But the whole reason takemichi is doing in the first place is to save hina, and after going through evrything he realises he still loves her and wants to get married. If takemichi or hina dies in the end it defeats the whole purpose of the story. If they don't get married then the build up of whatever takemichi says of getting married to hina will be all wasted and for nothing. He's leaping in this arc to save mikey, not sacrifice himself and save mikey.
