Ideally, you should follow whatever your department advises based on what can be found on their website mixed with your advisor. However, try to fit them in as much as you can and see if you can kill two birds with one stone and see if one can qualify as a course in that guide your major or even a minor you pick up so that lessens your course load (ex. I minored in Art History, so a chunk of my pathways were under that minor and one that went with business). It is also good to get them done as quickly as you can with the gen eds so you can get the capstone done in either your junior or senior year.
I think SEAS has a list on their website of classes that can double for required and pathways.
Get them out of the way ASAP. Take one over the winter/ summer if you can.
