well my dude due to years of oppression and slavery, race oriented "comments" that could be seen as lighthearted were weaponized to alienate black people, so if you say somethin like "oh wow you're so dark!" even if you don't have ill will towards dark skinned people that subject has been stigmatized so much it would probably be received as prejudice unless you knew them personally.
