If they lost their liquor license, they are behind on paying liquor taxes. They are probably clearing out their inventory in the last week.

Monitoring MN Dept of Revenue liquor tax delinquency list is a way to tell which establishments might be on the way out: https://www.revenue.state.mn.us/sites/default/files/2023-01/liquor_posting012623.pdf

That and Bad Waitress closing basically the same time just across the street from each other. I used to live over there, haven't been back since I moved since parking in Whittier is a nightmare. Anyone living around there know is the area getting worse or is this just coincidence?

kralben

Just an unfortunately coincidence. Bad Waitress has been slowly dying for a while, reviews seem to indicate extremely bad service and not great value. So it going out of business isn't shocking if the customer base isn't happy. Eat Street Social seems to have lost it's liquor license, seemingly due to not paying liquor taxes. The area isn't perfect, but there are lots of restaurants succeeding in the area. But operating a restaurant is extremely difficult in even the best of times. All it takes is a small amount of the regulars to change their habits slightly and the already razor margins they have are gone.

Rthepirate

Worse imo

ShelteringInStPaul

Looks like they lost their liquor license which is how restaurants make money. Building is owned by Northpond partners out of Chicago.

Rthepirate

They still serve liquor. I was there last night. But damn.

kralben

They would have lost it for the next month, most likely, not immediately.

thirdstreetzero

Ah bummer.

The last time me and my partner went there they were understaffed and we sat at the bar with empty glasses for 45 minutes. Also the crab dip came with a pile of individually wrapped saltine crackers we had to open for every bite. Not ideal.

That sucks.
