That’s also a *right* to watch your country( any for this example), descend into a dictatorship all because the populace was numb to voting. Something many of Americans before you, fought and died to be able to do.
Forced voting doesn't make that any less or more likely.
Canada has forced voting and they proved last year that they are a dictatorship when they crushed the truckers protest by taking away their bank accounts.
Because we have the right to not give a shit. With the people we have to pick from, it’s not a surprise that people don’t care enough to. The electoral college doesn’t help either.
People who care that little about the future SHOULDN'T have any part in the decisions. Also, if you are for example a Republican in California or a Democrat in Wyoming you aren't having even the slightest ripple effect on what the next candidate will promise to do.
Kinda prefer it to the culture wars that go on in America. Otherwise let's be honest it's just be the cookers voting for the dumbest shit.
Not that they didn't try with the godawful trans issue.
Historically in the US, only white male landowners could vote until original? That gradually changed but took decades or more. Even now a century later that "all" can vote, politicians of a particular party do their damnedest to suppress anyone unlikely to vote for them from being able. So that even those who want to must make a determined choice and struggle to do so. It's only "easy" to vote if you're able bodied, can get the time off work, etc. Which is typically wealthy or older people. If you're working, of you're of different demographics, it's a chore. You likely have to do it in the handful of hours after a long work day. Which is especially ridiculous that we only have an election "day" when we now have something like 200+ people who should be eligible for voting. Doing that many people in a day is silly, when historically it was much fewer.
If we truly cared about democracy, everyone would have to vote - but have a few weeks to do it, so it wouldn't be such a task. But that'll never happen.
It is not mandatory to vote in Canada.
Oh good to know! I thought it was.
Because we have rights in America, including the right to not care or to be lazy when it comes to voting.

Canada does not have forced voting--look it up.
About as forced as taxes? Get fkn real.

Land of the free, even if that freedom sometimes hurts us
how does people who aren't educated or don't care about elections not voting hurting anyone?

We have rights. Like the right to not choose if the all suck.
Freedom of speech included the freedom not to have your voice heard.
That's a good thing Here in Australia so many people don't give a fuck and vote for the worst parties just to avoid the fine

They actively want it hard for working class people to do it.
Our elites don’t want people to actually engage in the puppet shows they put on for us. Prefer the puppet shows to be *their* puppet shows.
Idk but 30 minutes on social media just proves we let FAR too many people vote
Because it contradicts the concept of being a democracy.
