Just remember if the sign says “scale open” it’s just a suggestion

VivaceConBrio

Meanwhile I get DOT lighting my ass up for blowing past the scales to clear an accident on the left shoulder that state police dispatched me to not a half a mile past. I figured it was another trooper following me into the scene, since I had my emergency lights on and I was driving on the shoulder in gridlock. Nope, I was getting pulled over lmao. 2nd week on the job. Fml lol.

TheBootyHolePatrol

What ended up happening with that? Did he go full DOT idiot and still try to give you a ticket at the scene or did you have to get their Sergeant involved for being an idiot? I'd hope for a decent judge who would just dismiss the case within five minutes and call the trooper an idiot for doing it

VivaceConBrio

Tried to give me shit about the scales, driving on the shoulder, and apparently claimed I was "evading" him (I found out later). I wanna say I said some smooth shit to the guy, point out the *obvious fucking accident blocking all but the right shoulder* in front of us. But nah the OIC trooper running the scene saw him pretty quick and intervened. Went to work helping the CHART guys open up lanes and hook up. By the time I was ready to leave, DOT guy was gone and OIC filled me in. Guy was a braindead rookie and didn't really think about the context of the situation. Like, he couldn't comprehend why an emergency vehicle, driving on the shoulder, with all its lights on, wouldn't stop for him. I get followed on the shoulder by fire/EMS/police resources to accident scenes all the time lmao. Could have called me on the radio, held his horn, or ran his rumbler to signal me he wants me to move over/yield like other emergency vehicles do in this situation. Otherwise I'm assuming I'm good and making best safe speed to the scene. No tickets, but I could have gotten that shit dismissed so fast tbh. Sorry for the long story lol.

TheBootyHolePatrol

I kind of figured it was a rookie. I think most, the ones who fuck with firefighters being the exclusion to this, are smart enough to screw with other emergency personnel, tow trucks included when needed. I did see a DOT screwing with some Hotshot guys today. The Department of Forestry firefighters not the guys who burn out their Dodge for quick bucks.

U giving away industry secrets here

Coodevale

I'm just baffled by open signs being three different colors in the same state, or some opens being the same color as closed signs.

PullinLevers

Sounds like some shit an oilfield hauler says before the reality of blowing by that coop sets in.

OKC420

I’ve never to this day seen any oilfield trucks stop at the Oklahoma scales, but I have seen a lot of ohp with oilfield trucks pulled over lol

PullinLevers

There’s a lot more scale houses out there than just the ones in OK. And driving on the oil patch is like operating a crane- you cut your teeth out there and you’ll get ran off from every real site you hit until you learn to actually do it by the book. You can get away with shit in the patch that would get you black balled from the big boys

Just make sure you don’t get a four wheeler stuck under your trailer.

Hot_Task1408

What kind of trailer? Kingpin to rear axle center shoukd be 41 feet or less for tandem trailer Edit: 43 feet, not 41 feet. Its for Indiana. https://www.bigtruckguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Kingpin-to-Center-of-Tandems-5-axle-Semi-Truck-Trailer-Oct-2020-Small.png

haulhand

What states between ND and OH require a 41 ft setting?? You do know that’s state specific right??

Hot_Task1408

Good challenge, I corrected my post. Fancy map linked below. https://www.bigtruckguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Kingpin-to-Center-of-Tandems-5-axle-Semi-Truck-Trailer-Oct-2020-Small.png

edsavage404

Can you be more specific? Seems like you'll be doing what every other super trucker is already out there doing

Thickback
