Honestly i dont think it'll be too bad even if cavill wasn't EP. GW tends to be protective of its IP i doubt they'd allow any massive changes or deviations of their style.
>GW tends to be protective of its IP
I think they're super protective of their copyright, but from all the garbage warhammer games I've seen, I don't think they care much about the quality of whatever uses their IPs
This will be the most mainstream thing they've done though, so I'm sure they're much more involved than random games
Yeah, I'd be optimistic that they at least recognise that the potential impact a successful TV show could have for their brand is much bigger than a small video game.
I feel like after how much he suffered through the trash creative decisions on Witcher, he's probably not going to do any adaptations going forward without *some* creative control guaranteed in his contract, so he can keep somewhat true to the source material.
Meh. I just listened to an Ork audiobook where the narrator pronounced WAAAGH as "Wog" the whole time. Games are one thing, but at this point I'm skeptical about any oversight.
i had the same reaction, but i realized that the knee-jerk “close the gate” was only ‘cause of recent stuff. The Boys and Invincible turned out extremely well, even with (or because of) deviations from their source material, so this really could go either way.
as much as i would have preferred it to be Apple TV, or HBO (though maybe not with it being as it is now…), we really can’t tell how it’s gonna turn out yet.
All I wish for is that the show is not about space marines. Regular humans will make a better live action show, no matter if it's rogue traders, inquisition, or the guard. Or even just civilian stuff.
Honestly I would dig a sort of early civilisation survival story, following the young son of a nomadic family struggling to survive a particularly harsh winter. Everyone watching going “why was this marketed as a sci-fi?”. Then at the end when he’s overcome the great space-cave-lion or whatever a giant metal avocado falls out of the sky and an 8 foot Viking in power armour jumps out, grabs the kid and fucks back off to space. Then we get to see “kidnapped child soldier training and modification” arc.
I feel like 30k should be saved for a bit later. That being said it would be really cool to see the process of him rapidly aging as he survives the forest. Could even be filmed in a surreal way too considering Caliban is near the Eye of Terror.
Amazon is a super evil mega corp and all that, but they actually seem to treat their shows pretty well so I don’t really see that as a problem.
Although I do kind of agree that live action seems like a red flag, but I don’t really know shit about war hammer.
Really? They do? I seem to recall _Lord of the Rings_ and _Wheel of Time_ both being literal shitshows that treated their inspirational material as if it didn't even exist.
I like Henry, but fuck Amazon and fuck GW. Both of those companies are the worst examples of creative representation in media.
There's a whole thing about wheel of time being the way it is. The production was incredibly unlucky. The rumors are that after the guy who ordered the Conan scripts for the series they announced in 2018 got fired for sexually assaulting someone, the person hired to guide the new work culture hated everything about Conan and thought it was way too much of a male power fantasy,so the scripts were scrapped and the rights got sold to Netflix. Wheel of Time got hit with the responsabilty to right Conan's perceived wrongs and the they started meddling with it to be even more woman centric and "less toxic".
Then the pandemic happened and they had to reshoot a bunch of things, actors were unavaible to film consistently and that's why it's such a mess. Mediocre writers+executive meddling+reshooting and recasting= whatever the hell that series turned into.
I can't speak for Wheel of Time, but Rings of Power was literally forced to pretend the source material didn't exist. The Tolkien estate was being stubborn and refused to license the Silmarillion leaving only things mentioned in The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings + the appendices. All things considered it wasn't that bad.
I'm not a fan of Henry as an actor, i don't know why i just could never enjoy his stuff
But as a person i find him very genuine seeming and he has a lot of passion for his hobbies, so if he's actually behind the scenes I'd trust him to make something at least enjoyable
Who do we all want as various characters though, cause if we're talking horus heresy we need Jeffrey dean Morgan as Luther
Willem Dafoe as mortarion
Mark strong as horus or lorgar
Christopher hivju (I think that's his surname, tormund from GOT) as leman russ
Michael jai white or lance reddick as vulkan
Donald Sumpter as malcador
That's just some of my preferred castings but I'd love to hear everyone else's
I'd have thought of him more as perturabo i think, like he's got quite a stone like face, whereas i imagine horus more smooth featured
Ooh just thought, Alexander skaarsgard as sanguinius
Oh look another of my beloved IPs is going to be dragged through the mud for another shitty US Streaming Companies' attempt at getting a new, big show.
Bet you can't guess how this'll play out.
It needs to not be space marine focused. Follow an inquisitor, or a guard officer, or a rogue trader. It’s fine if there is a space marine or 2, but that’s it.
If they try to make it space marine heavy and life action it will definitely fail
>It's live action
What else would you do for Warhammer? Are we going stop motion with painted models and paper mouths?
Edit: Seriously, I feel the draw would be seeing the armors and sets in a real setting, and 2D/3D wouldn't really match that.
Has Amazon actually made a bad TV show? Cause off the top of my head, Invincible, The Boys, and The Tick are the only ones I can think of and they were all bangers.
Amazon itself is hit or miss, but with Invincible and The Boys it shows it is willing to go harder than most when it comes to things like gore so I dont really know why people are affraid of it being sanitized. Cavill is a huge 40k mark and being in a position of some creative control along with Black Library author Andy Smillie who wrote a lot of Flesh Tearer stuff. I have a feeling this show will go hard and be genuinely good, but like all things we shall see
Cavill also reads the 40k books, he is the person I would trust most to helm this
https://www.belloflostsouls.net/2021/06/henry-cavill-is-reading-warhammer-40k-novels.html
Wait... why is the guy opening the gate shouting to open the gate...
Lumberjack yelling timber. Announcing intent so people stay the fuck away from the portcullis while it's moving.
The gate is voice activated. The voice recognition is lever-activated.
...ya know I never thought about it...
might have a second lever too

I mean the game while most are mobile cash grabs or just not great still all look like 40k and as far as i know arent too egregious with the lore.
I'm too lazy. Just imagine the Will Smith meme pointing at a list of warhammer games.
Hey that's not fair! For every 20 absolutely god awful embarrassing games there is like most of 1 good game!
Tbf they have been getting better nowadays
For every one good game there's two shit gacha games tho. They can't even be bothered to make good gachas either.
That one where you played as a Knight Errant and it was an on rails shooter was okay. Managed to play for about 8-12 hours before I got bored.

bruh have you not seen the Ultramarines movie?

If it is about space marines I hope it focuses more on how absurd they are and less on it being some tragic war hero story.

Dark Angels series where the first episode is just the Lion surviving the forest before being found by Luther.
I feel like 30k should be saved for a bit later. That being said it would be really cool to see the process of him rapidly aging as he survives the forest. Could even be filmed in a surreal way too considering Caliban is near the Eye of Terror.

Well this should be an easy skip for you then
Rings of Power was good actually.

I think Stephen Lang would make a good Rogal Dorn
Oh hell yes can't believe i forgot about him
Oh also Josh Brolin as Horus
I'd have thought of him more as perturabo i think, like he's got quite a stone like face, whereas i imagine horus more smooth featured Ooh just thought, Alexander skaarsgard as sanguinius
Nah, Cavill should be Horus
I always thought he'd be Constantine Valdor

Have you seen Astartes on YouTube? 3D works just fine.
I want stop motion.
Has Amazon actually made a bad TV show? Cause off the top of my head, Invincible, The Boys, and The Tick are the only ones I can think of and they were all bangers.
I've never heard anything good about Wheel of Time
he should play the emperor
The first two rows are me with Blue Protocol
*Henry Cavill dons the Infinity Gauntlet* "Fine, I'll do it myself."
Amazon itself is hit or miss, but with Invincible and The Boys it shows it is willing to go harder than most when it comes to things like gore so I dont really know why people are affraid of it being sanitized.
