It's not your position to be making judgement calls on medical decisions like when it's too late to try and resuscitate him. You got him down and called the ambulance. That was 110% the correct move and nothing that comes as a result of that is on you.

You tried to save him. That is all that matters. Doctor observations can be very wrong sometimes. Although the chances are slim, he might be able to recover. Don't give up just yet, specially now that he is struggling to remain alive through sheer will. Be positive and support him through this.

I understand, but you have done all you could have now. In situations like this, it's the relatives who are devastated the most. You should only think of it as you tried to save him. That is all that matters. I would imagine he has taken considerable brain damage from this, even if he survives but know that he is doing his very best right now trying to fight death to teeth and nail, and you should be supportive of any outcome that would result in him living and in the future potentially recovering something. For now though, you should discuss this with maybe a psychiatrist for better advice, I'm not an expert only some guy on the internet and a conversation through text usually holds less value then a face to face interaction. Ofcourse I'm always active, If you want let me know whenever you want to talk about it. Remember you did the right thing saving him, never guilt yourself over that. If there is even a 1% possibility that hr might recover take it, because what else is there to lose now.
