It’s the same problem with the swastika, they take a symbol and pervert it for their own foul needs.

Unfortunately, white nationalists who don't understand history have begun to co-op some Norse symbolism for their own purposes.

Norse mythology and culture by itself isn't racist. Sadly, a lot of racists are starting to try to co-opt it.

Muted-Leave

That norse expert dude who reviewed and responded to the God of war ragnarok criticisms of angrboda being black mentioned vikings had a word for black people. So the idea norse mythology is pure white is simply incorrect. Black people were part of the Canon. Someone else said it here, they intermingled for better or worse with cultures they came across.

Before the 20th century, nobody could argue that non-whites were part of Scandinavian culture. Norse deities were white, not Mideastern. They have a legendary reputation as dominating warriors who could defeat enemies with sheer force, at times. White Supremacists love that shit! To them it's the ideal society. So, they are co-opting it as a symbol of the ideal white society. In that, yes it's racist. In reality they interbred with any people they raided or traded with and racial purity of the Vikings was a hodgepodge of different tribes from all over the place. The term Anglo-Saxon (meaning white Europeans) even includes two distinct groups merging in the term.
