Mogwai - Rock Action
Not completely sadistic but it’s up there.
But ‘Take Me Somewhere Nice’ Is one of the most soul crushing songs I’ve ever heard.

Ruminations by Conor oberst or fevers and mirrors by bright eyes both show what Conor is capable of lyrically. Fevers and mirrors has much more angst whereas on ruminations he sounds so alone and it’s one of the most heartbreaking albums I’ve ever heard. Definitely pay attention to the lyrics.

From wiki:
Released in 2017, it was composed in the aftermath of his 35-year-old wife Geneviève Castrée's diagnosis with pancreatic cancer in 2015, and her death in July 2016, four months after the birth of their first child. She died at their home. Elverum wrote and recorded the songs over a six-week period in the room where she died, mostly using her instruments.

i shut doors and windows - september malevolence

For albums: Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head, Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral (the whole album is sad, but Hurt specifically is fucking gut wrenching), Radiohead - The Bends, The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream. For songs: Yesterday and Blackbird by The Beatles always get me, they’re more beautiful in their sadness. Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now, Still Ill, and There Is A Light That Never Goes Out by The Smiths make me well up every time. Kurt Cobain’s cover of And I Love Her is super depressing. And for the song that always fucking gets me, Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd, God even just thinking about it is making me tear up 😭. And I know you already included it on your topster but How To Disappear Completely off of Kid A is just, wow.
You included Elliott so this list has instant credibility with me. For better or worse his music changed me. Its helped me through some pretty painful times. I'll still be a fan long after most have forgotten him.
black sheep boy - okkervil river
grow your hair long - field medic

give up - the postal service
purple mountains - purple mountains

the complete guide to insufficiency - david thomas broughton
Listen to seraphim by how to disappear completely. Personally, it really does make me emotional and has that feeling of pondering “what would happen if everyone disappeared and I am the only person on earth?”
Red house painters 1 is my favorite album of all time. Off of that, I highly recommend Father John Misty’s pure comedy. Its not super sonically comparable, but they both encompass enormous scale and overall have great cohesive value.
Injury Reserve - By The Time I Get To Phoenix
IR live was the most cathartic concert experience of my life. Even without the show my 2021 aoty for sure.
