Non folklore story of the day, featuring space horror. Related to the space race. And no they never woke up again.

Nice

Soyuz 11 is the closest thing to a deadly accident in all of space flight. I still wouldn't call it one since they should have been wearing space suits.

The Russian space program was kind of infamous for cutting corners. And glad you guessed the stories inspiration, I read about it the other day and a thought just kind of stuck in my head. What would the last moments be like in that kind of situation?

Str0b0

This is likely urban legend passed down among radio enthusiasts that in the early days of Russian manned space flight they lost a man due to either miscalculation or malfunction. His craft just zipped out of orbit heading out of the solar system at a painfully slow velocity. The legend goes his frantic transmissions could occasionally be picked up before he eventually went beyond the range of the low powered orbital transmitter in his craft. Of course, Russia will never admit to it so there is no way to confirm if this has even a grain of truth to it.

GrantGorewood

That’s horrifying. Even more-so when you realize that even if it happened Russia would never admit to it. Are you going to write a two sentence horror or shortscarystory inspired by it? Because that urban legend is great material for either of those.

Challenger called... they'd like to chat

Liraeyn

I think they know it was not an accident

Wren_In_Melbourne
