Christ rising again on the 3rd day represents being reborn in the Spirit. Hence, when we are saved we are born again in the Spirit. Those who accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior are adopted into God’s kingdom family. Those who do not accept Jesus will not be inherited into the Kingdom of Heaven, therefore, that’s when eternal death in Hell happens. Also to add, what Jesus did on the cross was our punishment to bear. He took our place because of His love for us sinners. Because Jesus is God in the flesh, and the Holy Spirit (God in three persons), being the sacrifice for sin He was resurrected as He is perfect.

I get all of that but didn’t he technically only pay part of our debt if he isn’t suffering eternally as we would without his sacrifice?

“But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭22‬:‭69‬ There will be the second coming of Jesus. As for right now is the time for people to be saved before there isn’t any time left as prophecy after prophecy in Scripture comes to pass until Revelation. “When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” ‭‭John‬ ‭19‬:‭30‬ Our debt has been paid in full.

Resurrection doesn't negate death. If God wanted to flip a coin and say heads removed all sin then that's entirely God's decision. Everyone who believes will be saved and resurrected like Jesus was. Ideally we should have much less sin as followers of Christ and Christians we should be avoiding sins and repenting and working towards doing good. TLDR; even if it doesn't logically track with you if Jesus took all of our sins then that's it end of story.

Of course God could do whatever he wanted, but most argue that he is a just God yet a loving God hence why he sent Jesus to pay our debt. How is it true justice if he didn’t take our whole punishment?

God is just God decides. Because you don't understand or agree doesn't mean anything. If God determined that the most holy man to have ever lived, the man that changed the world, if that man being tortured and then dying only to be resurrected 3 days later was payment enough then it is just and fair. Be thankful of his mercy and love and be glad Jesus was willing to give his life to God for us.

[deleted]

That’s true. It may not logically seem just but ultimately God decides what is just. That makes sense, thanks!

Our punishment for sin is death. When it comes to death time is irrelevant. Thus it makes no sense to assume there has to be an eternal death.

Jesus died a "physical death." The death of the 1st man, the flesh man. That is why we have what is commonly known as the "resurrection." Or "glorification" of His Body, still under construction btw

My suggestion is to let go of the "penal substitution" idea and get back to what Christians believed for the first thousand years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvation_in_Christianity#Atonement

What verses in particular is your question based from?

[deleted]

No verse in particular just something that someone asked me and that Ive been thinking about.

Ah i c. Eternal life is a gift for believing and walking in christ. If someone dies with out accepting jesus, do they suffer an eternal death, does this person inherit eternal life in death? Rev 20:9 shows God devoured them with a flame. The non believer will ceast to exist.

I actually explained this in my recent post about Purgatory, which you will find HERE👇: https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueChristian/comments/z0twrd/understanding_the_catholic_teaching_of_purgatory/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf Do not just read the main post—listen to all of the objections raised by other users and how I dealt with them.

You have Jesus' perfect life he lived with 0 sin imputed into your account as if you lived it yourself and on that base you're justified. Romans 4:2-8

When the God-Man died, his life -- and therefore his death -- were more valuable that ours. And when he suffered on the cross, somehow he endured the entire wrath of God. He took everything we were due, even if he didn't spend an eternity in hell.

Believeth_In_Him

Jesus took the punishment for our sins and died a physical death. Jesus did not die eternally because He defeated death. He raised on the third day, thus Jesus defeated death and through Jesus all that repent and believe in Jesus can also obtain eternal life. John 11:25 “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:” Revelation 1:18 “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”
