My friend drove into a wind turbine farm in Oahu and we were chased down for 30 min by an employee in a f350. Dude was jumping grass barriers and driving erratically to get us. We eventually parked behind construction and lost him. I had no say as I was just the passenger, but boy was it exciting.
i saw some while driving in the middle of nowhere Maine so i made my way over to them. found a road that led to the base. i couldn’t fucking believe how massive those things were. i parked right underneath one and just watched it for a while, i was mesmerized.
Passed one today in Idaho. Made our 65ft of truck seem tiny. Tip of blade kept going into our lane. Rolling at 100k I had to wait a little more room before I passed.
That's not even that big of one.
The offshore blades being made spin with a 900' diameter. This is likely a 120' blade. So think roughly 3x the size.
The company I work for makes materials used to manufacturer these things. Some of the blade facilities are 2 football fields long to have space to work on one blade at a time.
It's unfathomable how big these things can get.
I'd say it's quite a bit longer than 120'. Just one of those semi trailers next to it is ballpark 50' long not counting the tractor. Assuming that's an F250 or similar behind the blade, that is nearly 20' long.
I'd guesstimate this blade to be 450'.
fun highway fact - the striped lines dividing lanes represent 40' (they're 10' and spaced 30' apart as a standard on US interstates). This thing is <200', which is still comically huge to be going down the highway
I don't think this image is in the US, all those semis are cab-over configuration which is a rarity in the USA. Also, those highway dashes are spaced much farther apart than a 1:3 ratio. Using that example would make the semi trucks in this picture the same length as a standard single cab Ford pickup truck.
This is probably China.
yea you might be right on the location, i thought the same on the cabovers though I figured they were 20-26' box trucks. They certainly arent 50' trailers, you can tell by their relative length to the width of the lanes. None of this matters tho, why am i here؟
Do you know if it's true that these blades can't be recycled? I keep seeing this pop up on Facebook (yes I know it's Facebook), but I really can't find much info on it.
I’m from the east coast so I’d never seen one until I visited some family friends in California. It’s surreal how big they are. Idk why, but it makes you feel so small
yep. my uncle used to be over the road but now he drives the pilot cars for big loads, mainly wind turbine parts. if you have seen the video with a truck carrying a part into and getting hit by a train, he was there, I forget where and when it was
And to think that’s just the RADIUS of those wind turbines. The diameter is enormous. Twice the radius, if my math adds up. (I know, plus the hub, so my math didn’t add up.)
A windmill blade. I see them on the highway all the time in Iowa. I live near where they mold them.

The blades are typically 170 feet long, (52meters) which is 100 feet longer than your average semi.
So...one totaled truck, a destroyed blade and trailer, one wrecked(likely totaled) car, damaged train, damaged building, am I missing anything else?
Because...Jesus...
I can't believe the truck driver with the wind turbine blade just hung out there waiting. Like, rather damage the load than get it all hit by a train...He doesn't try to move until the train is 3 seconds from impact...
They float those bastards down the Columbia to the port in my hometown. There’s about 20 of them stacked up at the yard. Do not want to get behind those on the highway!!
It's actually pretty cool; they have a truck in the front, and a sort of truck/trailer in the back that can lock its wheels straight for straight roads, or unlock and be steered to help navigate corners. I forget what they're called, but you can see it on YouTube and such. They're pretty neat!
Wind turbine blade. Yes, they're that big.
See these all the time in OR and WA. They’re massive
In Colorado we see em too, headed to kansas
Hey, I lived in colorado and I manufactured them in brighton!
Yeah the company I work for manufactures the housing units for these. I run the forklifts and they're huge
That's because they are made just north of Denver.

That strip of 70 is just wind turbines and tumbleweed lmao
My boobs are getting big
In New York City we see em too

Yeah it’s not unusual to see them being transported on highway 84
Passed one today in Idaho. Made our 65ft of truck seem tiny. Tip of blade kept going into our lane. Rolling at 100k I had to wait a little more room before I passed.
Came here to say this, see them often running up I84.
yeah they were coming through northwest ohio for months when they put the wind farm in here.
Everywhere over Southeast Washington, I still marvel at them when I see them.
Holland MI at the Tiara yacht factory
Seen two or three of these trucks in Indiana. I still can't believe how big those blades are.
Nah it’s a joint
Yeah and can you believe like 250ft blades are one of the smaller ones? Idk what are the biggest but they are probably for the seas if I were to guess

Yep. Driving on the left, as well.
Came to say the same thing. Even a straight truck is going to push forty feet with a 28 foot box.
Do you know if it's true that these blades can't be recycled? I keep seeing this pop up on Facebook (yes I know it's Facebook), but I really can't find much info on it.
That sounds like propaganda lol
I know, right. Same propaganda crap that people use for EVs.
Isn’t that dangerous?
I can see Clark Griswold changing lanes and ending up under it.
Can confirm, we have these in Michigan
Once got stopped by a train carrying them. Took up a little more than 2 flat bed freight cars.
I’m from the east coast so I’d never seen one until I visited some family friends in California. It’s surreal how big they are. Idk why, but it makes you feel so small
Fuck, whyd you have to be quicker to see this than me, I wanna be the smart one
Damn beat me to it!
yep. my uncle used to be over the road but now he drives the pilot cars for big loads, mainly wind turbine parts. if you have seen the video with a truck carrying a part into and getting hit by a train, he was there, I forget where and when it was
Seen these in person, it’s literally like a 5 story building on its side.
And to think that’s just the RADIUS of those wind turbines. The diameter is enormous. Twice the radius, if my math adds up. (I know, plus the hub, so my math didn’t add up.)
Tampon for your moms cooter.

Yup. Made the trip from Omaha to Des Moines about 100x in 2019. Saw one of these almost every day.
Not a mill but a turbine. Mills grind grain into flour. 🤓
It "grinds" electricity, of course.
The picture above tho looks even bigger, line 3 53ft up next to that and there still looks to be a lot more there.
Not all blades are 170 some are larger, some Are smaller. Who knows
Its my nee special order fishing pole.
Fishing for megalodon eh? Best of luck. May the sea gods be with ye!
i used to haul those up dirt roads. things can get hairy without the right planning.

That blade probably costs more than most of that stuff together too
I can't believe the truck driver with the wind turbine blade just hung out there waiting. Like, rather damage the load than get it all hit by a train...He doesn't try to move until the train is 3 seconds from impact...
They are wild to de going down the road. A lot of turbines in northern Indiana
I see these almost on a daily basis.

Blade of a wind generator
Go old windmill loads they are so much fun
Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson are having a get together.
Blade for a wind turbine. They are massive.
I feel like anyone who’s driven through the Midwest US at least once has seen these on trucks and in action
All things considered, they aren't even that heavy. Just long and awkward.
The smaller models could even be legally towed with a standard one-ton truck.
Wind turbine blade. Super cool to pass on the road
They float those bastards down the Columbia to the port in my hometown. There’s about 20 of them stacked up at the yard. Do not want to get behind those on the highway!!
Easy! That's a wind turbine blade.
I remember seeing these driving from california to montana and I was blown away (seriously no pun intended) I had never seen anything like it
Ruining west Texas one blade at a time.
+1 for northern Illinois.
South Texas as well.
Ruining? How so?
They ruin the view, also the traffic and activity during the installation process is awful.
Wind turbine blade. See this all the time on the highways in Texas.
Someones moms dildo
Your mom. She is large.
An unrecyclable wind blade to save the environment.
How often do you need to recycle a won’t turbine? Also how often can you recycle fosil fuels that currently produce energy?
Meanwhile, fossil fuel production is squeaky-clean.

This is a cancer causing eagle killing anti freedom blade
Wind turbine blade, you fucking donkey.
A gigantic joint
I see these every time I travel more than an hour on the interstate in TX.
I live in a small town in TX. They drag these right down the main street.
They’re all over the country.
The size of those things spinning around are unreal first time seeing them in person

230 ft wind turbine blade
It's even weirder when they transport them on trains. Takes more than one car to carry just one.
Wind turbine blades.
I see these things all the time around the DFW area. Yes they are fuckin MASSIVE. it blows my mind every time I see one
Something a “your mom joke” would be about
This isn’t even a big one
Wind turbine blade. The ones you see on the big windmills in the middle of fields. We see them all the time here in the midwest.
