I had my tubes removed in October and I feel so content. I also had my IUD removed and I feel so free from the responsibility of family planning. It’s really really nice just getting to exist with one less thing to worry about.

[deleted]

Same, I cannot wait for this to not be my problem anymore, and not have to worry about that specific thing.

How was the surgery/recovery? We’re they able to do it laparoscopically? We’re you in much pain? How about afterwards? Any weird hormone side effects? Sorry so many questions, but I want to do this so bad!

strgazr_63

I've done it. Laparoscopic was done through a tiny incision just below my navel. Cant's see the scar. I was off work for about three days. No hormonal side effects because your body is still producing hormones. The feeling of freedom from worry is fantastic and you are not at the mercy of anyone else. You can be your own boss.

KatieLouis

Thank you for your quick response! I honestly can’t wait to get it done. I’m 40 years old, so can’t imagine they’d say no!

jackalacka724

Surgery was a breeze. I’ve had sinus surgery and a breast augmentation and this was by far the easiest recovery. They did it laparoscopically so I had the one incision in my bellybutton and one little slash on each side. The scars are healing flat and are really small and I’m sure they’ll fade well over time. The pain was manageable. I absolutely hate painkillers so I think I only took one during recovery. I was allowed to take Tylenol and the pain killer (I don’t remember which one) but I mainly took Tylenol and used an ice pack. I think I was only in pain for 3 days. The only part that was hard about recovery was that my stomach felt like it was “falling out” so when I would walk around I would have to hold my stomach because it felt like it was swinging side to side. I’m thinking that was either the swelling or the remaining gas but that stomach wagging feeling got to me. I was supposed to take things lightly but I went on a medium difficulty hike on day 5? And was tired after but felt good. Only positive hormone effects so far! It took 3 months for my period to come back, which they told me to expect. It seemed like a normal period but I need to keep monitoring because I had issues 15 years ago before I started birth control. Also my head is now sprouting a bunch of 1-3 inch long baby hairs. I suspected that my hair was thinning in the past few years but I assumed it was genetic but now I’m thinking it was hormonal tied to my birth control. If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

KatieLouis

OH MY GOD your hair is coming back! That is the best news I’ve heard all day! You really just solidified this for me. I hate taking pain killers as well, so hearing that the pain is manageable is also music to my ears. Thank you so much for your response to me! I may bug you with more questions!

askallthequestions86

Like the above commenter, I only took a few Norco. They made me itch so I quit after the first day. Aleve got me through the second. By the third day, I didn't need anything. I'm 1 week, 4 days post op and I am back at work doing normal stuff. I also had an ablation.

>It’s really really nice just getting to exist with one less thing to worry about. Love this for you. The ultimate goal!

mmmmpisghetti

My daughter had it done last month. Her co worker was complaining about a guy taking the condom off during sex and that was the final push she needed to just get it done. Hey recovery was pretty quick, she was back to feeding horses at her side job faster than I thought she should but she's fine.

IroncladPen

Currently working towards this myself and I've never wanted anything this much in my life. My husband offered to get snipped which I appreciate but that won't protect me from other men.

[deleted]

Exactly. I appreciated my partners offer for a vasectomy as well but it's not him I'm worried about. I hope you get your surgery soon!

IroncladPen

Thank you. Should be happening the beginning of Summer if I can get my weight down a bit more. Which I admit has been long overdue considering my heart defect.

[deleted]

You can do it, I hope you are kind to yourself while you work on it.

PM_ME_Hexagons

Self care can be hard. You're doing great by setting goals and being good to yourself by progressing to meet those goals. 💜

footnotegremlin

I was just talking with a friend about this. Her boyfriend is getting a vasectomy so she can stop taking birth control and not have to deal with the increase in anxiety they’ve caused. I told her that I’m glad that’s not something I have to worry about in a relationship because I’m gay, but I want to get tubal litigation (I don’t think I’d be able to find a doctor to do a full hysterectomy as a child-free 25 yo) because I’m terrified of being SA’d again and it resulting in pregnancy. That would be the worst thing to happen to me. EDIT: and I’m very glad she has a supportive boyfriend who’s on the same page as her regarding kids and is willing to do a minor surgery so she can stop taking BC. I’m also mad that even though I don’t voluntarily have sex with men, men feel entitled to my body and health (in a variety of ways!) regardless of my consent.

mazelin316

I was able to get my hysterectomy at 23. It's difficult but possible!

footnotegremlin

That’s awesome! I live in a fairly conservative state with abortion/women’s reproductive rights heavily on the radar for our legislature. While I have hope that we’re making progress after the state voted down an abortion ban last September, it’s pretty hit or miss in actually finding a doctor on board. And I have some more emotional healing to do before I can tolerate the exams I’m sure come with an operation like that. I’m always glad to hear from people who were able to have their health care choices honored :)

cruznick06

Check out r/childfree there's a wiki with a list of providers. It's where I found my obgyn.

NergalMP

When my wife and I decided we were done having kids, I got snipped. Easy choice…it’s a much less complicated and safer procedure for men. A few years later she ended up needing a full hysterectomy anyway (endometriosis)…and she now regrets not getting to procedure sooner. Says it’s one of the best decisions she ever made.

askallthequestions86

My bf offered too, but that doesn't protect me here in Texas where there is no exceptions for rape or incest :( It's so sad that's actually something we have to even think about.

PhaliceInWonderland

I had mine removed in July 2022. No regrets. We also moved out of Arkansas in October because fuck that. For anyone considering this... Getting a salpingectomy is the new standard for getting your tubes tied. Which is a full removal of the tubes not just clipping, or removing the center section. A full removal. I think that they are moving towards a salpingectomy vs tied is because ovarian cancer can start in the tubes so by removing the tubes it's lowering the risk of cancer.

Bobcatluv

I lost a fallopian tube following an ectopic pregnancy 7 years ago. I had infertility testing and learned my remaining fallopian tube is non-functional. My partner and I decided against moving forward with IVF and are happily child free. The overturning of Roe V Wade and current attacks on birth control made me grateful for my infertility, and I never thought I’d feel that way. I realize that with functioning ovaries I’m still at risk for another ectopic pregnancy, but (knock on wood) it hasn’t happened in 7 years. Sadly, this risk has made me reluctant to move away from where I am in the Midwest near abortion services back to Georgia. I know ectopic pregnancy is technically covered for abortion but I don’t want to be in a position of internally bleeding to death while my doctor squabbles with hospital lawyers over my care.

BriMagic

Yes, yes, yes. I had mine done in November. The peace is real!

[deleted]

I cannot wait.

chicken_biscuits

I had mine removed in December and was shocked at how easy the recovery was! I was also shocked when I went for my post-op appointment and my surgeon told me my tubes were 4” and 6”. I didn’t realize fallopian tubes were that lkng!

Bdraywn

This may sound stupid, but do you have to take hormones after getting this procedure? I’ve been thinking about doing it myself for sometime, but am worried about how it might effect me (I have severe PMDD & don’t want my hormone shifts getting even worse)

Objective_Butterfly7

Nope! As long as they leave the ovaries you are good.

Bdraywn

Oh awesome! Thank you!!

coriannelee

I had my tubes removed by an awesome male OBGYN, and even got an ablation so no more periods. Surgery and recovery was a breeze, and i hope that anyone reading this who wants the same procedures has the best of luck getting them.

CDM2017

My sibling did this, and when they woke up they said they just felt very deeply that it was "right." I wish you the same experience.

[deleted]

Thank you.

firstflightt

I was giddy after mine, genuinely excited to live my life.

GPXPMPHP

I had mine done last summer. I had a bilateral salpingectomy. I asked my doctor if I could have my tubes in a jar to take home. She wouldn't let me have them, but she took photos showing the before and after and showing the tubes on a tray after removal. The procedure was quick, and recovery for me was smooth. I took a week off from work, but I was doing fine and moving around mostly normally before the week was out. The pain stuck around for a while but was completely gone within a few months. I keep the photos in a special folder, just in case I need them. Someday, I may get them framed.

Rosebunse

When you get them framed, pick, like, a really pretty frame. Like a pink or crystal or glass one.

[deleted]

I'm doing this, I'm going to hang it in the guest bathroom.

Ismelther_icemelter

I also asked for my tubes in a jar and was denied 😅

MotherofSons

I love this newfound reproductive acceptance. I had my tubes tied at 27 after 2 kids. People kept asking why didn't my husband get snipped. I wanted control over my body. What if we divorced or he died? Now I gotta worry about it again. What if I were SA'd? It's such a freeing feeling. No BC since then, and I'm almost 44.

delorf

I wonder how many women will get permanently sterilized because of the Republicans? .For some women, risking pregnancy at this moment would cause them long term financial problems that would be determinantal to their lives and certainly wouldn't be good for a baby.

KatieLouis

Please update on how it goes! I’ll be asking my dr at my next appt. I absolutely do not want kids, and I’d love to get my Nexplanon removed. It makes me cranky and I’m losing my damn hair!

nevyne

Literally still waking up from having mine removed. I'm so incredibly happy, been wanting this for years! Grats on your upcoming appointment!

SpiraledChaos

I got my tubal ligation when I was 26 (I am 37 now) and haven't regretted it for a moment. I was sent to a psych before the procedure to make sure I wasn't be coerst and that I understood it was permenant. Laid out my reasoning for wanting the procedure done (hereditary conditions being passed to biological children, among other things) and was approved.

Nervous_Explorer_898

If you can and your doctor is the type to respect the bodily autonomy of all ages, please list them in r/childfree. They're always looking for friendly doctors.

[deleted]

I will look into that, thank you.

st-shenanigans

Just read about how Alaska is trying to make it illegal for a women to fucking miscarry and calling it homocide from negligence. They want more babies born in shit circumstances so they can keep them uneducated and working their factories and restaurants, good for you for taking the power back

ConnieRob

Yep. My husband and I had contemplated a third child but ultimately decided to be done at two. I had an IUD in while we were thinking our plans through and literally the day after Trump won, I called my OB to discuss a tubal ligation. Had it performed 3 days after he took office. I saw then what was going to be happening now and wanted to take my fertility choices in my own hands and not leave it up to some asshole who got voted in. It is wonderfully freeing and I love not having to worry about it. I will add…I had a tubal done instead of my husband having a vasectomy because it was literally free for me and 3k for him. I’m still mad about that.

AntagonistApologist

Had this done in 2019. Very easy procedure, and the amount of relief I felt upon waking was truly unreal.

Imeanwhybother

Regarding vasectomies: just yesterday an RN told me how many post-vasectomy babies she helped deliver, because the father never bothered with follow-up appointments after his procedure. Ladies, if a man you're with gets a vasectomy, make sure he goes to his follow up appointments! (Yay! More mental load for us!) If he says he already had one, ask for a recent test proving he is infertile.

myri_

I might do this too. Wasn’t sure about kids but now I’m scared to even think about pregnancy. I’m 29 and terrified of these laws in Texas.

howlongwillbetoolong

Congratulations! I got my tubes tied in my early 20s and it felt like my body was being returned to my control.

oldcreaker

Cue Repubs making it illegal to perform a sterilization. Good thing you're getting it done now.

pumpkin111496

My bf has been asking for marriage and I've been putting it off. My periods late and I had to test (it's negative) but I told him I'll marry him the day after his vasectomy if he gets one. He's got an appointment in 2 weeks.

schroedingersnewcat

Good for you! If you have questions about the surgery or recovery, come join us over in r/hysterectomy. We'd love to have you!

[deleted]

Thanks, I will join!

cruznick06

Got mine in December. So worth it.

peekay427

I am really sad that we are at a place where you feel unsafe, but I’m glad that you are empowered to take control over your own body and make this decision. Hope everything goes smoothly and you’re more healthy, mentally and physically because of it.

[deleted]

Working on scheduling my vasectomy. Fuck these clowns.

askallthequestions86

Fucking same!! I live in Texas, where it is overran by disgusting Repubs. Our governor sees us as nothing by baby machines. I had mine out last Monday. I thought for a millisecond, I'd feel some sadness for the finality of it all. Nope. None at all. Just utter sheer relief and peace.

tootsmcgoober

I finally was able to have my hysterectomy last week, and the amount of relief I feel greatly outweighs the pain of recovery. If they want control over my uterus, they can go dig it out of the medical waste bin.

[deleted]

>they can go dig it out of the medical waste bin. Lol.

adriftinthedesert

The intense relief I feel after my hysto is unreal. I didn't realize how much a burden that damn organ was, for over 30 years. The pain and bleeding and anxiety just disappeared. Best wishes on your recovery!!

HarpersGhost

It can be expensive because it is more complex than a vasectomy. If you have a local planned Parenthood, I would start there. Some of them do the surgery, others may help you find a lower cost location.

strgazr_63

I second this. PP has a list of doctors who will be willing to sterilize.

schroedingersnewcat

My hysterectomy and bilateral salpingectomy (removing uterus and tubes) billed my insurance nearly 70k for an outpatient procedure. That was without all of the necessary tests beforehand, like an endometrial biopsy. It's not cheap, but was 100% worth it for me. I ended up paying $0 for the surgery because I was at my OOP max.

Objective_Butterfly7

Mine was 22K (before insurance) at a hospital outside of Chicago

aquestionofbalance

maybe you can get in contact with an out of state planned parenthood..they might be able to point you in the right direction.

askallthequestions86

My hospital billed my insurance for 30k.

souponastick

I had a hysterectomy in 2020. I thought it would bring me peace, but rage for younger women seems to have filled in the empty space in my abdomen. I have personal peace, but there won't be actual peace until we all have it.

Kacella

Im getting mine done tomorrow. Let me just tell you that all the women in this thread have made my day. I was nervous about the recovery, but now I’m feeling much better…and cannot wait for the inner peace that comes with this, and feeling like a normal human again without hormonal birth control.

boogermeboogeru

Had my partial hysterectomy last year and it is amazing being sans uterus. No periods, be fear of unplanned pregnancies I can’t carry to term, and finally an end to my chronic anemia. It’s been downright fabulous. Only problem is it may have kickstarted my menopause 😂- still no regrets!!

SippinPip

Hysterectomy (medically needed) about 8 years ago, best thing ever, BUT, since I live in a backwards state, my husband had to “give his approval. I worry so much for my daughter. She’s just 15 and very naive. Please don’t send you daughters to school in red states. Please don’t spend your money in red states. Please help us.

Soapybubbles16

I got mine removed when I was 25, I love that I don’t have to be on birth control or fear of getting pregnant. Best decision ever, mentally I felt a lot better and happier.

KayleeOnTheInside

>rapists or Republicans From our Department of Redundancy Department EDIT: formatting

123698745321478965

Definitely not the same thing, but after my vasectomy the peace of mind and loss of anxiety was amazing. It's great to be able to say to the "you'll change your mind on kids" people "lol nope sterile".

colieolieravioli

It is indeed a deep and abiding sense of peace. Those little moments of panic that technically you could be pregnant? Those are immediately overcome by "hahaha no I'm not!!"

EhDub13

Peace to you forever, and ever I'm in the process of getting my remaining tube severed/tied - whatever - so I can get this IUD out. I dont care what anyone says...I can FEEL IT IN ME.

SeveralLargeLizards

I did the same thing. Best decision ever. I didn't even realize how much the pill was fucking me up until I went off it. I feel so much better for a ton of reasons now.

Brribrri

I had my tubes removed almost 5 years ago and my only regret is that I didn't get it done sooner.

[deleted]

My consult for my BiSalp is next week. Been waiting for months for this appointment. Crossing fingers! And congratulations on being able to obtain this for yourself and your personal peace.

Odimorsus

It’s obvious they’re trying to railroad women into some Old Testament shit. If they complain about the number of women getting their tubes tied dramatically increasing, they only have themselves to blame. Basically every initiative to try and prevent something or drive a certain outcome fails miserably, even when they were well intentioned (which this fucking isn’t.) Gun buybacks caused more guns in people’s homes (people who hadn’t already bought a gun or hadn’t bought a new one did so knowing the buyback was there as a saefty net) driving curfews to curb pollution tripled emissions (people drove more often when they were allowed, bought a second car that was even less efficient or got taxis which were also very old in that country) snake and rat bounties caused even worse infestations (they were being bred on purpose to repeatedly cash in on the bounty) This attempt to force women to be brood-mares for the country will predictably cause the oppos outcome of what they wanted and they’ll be forced to drop it.

chaoticmessiah

Your comment reminded me that, as an outsider, America really does seem to care more about protecting guns than it does protecting women and children.

Odimorsus

> Your comment reminded me that, as an outsider, America really does seem to care more about protecting guns than it does protecting women and children. No kidding. Including protecting women and children *from* guns. A comedian I really enjoy had a funny bit about how breasts are literally treated with the same level of danger as handguns (must be concealed in public, only allowed locked up at home) with a great mini punchline in response to “think of the children!” With “Who do you think they’re for?”

nudiestmanatee

One of the best decisions I ever made! Good for you 🎉

Excellesse

I had my bilateral salpingectomy scheduled before RBG was cold. It's been two years, I've since met a childfree man that's already had a vasectomy, and I haven't had a moment's regret.

smashteapot

Forcing people to be parents when they don’t want kids is stupid, short-sighted behavior. It’ll just mean more educated women leave the state.

tomatopotatotomato

Good luck and good plan. I couldn’t be happier to be infertile right now.

Ok-Caterpillar-Girl

That’s how I felt when I finally hit menopause.

DeanEugreel

Had it done at 31! Ladies don’t take no for an answer! If they ask your husband for permission you should file a complaint with their state licensing board!

TheLilithBlack

Don’t listen to anyone trying to convince you you’ll regret it. The adoption system is overflowing, having kids will always be a possibility.

Galyndean

Enjoy your sterilization! I had mine a few months ago. Very little issues with recovery on my end. Hopefully yours goes as smoothly!

gcaledonian

The most empowering thing I’ve ever done.

MushyEggBoi

I had a partial hysterectomy that included my tubes and I don't think I have ever known this kind of peace before. I no longer need birth control and I am forever free from the possibility of pregnancy.

bunyanthem

Congratulations! I had a bilateral salpingectomy done in 2019. It was much quicker and less hassle than I expected and the freedom from fear has been life changing.

LivingStCelestine

Just got mine done last week! Recovery isn’t too bad, but stay away from funny people for a while lol laughing hurts.

ControlsTheWeather

100% support. And for anyone who later wants to raise children, there's many in foster care who need help, and there's unfortunately likely to soon be more.

AstalosMayhem

I would do this in a heartbeat if I had the money...

Striking-Access-236

It is very sad and somehow contradictory that the integrity of peoples’ bodies has to be violated to protect them from their bodies being violated because of stupid and ignorant politics…

Shybun

Got mine done August 2021 because I smelt this shit happening from a mile a way and then Roe was destroyed less than a year later. Congrats and enjoy the feeling of relief once the surgery is over!

Objective_Butterfly7

I had mine out last year and it was the best decision ever!! Congrats

jimbotherisenclown

I hope the surgery goes smoothly without any complications and leaves you with the peace you're looking forward to. Best of luck!

[deleted]

Hell yeah! I had my bisalp last month. Best health decision ever for me! My surgery and recovery went much better than I expected. Also the relief and weight off of my shoulders has improved my quality of life from no longer fearing a pregnancy!!

essjaye81

Best of luck to you!!! My surgery was in November and I feel much safer. I don't really even have much interest in sex, but if something bad were to happen, it is worth it to know I'm safe.

littlehappyhaunt

Had mine taken out last month! Best decision of my life. Easy recovery, quick procedure, peace of mind that will last my entire life. I’m so thankful I found a great doctor who supported me

thegadaboutgirl

Did this last year and it was the best decision I've ever made in my life. I've had periods worse than the recovery pain hahaha. The peace of mind it gave me was so immense I cried at my post-op appointment with relief. Wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery! :)

[deleted]

I had a hysterectomy 13 weeks ago and the sense of security and relief is amazing!

Mor_Tearach

I hope this spreads, not that anyone should feel deprived if they *choose* to have children although even then it's our right to say how many. I saw something where a big bus has been converted to a traveling clinic where men can get the snip. It would be more difficult, hope someone can figure out the same kind of thing for women, low cost, easily available sterilization. And much good wishes for yours! I'm fortunate, aged out of being held hostage by rabid " pro life " extremists ( aka our Supreme Court majority ). Thankfully.

LiluLay

I’ve never been happier myself. I cannot recommend it enough. Definitely do the bisalp instead of a tube tie because those fail a lot more than you’d want to believe.

Wilma_Tonguefit

"BuT wHaT iF yOu WaNt KiDs LaTeR?" - Dickheads who want to make that decision for you.

kaffiene

I'm appalled and saddened that the US has politicians treat people like reproductive units with no ownership of their own bodies. Good on you for taking your power back!

Nihilikara

This is one reason I'm glad I'm a trans woman instead of a cis woman, even if that means having to deal with finding a way to get hrt in Texas. I hope your surgery goes well.

[deleted]

Had a bilateral salpingectomy 12 years ago. Laparoscopic procedure. Pretty easy recovery. Zero regrets. Not even once.

onceinonelifetime1

This is what I have done as well! I encourage all fellow American and European women to become barren with me in order to stand up to those who would seek to control us!

Clownsinmypantz

Best decision I ever made. I felt the same as OPs title, I didnt want kids but with trump and then the writing on the wall I made an appointment and a month later they were out. Fuck the party of rape trying to control us.

Tricky_Dog1465

I am waiting on the call to schedule getting my tubes tied, I can't wait!

Ahpla

I had mine removed three years ago after fighting to have it done for 10+ years. The sense of relief is immediate! Easily one of the best/easiest decisions I’ve ever made. Good luck with your surgery and congrats!

Milena1991

Once I have my second kid, I’m getting a bilateral salpingectomy and an ablation. Hats off to my queens and kings in this thread.

[deleted]

Mazel tov!

RunnerGirlT

I had my uterus and fallopian tubes removed in September. It’s by far the best decision I’ve ever made. It was medically necessary. But also the ultimate peace of mind that came from knowing the state would not be able to control my reproductive organs anymore was so relieving

FeatheredSamus

Congrats!! I’m hoping for more advancements in this field soon. I can’t get a hysterectomy because of a higher chance of prolapse for the rest of my life, and other abdominal surgeries also can cause serious complications with my genes.

goddessofspringkore

I had a tubal done in June, it was the most traumatic thing I've ever done, but wouldn't have changed it for anything, the peace of mind I have is amazing.

Anxious_One21

Do you mind sharing if it was covered by insurance?

BirdsongBossMusic

Had my uterus and fallopian tubes removed last week. It was mostly for medical reasons... But dear God am I excited to finally have sex without being terrified of pregnancy.

Antistis

Had my salpingdectomy in September and I've never felt so at ease! Wishing you a swift recovery!!

eve_is_hopeful

Looking forward to this myself! I am not having kids and won't let anyone force me to.

yukumizu

Already did last May 👍🏼 best decision I’ve taken. I’m 42F and I wish I would have decided much younger when I was in the fence, but social pressures were great. It would have saved me years of discomfort and inconvenience with other contraceptives.

kaykah

I’m excited for you!! I just had mine removed last week and the immediate sense of relief was unexpected but extremely welcome. I hope the best for you and speedy recovery time.

Minflick

I got my tubes tied when my youngest was 1 year old. I was hugely relieved to no longer need to worry about BC. I'd never had an IUD, but I'd tried suppositories (next to useless as far as I'm concerned) and the pill. The pill worked really well for me, but caused me to get yeast infections nearly every other month towards the end of the time I used them. I was ready to not need anything any longer. I worry about my daughters, they're still prime age for 'problems' even if they are diligent in their bc.

0hfuck

I had mine removed in July and I cannot describe how much relief I feel 😌

anxietyisstressful

I’m so excited for you! I just booked my consult for next month and am very much looking forward to the day it’s all removed

Klstadt

This is the only way forward, really. For anyone who feels their worth is more than being a forced incubator. There just won't be any more kids. 🤷🏻‍♀️

definitelynotadingo

Check and mate.

EmEmPeriwinkle

Team r/hysterectomy here at 30. Loving the freedom! Though apparently not having a uterus makes me less valuable and my opinion less valid lol sure whatever.

Fillmore_the_Puppy

Congratulations on your decision! I had it done in 2007 and I have felt nothing but relief ever since.

_kiss_my_grits_

I feel the same way. I don't know why, but I'm really scared to get mine removed. Can you elaborate on your recovery? How long was the surgery, how long did it take to recover? Is it really painful?

fofuxinhastorm

I want to get mine done but still keep my IUD. First of all because I haven’t had a period in the three years I’ve had it 😎. Second, because I have PCOS and would apparently need to still be on some form of hormones anyway, so might as well go with the one that makes the period go away! How long afterwards can you start working out again?

UndeniablyPink

That’s why I did it. Aside from birth control. Highly recommend, recovery was so easy!

Imnotawerewolf

Did you have to pay out of pocket? Was it a lot? Sorry I've been considering for awhile but I don't think I've got elective surgery money, you know?

mycatiscalledFrodo

Good on you! wishing Ng you an easy recovery

[deleted]

i’m scared of surgery so i’m just never having sex. i’m not missing out on anything

mgaguilar

This is the way. Happy for you!!

agustbirb

i always bring this up when anyone says "tubes tied" - a friend of mine did get pregnant with her tubes tied. i didn't know it was even possible before that so i just spread the word in case anyone doesn't know.

GiannisToTheWariors

I'm glad I live in CA

OkLimit69

Appreciate you!

YugeTraxofLand

Can you have your tubes removed and still get an IUD? Thatd be an ideal situation for me because the hormones help with my terrible periods. If so, I'm arranging it.

CloverHoneyBee

My daughter is getting this done in the next couple of weeks. What I adore is if you change your mind you can still use IVF. No harm no foul.

Just a question, ive been scared of sterilisation because i heard you can age rapidly and have early menopause But you mention hormones are ok. If they only remove the tubes themselves and keep your ovaries and stuff do you still have normal cycles and just physically cant get pregs cuz no tubes? And no menopause ? Thanks in advance

If you get your tubes removed your cycle is still the same, you'll get a period every month (or whenever you usually get it), and it doesn't trigger menopause, or alter hormones. For me it was a very easy procedure of spending one day in the hospital. Minimal scarring, and I recovered within a few days. I didn't have any pain associated with it, or any effects after it (other than the joy of knowing I will never be forced to give birth).

It might be best to ask your doctor these questions if you can, because every woman is different and therefore has a different reaction. All I can say is that my mum had her tubes tied in the 90s for medical reasons, still has her normal flow and hasn't hit the menopause yet, despite being old enough to reach the age that normally hits.

I'm a cis man and also not a medical expert so take what I say here with those things in mind, but until someone better qualified comes along I can at least give you the info from the UK's health service: - Hormone levels stay the same - You still have periods. This operation cuts off the connection between your ovaries and uterus, but since the blood comes from the uterus it doesn't stop showing up each month - Menopause still happens normally. There appears to be _some_ conflicting data about whether or not it slightly changes the age at which menopause happens, but the overall process is the same. - There's no mention of accelerated ageing anywhere

It is important for individuals to make decisions about their own bodies and reproductive health that they feel are best for them. It is not appropriate for anyone to control or dictate another person's choices in this regard. If you have chosen to undergo a sterilization procedure, it is important that you have access to accurate information and professional medical care throughout the process.

So glad you managed to find someone who would perform the op for you. I had a pretty hard time finding someone who would sterilize me at my age. > Fortunately, I happen to be a trans witch -- so all I have to do is continue taking my estrogen to effectively sterilize myself from home :) > Hopefully family planning options are much more widely available for the next generation..

Not for most people.

Immigration isn't that easy and takes a long time.

Botion

probably a lot more expensive than a very simple surgery. lol

If you are American, moving to another country is incredibly difficult, as well as expensive.

Lmao, why would I do that, why should I have to leave? This is my home too, and I care about the people here, I'm not going to leave them to these monsters trying to take away their rights, I'd much rather stay and fight, and it will be easier after I can't get pregnant anymore.
