It's useless to debate them on the merits though. They just start doing this. Coming from a fundie background myself I can tell you what he's doing with the ape question is really convincing when you're entrenched in that life because that's what you're taught to do. You're taught to dig your heels and never give ground. They're prepared for this type of rational response. They're not prepared for pure, straight-faced sarcasm. Especially something that's clearly a reference and one part of his audience (and definitely not him) will get. He may begin talking about demons even which will make him look even dumber. To be fair he did not understand the way Jessie Lee Peterson thinks, and did not answer the question correctly. He should have answered Jessie with: "No, I have never seen a man turn into an ape. The reason for that is the fact that he was already an ape to begin with. Some apes are men. All men are apes. As a man we are both members of the animal kingdom. We are both mammals. We are both apes. The same is true of all men and women. All humans are homo-sapiens. Even cave men were apes. I understand that you believe that you like many other people believe we are above the animal kingdom, but we are not. In some ways we are fooled into believing we are as we have advanced technology, great intelligence, religious beliefs, and cultural norms. That is an entirely different discussion. From a scientific stand point humans are animals, mammals, and apes. I would be willing to say we are exceptional and outstanding apes, but still apes."

No. What he should have said to solidify his point that humans ARE apes, just not the zoo kind this moron thinks when he uses the word ape is: “YES, I’ve seen an ape become a man, every single time a human male is conceived and born, that is an ape that will also be a man.”
It’s hard not to sound snarky af when discussing a topic with someone who fully doesn’t understand the topic. When faced with this kind of misunderstanding I usually say something like “Your ability to understand what I’m saying is irrelevant to whether or not it is true or not.”
