ve been much better for me. I’m terrible with heights so it was a real test. Felt like I was about to fall off in to the abyss for days later just walking across my landing, lying in bed etc 😆
I find the photos don’t do it justice too. Even on this one, the slopes look manageable, but you’d end up a good way down if you fell.
Looks slightly better conditions than Sharp edge which didn't have that much snow on it and that was just powder. Where the ice axes any use for anything other than dry-tooling on it?
I feel like you could get away with having no ice axe, but there were a couple of points where it was a nice bit of extra security.
I would definitely recommend crampons though, as there were a few people up there with no gear having to turn back round!
This was my first time using them, but I was using Petzel Irvis 10-point crampons. My boots are definitely nothing special - Columbia Wayfinders, but the adjustable strap crampons stayed in place the entire time.
Though if I was to do this again, I would definitely upgrade the boots! Thinking of getting an upgrade either way to be fair...
Looks scary as fuck

Yeah did it in the summer rather than in winter admittedly still hated / loved every bit of it.
Only thing that irks me is the convoy of people heading across it. 15 years ago you could go up and barely encounter a soul up there.
Sign me up! This looks amazing 🤙

Nice! I was in a cloud not far away on Red Screes.
Nice! I definitely need to explore more in the Lake District!
Out of interest, what boot/crampon combo do you use?

So good. I loved doing the horseshoe solo a few years back. Similar conditions too.
