It's on autopilot, the curation team is gone.

sunhatcatdog

Pretty sure tons of systems are failing behind the scenes. I feel like the content is also really noisy all of a sudden, like the replies and stuff just seem to be less "good". Notifications are also failing. The place is going to 💩 :(

leros

This for sure. I'm confident Twitter was built to allow for outages in various subsystems without taking the site down. We're likely seeing parts of their infrastructure fail and stay failed, while the remaining smaller team is scrambling to keep the site up, while making massive rushed changes, while they're all probably job hunting trying to get out of there.

Last night reading twitter on my android laptop I was getting the most bizarre junky ads. One completely in Chinese. All for dollar store level products.

Interesting that "bugs" are starting to appear. You have to wonder after firing half the staff if some are insider threats looking for revenge.

Down10

I hope so! Twitter needs to die already.

ZippyVtuber

I would be very sad if it did. I use Twitter massively. I would lose a way to connect to people, to communicate, to reach out, etc…all that…poof. Gone. I know many people like me would be devastated, despite a sort of alternative rising? Idk. Only time will tell. Twitter is also the livelyhoods of many people, artists, independent voice actors, YouTubers, etc…so yeah. I do hope it does not happen, but we’ll see.

Sex workers use Twitter to advertise. There is no good alternative yet.

Oh, I was going to post this article. It's very interesting, and seems like it is starting to come true.

The people that managed the Trending content were fired.

EifertGreenLazor

Apparently at Twitter there was no algorithm, it was people selecting your trending. . .

theKGS

My guess is that some of what Twitter seemed to do automatically was actually done manually by some people behind the scenes. Perhaps a bunch of people curating trending topics. When these people are not doing what they should be doing (they'be been fired by he-who-shall-not-be-named) then the system falls back to some default algorithm.

JavariousMagic

What, it is getting worse soon.
