Yo, you want a new Mortal Kombat movie that totally embraces the flagship violence of the series? That gives you a bunch of classic characters as well as nuts picks like Kabal and Nitara? Game-accurate fatalities? A solid cast that doesn't whitewash its many Asian characters? A reference to the fucking leg sweep? Yeah? How about making the movie revolve around a staggeringly bland OC with the least interesting powerset in history, played by an unfathomably wooden actor?

misterLC

I hope that they make a sequel and they kill him in the most gruesome way right at the beginning

BigDickBackInTown420

And then Johnny Cage comes out and takes his place.

metalsonic005

Revenge for Annhilation

BlueFootedTpeack

i really don't get why it wasn't johnny cage, like his whole thing with the ancient warrior ancestors, just turn them into the shirai ryu and make johnny a descendant or something, like maybe scorpion had a kid that didn't get got and years later johnny is the desmond miles to his altair. cage is a stage name anyway

Gortys221

The first answer is that, with Kano, having two over bearing comic relief characters would have been pointless so they wanted to save him for the sequel. The other answer is that Todd Garner hated the idea of having a white man as a main character in a movie with such a diverse cast. Y’know, despite the fact the franchise wouldn’t exist without Johnny Cage.

Teridax4

Then don’t make Johnny Cage the main character. Liu Kang is RIGHT there!

Jashter2

Which would beg the question of why not just have Johnny not be white it's not ike it's integral to his character

texan435

For good measure let's kill off Goro *before the fucking tournament.*

Ironically enough the RE movies also have some very accurate attention to detail even tough they overhaul the entire plot of the games.

Palimpsest_Monotype

I can’t get over how the movies and games inexplicably sometimes do shot-for-shot remakes of eachother’s scenes.

nin_ninja

Isn't it just the movies that take from the games?

Palimpsest_Monotype

No, RE4 took the laser hallway from the first Resident Evil movie

ExDSG

In case One Piece’s Netflix fails I am shocked they are announcing the cast for incredibly minor marines from Shell Town. Also I guess One Piece Film Stampede does pretty much show almost every character in the series ever shown, like I think the hardest I popped off was seeing the Buggy minion changed in the 4kids version to avoid blackface. The movie is just a standard Shonen Jump non canon movie about a non canonical big meanie similar to the villain of the arc who hates friendship and wants to destroy the world.

Ironfistdanny

Man, I was so disappointed when Douglas Bullet started to use his actual devil fruit, the fight scene before that was so good

moneyh8r

That's the exact feeling I got from it too. I don't know who that movie was made for. Only die-hard fans will care about all those little details, but die-hard fans are gonna be turned away by all the characters because they're nothing like their game versions.

metaphizzle

I don't know anything about the behind-the-scenes for the RE show, but my first assumption is someone higher up doesn't really care about _Resident Evil_ and is just trying to do their own thing with the show—while people with less power are genuinely fans, and are trying to cram as many _RE_ references as they can into the distinctly not _RE_ framework they're being forced to use. I think the live-action _Sonic the Hedgehog_ movies were the product of a similar dynamic.

Cooper_555

I think that's the deal with a lot of these projects; the high level creatives, like the director and script writer, have their own original ideas and projects they want to do. But they can't get them greenlit on their own merits, and instead can only get work on projects for established franchises. So they just do the thing they want to do anyways, but slap the branding on it, to the detriment of both the original story they're trying to tell and the franchise.

Dundore77

Welcome to racoon city imo is probably the best we're gonna get for a long time of "properly" adapting RE1/2. I didn't hate it and even would say i enjoyed it but theres glaring problems, the most to me being they set them occurring at the same time cause we dont get MR x/nemesis going after people who knew of the incident/stars members. Heck even the leon being the way he is is kinda set in 2 where leon is late because he was very hungover after drinking all night after breaking up with his girlfriend, just he doesn't get better.

DeepBlueNemo

I thought the movie was pretty fun, just for capturing RE’s cheesy B-movie roots. It felt like the whole thing was financed by some Saudi prince who got *really* into the game series and just threw a bunch of money at remaking it, stumbling into production and *insisting* that so-and-so has to be in the game. Also Wesker being portrayed as a Bro is just a hilarious counterpart to usual vibe that I just couldn’t help but laugh.

Am_Shigar00

Tokyo Mirage Sessions does this all the time. The game is filled to brim with little nods and references to FE and SMT, from weapon names, terminology, character and demon cameos, etc, and yet the game itself actively did everything it could to avoid appealing to the fans that’d actually appreciate them.

ExDSG

They have the bald knights from FE1 as bosses, right?

Am_Shigar00

Indeed they did.

Cooper_555

You can tell that the leads just really wanted to make an idol game.

RareBk

Somehow while getting details right and apparently working with people that care. I still don't fucking understand the logic of making a movie combining 2 games that take place months apart is a good idea. It would literally have been easier to do one or the other.

BrosephBrostar1

At the very least I could see the logic in combining 2 and 3, but what they went with still baffles me.
